Was Batman Arkham City As Good As I Remember? 

Another thing in City I find interesting along with Asylum is the tapes you can acquire from completing the side objectives Riddler gives you. The stuff Strange did to the inmates of Arkham City is just as gritty and enthralling as Asylum in my opinion. I especially love the tapes with Two-Face, and the tests he gives him. Plus, I love how much of the rest of the game is set up in the opening sequence. Deadshot is in the line of prisoners you have to go through as Bruce Wayne. "Bruce Wayne? You're on my list... bang." Hush (the serial killer) is in the church at the beginning, laying on a table with bandages on his face, clutching a box that he won't allow anyone to open. There's so much there for people who are willing to delve into it and.. it's incredible to me

I really like these retrospectives, but they don't have enough views! Especially the Arkham Origins retrospective. Good job!

Damn man I actually forgot how sick City was. It's definitely deserving of people saying it's the best in the series. I honestly never played the Harley Quinn DLC though, I have to check that out, it looks so good. Great video as always dude

I love Arkham city it's my second favorite Arkham game it has a fantastic story, writing, gameplay, music, side missions, characters, graphics, and Harley quinns revenge I have nothing wrong with the game

1. I love Catwoman in this game. Much better than the princess Peach of Arkham Knight. 2. Notice how the Harley Quinn DLC further solidifies the Joker's death. They leave no room for interpretation. They want you to know that the Joker is actually dead and he's not coming back.

Definitely the best of the series

I love city, the only thing I wish was better was the traversal mechanics. That's the one thing I gotta give credit to that Arkham Knight did it right, after flying around the city as smoothly as you do in Arkham Knight it's hard to go back to how you get around in city. But that in no way takes away from his good the game is. I was wondering if you could do a retrospective review on batman origins because I just found myself going back and playing it again and suprisingly found myself loving it so much more then I did when I played it before. I was blown away with the story and character design and detective modes improving, boss fights were amazing, voice acting, it all was suprisingly amazing. And I feel like it gets over looked alot.

The massive improvement from Asylum is probably why I love this game so much, it took what made Asylum great and expanded on it.

I love how in the ending batman carries the jokers dead body in a respectful manor, shows that even though batman tries to stop the joker at all cost, he still has some degree of respect or empathy for the man.. Loved the video by the way !

I recently replayed it, and found it surprising how much I missed Arkham Knight while playing this. Enemies seem to either turn around too fast, have too good vision, or just keep destroying my damn vantage points. Also, losing my combo cause I punched the air while the thug was on the ground sucks. Another thing I got used to in AK was that if you're doing a ground takedown, you can still counter. That's an amazing QoL not present in any other game and actually makes ground takedowns a viable option. I don't think this is a deliberate difficulty, but rather a shortcoming of the game's mechanics. For all the hate people give Arkham Knight's batmobile, no one seems to appreciate how it has the most perfect version of Batman combat. Maybe you ought to do a Return to Arkham sort of playthrough of the games in reverse order eh, MayorHairBear? Might give insight on the tiny changes that improved the games but are so subtly done that you only notice it when you miss them in previous games.

It's been a while since I last played Asylum and City so I don't know if I'd still feel this way if I played them again, but Arkham City improves on Asylum and then some. Asylum is still great, but City improves everything that was lacking in Asylum, fine-tunes everything else, and gives us so much more to do. Maybe the amount of content in City is a little bit overwhelming (looking at you, Riddler) but when the gameplay is so fun and the story is so enjoyable, I didn't mind it that much.

Some of the greatest fun in games I've ever had has been completing those predator challenge maps on City and Knight as all the different characters. Also, that boss fight with Mr. Freeze in City? Fucking amazing game design.

One thing I loved about the DLC is how you really could tell how much Joker's death messed Batman up. In the main game he sounds, well, invested in what he's doing. In the DLC he sounds completely depressed. There's no emotion in his voice. It's subtle, but brilliant.

I realised something: Some of Joker’s henchmen had also TITAN in them in Arkham Asylum. Did they also had the same sickness as Joker or is just Joker?

arkham city is one of my all time favorite games man flat out.

Gameplay is way more immersive in new game plus mode where the Spidey sense is gone. Now you have to actually read the enemies animations which is so satisfying when you clear a room perfectly after screwing up beforehand.

Really enjoyed this video. The Mad Hatter sidequest is just incredibly memorable and the boss battles almost put this above Asylum for me, almost. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on the controversial Origins.

Hugo Strange was wasted in this game. The trailers and his initial threat were so appealing to me. The Joker and cure stuff seemed like a side quest since Protocol 10 was Batman's main reason for being there.

I hated what they did to Batman's face in Return to Arkham Asylum and I didn't like the fact that the Catwoman dlc was forced into the main story of this one, especially when I wanted to get right into 100% completion in the endgame, only to find out there was more Catwoman stuff (I never played the dlc back in the day with the original copy)

Love this game. But what puts this game lower than Arkham Origins to me is the Catwoman DLC. It makes me sigh every time a chapter comes up. It fills like filler to me.

How are Grundy, Clayface, or Ra's boss fights any different than Joker's boss fight at the end of asylum? Jump around until you can use the one and only gadget that works three times. I can't rank this game any higher than third, and only just barely as it introduces the two best gadgets, and the best boss fight in the franchise.

I still think Arkham origins is the best in the series and Hollywood seems to agree as Ben Affleck and Matt Reeves Batman is both based on Arkham origins, that tells you a lot.

I personally believe Arkham city has the weakest story. Protocol 10 was underwhelming, didnt like robin had a short appearance in the man story then Batman sending him away and not letting him come back to help for really no reason didn’t make sense to me. the main story felt like a chore taking down penguin,find rah al Gul, fight mr freeze, stop protocol 10 then fight clay face then Batman drink the cure. Joker dying was the best part about the story. Otherwise Arkham city story is A bit of a wild goose chase.(as a another RU-vidr so rightful put it & I agree). I didn’t even bother with the side mission because the man story burnt 🥵 me out. Gameplay wise Arkham city is second only to Arkham knight. Gameplay is great enough said. Overall Arkham city story is weak but the gameplay is great. Not my favorite Arkham game but still a very good one.

Man oh man, your Reddit post was the third or fourth one today that heaped so much undeserved praise on the most relatively disappointing video game sequel since God of War 2. It expanded the core gameplay from AA well in most ways. However, the implementation of armored enemies in combat and predator was a goofy and artificial way to try to make players use automatic/loud takedowns. The titans of Arkham Asylum were simple yet viscerally satisfying enemies to fight. But in AC you just perma-stun them and mash square while Batman's head and shoulders embarrassingly clip into him. Not all proper boss fights were winners, either. Grundy was a pseudo boss fight puzzle reminiscent of the lamest parts of God of War 2, and the actual one-on-one part of the fight with Ra's was a wholly inferior version of the battle with Poison Ivy in AA. By far the shortest campaign of the four main games. Everything involving Catwoman was mediocre at best and came in strange intervals. But that absolutely horrendous story is what cripples it. The writing is like sub-par fan-fiction (if I ever read fan-fiction). Overtly nonsensical plot holes, laughably contrived events and cringe-inducingly juvenile dialogue throughout. This is the norm, not the exception. It's thematically bankrupt as it pretends to be epic and profound with (admittedly) stirring music. Look, every Arkham game has some contrivances, but they're nowhere near as bad nor as widespread as in AC. Just about every aspect of the main story can be meticulously pulled apart. It's not in any way comparable to Dini's fantastic contributions to Batman: The Animated Series and its feature films. This is not the Mask of the Phantasm of gaming. I have to say that some of the side missions like Zsasz's phone calls were actually much, much better written. I will say that the challenge mode would've been easily the best of the series, but the absolutely scummy practice of carving out DLC character and challenge maps that could've been on the disc on day one, then selling them back to gamers. Each of the four main Arkham games are guilty of this to some degree, but City is absolutely the worst offender. To top it all off, we had to stare at a purple-caped Batman for the entire game the first time through (there is a cheat code to use alternate skins, but that wasn't known until months after the game released). As a game, I definitely prefer Arkham City over Arkham Origins. But the Arkham City I played is nowhere near deserving the praise it gets. I honestly thought I had a spoof copy of the game after the first time I played it.
