Real Royalty I was wanting to ask if you could do a documentary on Katharine of Aragon. Ever since I first started to learn about her she had become my idol and I would love to learn more about her

Real Royalty I think I might have asked this before but if you haven’t and I’ll check on YT, but could you do an expose’ of Mary, Queen of Scot’s please? There’s a lot made of Mary AND her cousin, Elizabeth I, but not much is known about Mary’s life out there about her life once at Hollyrood Castle, her half brother James, her relationship with David Rizzio, her courtship of Elizsbeth’s love Dudley that she sent to marry Mary, her REAL marriage to Darnley and MORE on the death of Darnley, her plot with Bothwell to kill Darnley and the casket letters which sealed Mary’s fate. In regards to Mary Boleyn, who was known as the Great Prostitute, apparently made out the best considering her Father pimped out both Mary and Anne for his financial and political gain. I didn’t know Mary lived out a wealthy life considering she married as you said without permission of her sister the Queen nor Anne’s Father, to a commoner, a soldier. I didn’t think you, as a woman in those times, could inherit the family fortune as it were even though Dad died disgraced. George was a scapegoat for a charge of incest IMO, just to further add charges to Anne including witchcraft she could not escape. Was George Boleyn gay as portrayed in the Tudors? I’m sure that subject as broached with David Rizzio in Reign was so taboo that I’m sure little was ever even known about it much less written accounts about it. I did enjoy your video on these 2 ladies. Mary who started out mocked and scorned for being a mistress and poor Anne who lost her head for love, it was Mary who really got the best and last laugh of them all. But in reality I wish Anne had lived to see her daughter become the first female successful reigning Monarch Elizabeth I. Mary’s decedent is the current Elizabeth, Queen of England?? Wow. The protestant church gained more ground during his son Edwards VI reign, being that Edward was brought up solely in that faith. I firmly stand by Katherine's decision to stick up for herself and her daughter.

@Memcha Laishram It's extremely unlikely. He had one illegitimate son (Henry FitzRoy) with his mistress Elizabeth Blount and it was such a big deal for him he tried to have the boy legitimised. He was so desperate for a male heir - any male heir - that it's hard to imagine he would have completely ignored "hundreds" of them if he had any.

You are right she did get the last laugh but none of her descendants ended up on the throne. I really dont understand why this documentary says so. Mary and Queen Elizabeth the Second are certainly not related. So confusing!

Mary did NOT have any children. She died childless. She doesn't have any descendants. Mary Queen of Scots was a descendant of one of Henry VIII's sisters.

I disagree. Mary followed the status quo. She let Henry use her and throw her away. If you call that outsmarting a tyrant, then I guess you must also call every other mistress smart. Survival is a guarentee if you bow your head and live your life following what men in society say. Mary wanted to survive in society so in short she got it. Anne wanted to thrive in society . She got married to guy by getting him to divorce his wife and breaking away from the Roman church. She also gave birth to one if the most celebrated queen in history. Her daughter is a queen whose reign is remembered as being golden. I would more agree with Anne having the last laugh because even if Henry didn't believe in her daughter despite disposing her and marrying another who gave him a son. Her daughter brought more glory to her family aka Henry's name than her rivals daughter (Elizabeth sister)or her other rivals son . That was his big obsession and it came from the women he beheaded. Yes, marrying the love of your life is a big deal. But Mary not only had been married before and was the king's mistress. So of course the only guy who would except her is the guy who loves her. If you mean Queen Mary of Scots, I don't think she really got the last laugh. Her later later relatives (aka king charles) gets beheaded. The last laugh belongs currently king Richard 3 whom the current queen is the relative of. I do which Elizabeth had a daughter or a son. All the children of Henry became unstable, controlling and had people with motives to kill them. Henry spent most of his life blaming women for not having son's and his harsh behavior to the women in a way offset his children behavior and their relationships with each other and other people. Their behavior which they got from their power loving father cost them ironically their power.

Correction it is safer not to get noticed and if noticed it was safer to be with child.

I watched Helena Bonham Carter play Jane Grey back in the 80s and all I could think of during her honeymoon scenes with Cary Elwes was, 'run, Jane, run.' If she and Guilford had fled England and laid low for a year or two in Germany or Holland when Ed VI died, they could never have been caught up in their parents' machinations.

He found her guilty along with the others knowing that she’s was innocent of the charges; Mind you he was her one of her biggest advocates to marry Henry. Cool... and may I say, Mary was the better sister. I always liked her more than Anne in the whole story and I think she was also smarter... I think she realised the dangers and did her own thing, at least having some peace of mind instead of living in constant tension from the political games which eventually got her sister killed.

He had even written a book about our family tree. I wanted t know more, like who his parents were, so I looked up Sir Thomas, knowing he would be easier to trace & his geneology would be the same as Nathaniel's. I saw his mother was Ann Knollys, whose name was highlighted, meaning she was of historical significance. I then saw that her mother was Catherine Carey, whose name I recognized as the daughter of Mary Boleyn.

I really think that not only did Henry knew Anne was innocent, he probably had those accusations against her fabricated himself so he could get rid of her for not having a son and because he was bored of her. Karma got him good, though. Henry died a slow and painful death from his many illnesses and not one of his male heirs survived. Even his daughters never gave him any grandchildren to continue his line. The Tudor dynasty died with Elizabeth.

Both Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn did have sons but none of them survived infancy. She has also published a series of videos based on another of her books detailing Anne's downfall and execution as well as a few about Mary Boleyn and even a couple of Tudor cooking.

Henry the 7th was the first turdor king and Elizabeth the 1st the last. I was talking about the dynasty, not the tv show

Secondly, BOTH of her children produced progeny. Her daughter Catherine had 16 children and her son, Henry Carey, also had 16 children with his wife and numerous illegitimate children. He wasn't executed though so I don't even know who you're thinking of but Henry Carey died at 70 at his house. Elizabeth I was even about to bestow a dukedom upon him when he died. You don't do that to someone who is about to be executed and die in shame. It's only Anne Boleyn who has no DIRECT descendants because Elizabeth I died childless.

Jane Seymour was a 2nd cousin to Anne and Catherine as well, but I think I remember reading somewhere that the 3 also were distant cousins to Henry. The Tudor portraits are not very accurate. All guys look the same, all ladies look the same... Also, the beauty standards were different. Back then, it was said about Henry that he was the most handsome prince in all Christendom. He was tall and athletic, so according to the age standards, he must have been considered as really good looking. He started gaining weight after the jousting accident in 1536. But I know what you mean. I'm not very found of red haired guys, nor blond guys, either :))

Also at the time he was with Anne, he had bad health, bad wound that didn't heal on his leg and it was written he smelled like a rotten corpse so bad courtiers could smell him from two rooms away! Imagine having sex with a man like that...

I rather think they would have devised some way to still blame the woman, like her womb was insufficiant, or she made sure she did not have a son by some means. Because to acknowledge that they bear the burden of proof of whether a child is male or female is to lose their absolute power over women. Before this medical fact was established, a man could never be certain that his offspring was biologically his, women understood this, and going thru the female line and considering all children born of a union as the children of the Woman's clan made more sense. No child could be declared a bastard, a woman retained her assets of land, house and goods even if the man abandoned her and the children. He could not take away her money, land or throw her out of the house, leaving her homeless and starving. A woman had a balance of power and respect owed to her, within the community, a girl was allowed sexual freedom and any child born was considered a " child of the Hearth" a clan member. Once she chose a mate however, she was to be sexually faithful to that man. If he did not treat her kindly, she could cut the tie of partnership without his consent and chose a new man, the new man would be expected to depending on the community, become a part of the new clan and accept any previous children, and because the uncles and aunts of the mother trained the children rather than the parents, this helped with preventing personal pressure of expectations or jealousy of a parent to a child. This was and is, I believe, a much healthier viewpoint and balance of power than a male dominated power structure, our society goes by today. To kill your wife or child had consequences then, both sexes before a formal binding were free to experiece sex. With a formal binding, and building a foundation for a solid family meant, both parties were faithful to each other, would work out issues that came up, love and protect- not cottonball a child and work as a family unit within a bigger family unit or clan -- all parties working towards the aim of providing food, shelter, peaceful transactions within and outside of the community. Raise children that could look after themselves and have moral precepts and cultural understanding of their place in the world. To transmit ideas, morality, customs, abilities to succeed and carry on into the future. Children may have had a shorter -what we would consider as a childhood, and would have need to learn a lot of things much faster in order to survive. But they did survive, thrive raise a new generation and pass their knowlege on. How much midwife knowledge and techniques were torn away by a male dominated power base., that denied that a woman had both a Soul and Intellect, and was just a possession to be used, abused and destroyed with a Man's whim. How long have we Women been fighting for Our Rights as Human Beings? Humans have this terrible ability to justify any behavior if it is to their own personal benefit. That is our Achilles Heel.

There is evidence that Cromwell did engineer this with Anne's other enemies. I do agree with you that there is misguided information on the Tudors but there is a lot to see that Cromwell actually did have a lot to do with it.

@@colleta2400 This is why I personally believe Cromwell did engineer most of it. Chapyuis made it clear that is Cromwell, not the King, who was responsible for everything. He told his master that the minister "he's blamed and brought about the whole affair". First of all, he had motive. It was clear as late in April that Anne still had influence with the King when Henry slapped Cromwell down regarding trying to pursue an Imperial alliance instead of French as we all know Anne has always favored. Anne was upset about the monasteries and collecting the funds - Anne didn't want them to be destroyed in the manner they were doing because she very much realized the people still needed them particularly the poor. She had a sermon preached basically calling Cromwell out on giving the King bad advice. Shortly after this, Cromwell disappears for a week and comes back and we all know what happened from there. He had a meeting with the King even though there is no written documentation of what was actually said but I think it's safe to assume he most certainly had some mind of plan after he took off for a week. All of the men implicated in the scandal were troublesome opponents. William Brereton was one of the clearest indications. He dominated the monasteries in Cheshire and blocked Cromwell's attempts of reform. Who may have encouraged lawlessness but at the very least covered it up where he was steward. Mark Smeaton was taken to Cromwells residence in Stepney alone and "confessed" and we all know he was most likely tortured - as he wasnt a noble by birth and was of lowly origin versus the others. Thomas wyatt and Sir Richard Page - Cromwell made it his business to acquit them - and the fact that both if these men escaped with their head just shows to what extent he actually dictated it all. He placed spies in her company at the Tower and had the constable report every word she said which is part of the most damning evidence against her that was twisted and embellished. There is even a letter from Anne found on Cromwells desk professing her innocence that likely never made it Henry's person - though that isnt sure or not. Along with all the letters from the constable reporting everything she did and said to HIM. He aligned himself with the Seymour's which were a more conservative party yet it shows how pragmatic and desperate he was to rid himself of Anne. He most likely did have spies in her household and bribed them prior to this whom also twisted and embellished incidents words and the like. Though that cannot be proved without a doubt but it is widely believed by all that he did. Sorry for the long response. I just feel that this is evidence to some degree...

Mary definitely did have the last laugh in this situation. Where she was overshadowed and dismissed, she actually outlived her siblings, married for love and lived a comfortable life until she died

Henry was a monster egotist. Even though Henry claimed that Anne was an adulteress, and even though he bastardized Elizabeth (and her half-sister Mary), he kept them in the line of succession because they were his daughters and he couldn't bear the thought of the crown passing out of his bloodline (as of course it did). It wasn't just the political difficulty of having a female succession that drove Henry to maneuver himself out of his marriages. The lack of offspring - especially male offspring - reflected badly on the king and highlighted his virility deficit. Henry didn't want to be thought less of a man, so he undid his marriages when they appeared to be fruitless.

I just wrote this in a previous comment but I think more simple minded people love to view shocking history like they do movies: Gotta have heroes and villains and it must entertain with lots of drama 😄. Rather than researching and getting to know the real man, it's easier to just project onto Henry VIII any behavior indicative of a villain. Sadly if they started reading books (by historians not just Philippa Gregory) they'd learn that the real story is more rich, fascinating, and full of true life drama just as it is.
