Batman Arkham Origins seems to be the forgotten game in this series. It's not developed by Rocksteady, nor is it in any of the Arkham Collections. But, does that mean Batman Arkham Origins isn't worth your time? No. It is actually a quality title and I'm going in-depth as to why that is going over the main game and it's story, the games side content and the DLC Cold, Cold Heart. I couldn't help but laugh at how easily Electrocutioner was defeated. He was just all talk but was actually no threat to Batman. He was basically a joke and that was the point of him.

In all honesty, I find Origins just as good as City. I absolutely love this game and the voice performances are just as good as the Rocksteady games. There are a few glitches and just before the Firefly battle, I couldn't grapple on that billboard, but a reset easily fixed that. I love the story to this game. In fact, I think it has the best story of the series. I love the relationship between Batman and Gordon, how they are both still very wary of one another and I love how Alfred is so concerned with Bruce. It all just works for me. It's just a criminally under-rated game, in my opinion and it seems to me that the only reason a lot of people shit on it, is because Rocksteady and the original voice cast weren't involved. Look past this and you have a fantastic gaming experience.

The biggest downside to this game was the traversal, it was super sluggish and doing missions where u had to hop between each side of the bridge was super time consuming even though their was fast travel i couldnt imagine this game without it

Story-wise, Asylum just edges it out by virtue of being so simple that it's hard to fuck up. Origins tries to tell the more engaging story, tho, so it's a toss up between perfecting something mundane and making an attempt at something greater.

What I liked: - Batman looks badass (Although, it almost seems like everything went backwards in terms of armor. Usually with upgrades, suits look more and more armored, badass and advanced but I always saw this series from Batman going from tactical armor to spandex to tactical armor again in Arkham Knight. Just a nitpick.) - The story makes sense and everything clicked into place. - Christmas setting for the win. - Boss battles. - Batman actually does detective work. What I didn't like: - It is kind of a copy of Arkham City in terms of gameplay and the gadgets are all the same. - No real references to Catwoman to my knowledge. - Performance on launch. That's... Really about it. It's one of my favorite Batman games out there.

Well of course the armor design went backwards in this game, these are basically year two versions. The "spandex" from the later games is actually more advanced with layers underneath than what we see here, and the armored batsuit in Knight was a special tactical version with brand new tech in it.

3Rayfire Ye I concur, this is one of the earliest Batsuits. Later advancements are not in fact just cloth, as you can see the armor underneath as the story process and the suit takes damage

I think you lose a lot of the intrigue with the Anarky mission if you don't listen to all his dialogue especially after you apprehend him. That may be why you found it boring because I quite enjoyed it as it made me question why Batman sees himself as a one man judge and jury; deciding the fates of criminals and even other vigilantes like himself.

That may be a good point actually but I do remember listening to a lot of his dialogue. I found it boring more so because of the repetition of the side mission I think... it's been a little bit since I made this video 😂

This game is so good, Firefly is one of my favorite Batman villains and this is one of his best interpretations. The scenes with Alfred and Bruce are fantastic, and even though I’m annoyed with the twist, the Joker is great in the game and interacts fun with Batman.

The Arkham series is all about the Batman/Joker relationship, when you see the B:AC's ending you complete understand this thing (Talia dies and Batman don't gave a shit, Joker dies and Batman carry him on his arms). With this motif on the series, we "needed" see the very beginning of this relationship after B:AC to reach to the very ending of that same in B:AK. So, with this in mind, the B:AO did the job right, working as a bridge on that series' motif, at least for me. In B:AO Batman is in Joker's mind and in B:AK Joker is the one inside the Batman's mind. Other point I like about the B:AO is the fact i've played this game on PS3, what make me have a completed trilogy on that console.

It definitely feels like it rounds out the Joker relationship for the previous generation and it is such a fascinating relationship that I believe Origins does a great job with setting up. Origins does a lot right in terms of story for me I really enjoyed it!

Great video, I speak for everyone who loves origins that it needs more love! I understand it’s valid criticism but it’s my personal favorite, with it’s story, character with batman and Alfred’s relationship, the birth of joker’s obsession with batman, bane being ripped from the comics, the beginning of Batman’s partnership with Gordon and gameplay it’s always been a great experience to play just like asylum & city. And I love that it takes place during Christmas Eve, it’s definitely an awesome Christmas batman game. Also I’d like to point out, origins doesn’t take place 5 years before asylum, sure WB Montreal said it was before it came out but even they must’ve realized that didn’t make any sense, so it’s several or more years before asylum.

Glad you enjoyed the video mate! I still maintain this game isn't my personal favourite, but, by no means does that mean it isn't a fantastic game because the series is just an incredible one. But, Origins does get a lot of grief that I just don't think it deserves and I'm glad I went back and replayed it to realise it :) In terms of when the game is set, I believe it was said in game and in interviews that it was 5 years or so. It could be more, or less, either way it is definitely a great origin story :)

Senior producer Ben Mattes said in an interview that Old Gotham is suppose to be the city which shows its early stages before it becomes the prison: Arkham City. Hence why similar landmarks can be seen: Wonder tower, The Steel Mill, Solomon Courthouse, the Train Station which will later be known as the "Old GCPD Building" by the time of Arkham City's events. And many more that come and go due to the passing of time. You can even see Arkham Asylum out in the distance when in the Amusement Mile before Quincy Sharp reopens it! This is something that many people failed to capture and bitched about when this awesome game was first released. Saying that the world is not innovative enough or was "copy and paste"

What I liked about origins: -Batman’s personality -Crime Scene Investigations -Bane -Upgrade System -Shock Gloves -Development of relationships What I disliked about origins: -Bugs -Poor Optimization -How Black Mask was wasted -Joker being shoehorned into the story -The Dark Knight System -Arkham City Rip-Offs (ie glue grenade/freeze blast) -Overly cartoony proportions/graphics -Lack of important characters in the series (ie Robin)

I prefer this game to City. I like this story more because city’s is short, strange is underused and when he is poisoned there’s no sense of rush to do the story because when you’re poisoned, you can go on your merry way and nothing happens to batman. They shoo horned in every villain they could. Two face was also underused and cat woman episodes were so pointless. And Solomon Grundy with penguin was so pointless. All strange does is threaten you at the beginning and if you try to stop him, he doesn’t reveal your identity. The reveal of Ra's being the master is weak. Why couldn’t they have made Hugo the man with the brains? These are just some problems I have with city and why I prefer Origins.

I do think it is all personal preference, obviously I enjoyed my time with City a bit more than Origins but I do see your points against City. Especially in regards to Strange and Ra's. But, the same can be said for Origins in regards to the under use of Black Mask. I enjoy the entire series (except for the portable game xD) but I have my issues with each one. I hope you enjoyed the video though, and I appreciate the comment mate!

I completely agree with all your points about AC. Among three games I played (AA, AC and AO) I think City has the most polished gameplay but when it comes to story and characters, I prefer Origins to City in every way. The fact that the story becomes all about Batmam searching for the cure very early on while the Protocol 10 story all but disappears from the story until endgame stage is definitely one of my biggest issues. And I so agree about City being overstuffed with villains! I honestly don't think Ra's Al Ghul needed to be part of that game. His inclusion seemed forced to me, just for the sake of him being one of Batman's biggest foes.

I love this game and feel the cold christmas theme fits in perfectly in batman's universe just like a lot of the animated series episodes, the story is also awesome, hope they remaster this game.

The only thing i would say could have been modified for it to have been better is the ability for batman to graple to higher buildings and locations since this feels fairly limited.

This is my favorite game from the series. Ever since I played it for the first time three years ago, I have made it a yearly tradition to play this game every year since Christmas time. I have it on Wii U, PS3 and Xbox 360. I really just enjoy everything about this game. The opening scene with Bruce walking into the Batcave is the best opening scene in the series. I mean, that is such a Batman moment.

what i liked: cooler gadgets aside from the concussion grenade. fast silent takedown. joker finally doesn't feel like the voice actor is holding back too much. now for the negatives: joker took over the game for the third time in a row, most bosses are just ripoffs of better fights from previous games, most side quests had really disappointing conclusions.

First time playing the Arkham series and this is the first one I'm playing. From my perspective, starting with Origins and going to Asylum then City is the best path for those who haven't played it yet. Good story and great gameplay IMHO.

MayorHairBear What I liked about the Origins DLC is the premise of Freeze. He's my favourite Batman villain and the DLC was basically an adaptation of my favourite episode from the TAS. And the boss fight against him added a unique twist where you actually had to save him at the end. Harley Quinn just never did it for me in the arkham games. But I did like that I could play as Robin for once.

It was an awesome dynamic between Freeze and Batman in Origins because Freeze has no real interest in Batman but the gameplay was a bit too go here come back leave for me. Don't get me wrong though, the DLC for this series is good fun

I think Arkham Origins is so forgotten about because it's inevitably compared to Asylum and City. If you look at Origins as a follow-up to City, of course it'll be a letdown. I remember enjoying Origins when I first played it, but I always look back on the first teo games more fondly. I've also never really liked Origins' story; it has too many elements (the assassins, Joker's origins, Bruce's relationship with Alfred, etc.) and doesn't focus on any of them nearly enough. The assassin plot especially was disappointing, because most of them are really underdeveloped (at least in the context of Origins). Still, I do think Origins is still a competent entry in the series and the base gameplay is still fun. Can't wait to see what you have to say on Blackgate and Arkham Knight, since I've never actually played them!

100% agree, if you want Origins to be in the same league as Asylum and City this will disappoint. But, to me it is still really good just no masterpiece. I also think the assassins needed more work and the story can feel rushed at times but I enjoyed it this time round, more than I originally did and really Origins is just more Batman and I dig it. I'm really excited to play the 2 remaining games in the series because it has either been a while with Blackgate or from memory... just wasn't a good game with Arkham Knight. I don’t think that anyone else ever mentioned this, but I do notice that Batman’s animations appears to be less brutal when fighting against police officers (but not by much). I notice it most with the combo takedown where with most thugs he’d break their ankles, break their wrists or slam shields into their necks, but when fighting Police he just simply slams them into the ground without permanently breaking anything.

Man, I had the same glitchy fight thing you had with deadshot happen to me as well, twice actually, once with killer croc and once with firefly, it's like the game got stuck in combat and i couldn't fight. Great video though, man. This game's story was great imo, but the game play was just so..lame at parts. I loved the angry young batman and his coming to terms with alfred, joker and gordon and just how important these relationships are. It was a fascinating play through, I feel like the game play could of been polished some and been a tad less cookie cutter though. I've never played blackgate so I'm looking forward to that video from ya, cheers buddy.

Origins IS in the same league as Asylum or City. People can not get over the fact it was not developed by Rocksteady and that they changed the art style from that authenthic gothic BTAS look into a more modern one, alongside other smaller things you mentioned into the review.

Great video and analysis! This game needs more attention. What is your opinion on Gotham City in Origins? I really enjoyed the visually dark and noir inspired take of Gotham City. The snow everywhere only added to that. Also will you be doing an analysis on Arkham Knight in the future?

Origins was the second game I played in the entire series. Back in the early 2010's, I was still too young and didn't knew how to properly download heavy games like this or Asylum into my computer. I barely played Asylum because a friend had a Ps3 back then, I managed to get a "copy" of Origins for PC, I was 12 at the time, and I played the heck out of it. Then I ended up playing Knight on my Ps4 in 2016 and lastly, City in it's Return to Arkham version. What I'm trying to say is; Origins has a special place in my heart, because it was the first game in the Arkham Quadrilogy that I properly played from start to end, and even today I remember it with love and nostalgia, can't believe I'll soon be 22 this year... it's been an entire decade since this game came out. Some people hate it, just like Knight, but others like me truly consider it a beautiful part of their childhood, or early teenhood.

When they announced the arkham collection I was disappointed that origins wasn't gonna be in it coz it's not a complete arkham collection without origins coz knight references origins loads and unless you have played the game you won't get most references

Ever since this game came out I've been meaning to eventually get round to checking it out considering it's the only Arkham game I've haven't played. From what I've seen it seems like alright game, certainly not bad enough to be forgotten by Rocksteady and WB Games and not remaster it.

That is really my issue with it. Maybe compared to other games in the series it isn't a standout, but on its own is a game that is a good time. I don't see why they would act like the game never happened.

I've always loved this game. Something I think everyone overlooks about it is the character designs. Batman, Firefly, Bane and ESPECIALLY Deathstroke look the best in these games than they ever have outside of the comics.

I absolutely love this game. Since it's only available on PS now and I'm not down with the streaming on the PS5, so I picked it up for Wii U. Even though I have the pro controller, big mistake since the Mr Freeze DLC can't be purchased. There is things on the Nintendo store still like suits and challenges for for like a dollar a pop which is awesome. But I would love to have a remaster for the PS5. And have everything into one package. I'm extremely surprised that this hasn't happened yet.

A year late, but wow the opinion of cops sure has changed. Maybe that'll turn this game into an underrated classic (which it is) I read a tweet that gave a really interesting idea for a new twist on the Batman origin. "What if Joe Chill was a cop?" Bruce's parents are killed by "officer" Joe Chill who gets off scot-free. Bruce tries to say Joe killed them, but the police label him as confused/in-shock.

My most played Arkham title, next is city and asylum. Knight still has severe performance issues on pc, which is I never played it again after completing. Arkham Origins feels a lot like The Batman (2022), Batman is a bit hot headed, he makes mistakes and his relationship with the Gotham PD is shaky at best. Arkham Origins feels the perfect origin story not only for Batman, but also the Joker, as their 'relationship' begins here in AO. The boss fights are impressive. This game is so underrated. I think the reason why it's not included in Arkham collections is because the collection just includes the trilogy: Asylum, City, and Knight. Origins isn't a sequel, but a prequel. But I still love the game just as much as the others. It's one of my favorite games. It has my favorite Bat suit ever. The atmosphere of the game feels just as grounded as the Nolanverse or the Reeveverse. I wonder if the game will get a remastered version in the future.

This is my second favorite Batman game next to Arkham City. I think the cut scenes are the best in the whole series and the music score is easily the best too. I love how they had the detective stuff in it . Fast travel was great and it lacked in the last one.

Its incredible how good the Arkham Series is. Shure Origins and Knight have its flaws, but they are still really good games! I am enjoying right now the Dead Space Series, but the next playsession is reserved for Batman!

This game for me is the Second best, close to city. Is the only game that you can go to the Batcave, punch corrupt cops. This game has the best Boss fights of the franchise, best DLC ( Cold Heart), and the addition of new cool enemies, like venon thugs, the martial artist and etc. Oh, and have the best cuts scenes too.

Arkham Origins is my Favorite game in the Series and Favorite game of all time. I’ve played it at least 20 Times since I got it from Walmart in 2016. I love pretty much everything about it, the Story, The Gameplay, The Music, The Christmas Aesthetic especially. This game means so much to me, one of my favorite things to do is play it during the Christmas Season.

The game is great but what I don't liked it is the way they give us all the gadgets and skills from the previous games even knowing that this game is a prequel for the first Arkham game. I mean, take the Grapnel boost as example: this upgrade was given to us in Arkham City and Lucius Fox stated it that it still was a "prototype". Now, in Origins, I had this upgrade from the beggining of the game? They should remove all gadgets from previous games and created new ones but made by the technology of a young batman

There are some huge problems for me. Like, people say this game has the best boss fights. Even though most of them are just copy and paste. The dead shot boss is just Arkham City Two-Face fight. Killer Croc in this game is just weaker Bane. Etc, etc Also, goody stuff like the 2 face thugs jumping out of the helicopter to help Killer Croc, looked too silly.

@@MayorHairBear You have to remember that Montreal had to work with what Rocksteady gave them. They didn't have that much creative freedom when making this game.

@@nexusshark 100% the game was stuck in a Rocksteady world so you don't have a lot of leeway but it is still something we the player experienced. In terms of DLC, I think the gameplay just wasn't there for me in this one and I loved seeing how Jokers Death impacted Harley Quinn and Batman in City.

I actually thought the dead shot boss fight much better than the two face one, which was basically the Harley Quinn boss fight in Harley Quinn revenge. I agree that copperhead was a copy of prior games, but I thought it was still fun. The death stroke, firefly and bane boss flights, however, were really stand out moments that I thought were very unique. I don’t think origins is the best game in the series, but I thought it was far more enjoyable than Arkham knight.

The multiplayer still works on PS3 you just need to wait 15 minutes after the error 3 message to get in. It also works fine on pc too (for pc you need to remove one word from one of the games files and it will work) but not anymore on Xbox

I like the improvements, but it feels like a sacrifice in continuity.. like if you could recreate crime scenes years before Asylum.. why not use them in Asylum and City? I understand the developers get kinda stuck with the "bigger and better" concept that gamers always want, but it feels wrong for me in that sense

It was always going to have an issue of "Why didn't Batman do this in said game?" when trying to innovate but make a game set before the others. It's something I sort of just accepted, but it would have been a lot cooler if they managed to innovate and make the game feel like it truly is the early years of Batman's career

While this game does have some noticeable flaws, story wise I thought this was an absolute blast, all the performances were really good, and it was really cool to see some younger takes on the characters, Batman is more brash, cold and impulsive, joker is more wild and unpredictable etc etc, gameplay wise it's basically city point 5, and city's gameplay is pretty stellar so it's a pretty good time, although I do understand how a person looking for a bigger leap would be disappointed, and I did feel some of the side content is a little boring sometimes when compared to cities side missions, still an absolutely top notch game though and definitely not talked about enough.

This game is indeed underrated. Idk why was it panned at release that much, I liked it back then too. I think it'll be like the SW prequels. More and more liked as time goes on. People will start appreciate it more. What I most liked in it, are those shots of Batman as he's perched up on some building, and he's completely in shadow, just his eyes "glowing". Really reminded me of the animated series. Gave me that terrifying Batman feel.

This is my favourite Arkham game, to be honest. My pc can't run Knight (Which was overly heavy on the vehicle stuff), and the over Arkham games feel too small, or limiting in travel? Origins feels free, especially compared to City and Asylum

Funny thing about arkham origins is the biggest complaint is its too much like arkham city yet most people think arkham city is the best arkham game so i don't get the hate for origins. I enjoyed it myself and actually liked the story more than city and like both games pretty equally, it was interesting to see a younger batman just getting started and this game had some good boss fights. I feel like arkham city is overrated and arkham origins is underrated.

I honestly really like Origins. I would say, I like it a lot more than Arkham Knight unfortunately. I love fighting the martial artists and the story to me is quite interesting, not to mention the awesome Deathstroke boss fight which I hoped to inspire the bosses in Arkham Knight...boy was I wrong.

Batman origins was my favorite game I was must play on 360 and I enjoy playing it over and over I mean it had the best story and boss fight then City , aslyam and knight I play the mobile version that came out and it what got me interested in the Arkham games and I still waiting for Gotham knight to realese so I start playing it bc I know it supposed be coming out in 2022 so I know I being playing it
