I have a early 2004 F-250 bought new. I did have some of the original issues,oil cooler,egr etc. but that was at about 100k. Have had other normal wear and tear, replaced all injectors at 200k etc. I never put a tune on it and have only done a 4in turbo back exhaust, it sounds awesome. Use to be a daily driver but not so much anymore, I want to hang on to the old girl as long as I can, mostly for towing my travel trailer now. As others have said,strict maintence schedule, use motorcraft parts,filters.

@@austinsautos1919 a lot of guys came out of 7.3’s into 6.0’s and didn’t keep up on maintenance either. Ford dealerships helped with the bad reputation too, if they see a cylinder contribution code they think it’s a down cylinder when in reality it’s just an injector. So guys were getting whole engines replaced when all they needed was a $150 injector. I had a lifter go out in my 6 liter because the previous owner rarely changed the oil like an idiot

Not sure what you mean by fully bulletproof for. People use that term all the time without knowing what it means… what exact parts of this truck are bulletproof do. Cause if it’s not the oil cooler and EGR, it’s not bulletproof for sure.

The 6.0 is actually a very good engine. Easy to work on. Well supported by the aftermarket. And much cheaper for repairs compared to the 7.3, 6.4 and 6.7. Want instant gratification, buy a couple bottles of Rev X stiction solver from Amazon. You will be amazed. Also, only run the Ford gold antifreeze. Anything else will eat water pumps, gaskets and cause EGR failure.

Go to a different shop, from the invoice I can tell they're trying to extract as much money from you as possible. If you had blown headgaskets, you would overpressure the system and coolant would spill out of your degas bottle....it's fairly hard to miss. Just an FYI, I just paid $215.00 per injector for an OEM motorcraft set.

I’d be careful with cheap injectors. The diesel motor runs on compression only not spark plugs so they have much higher compression. Thus the injections run WAY more psi to work then gas. Like way more. And a cheap injector failing can stick open and melt a piston which means new motor probably.

Welcome new 6.0 psd owner! watch them deltas!!! if you were 2 gallons low on coolant most likely egr cooler is toast, when thats fucked off good bye oil cooler, and maybe headgaskets next studded or not, no more then 10 degree diff from oil and coolant temps, if they are exact then you got a bad sensor and pcm is guessing off other sensor, gauges on dash only tell you you have a problem after its to late, stay away from those cheap ass ebay 100 dollar injectors, there are a few decent places that sell them but if your only doing one just go ford oem, if you like that whistle from that lil 05' turbo find a good stock 03' or aftermarket 10 blade turbski, those can tunes that are preloaded are dogshit, find a custom tuner online that can upload onto the sct, i can write my own including ficm but i prefer just to use josh from powerstrokecustoms its like 150 for 3, or 75 for 1,'' good luck!!!'' hope your a fast learner you poor bastard lol

Something you may need to do is if you have emissions replace EGR and or block and the oil cooler because you will be in thats area to fix leak and injector and cost is worth the effort off but injectors form ford w/2year warranty $235.71 each in the Phinox AZ area so $350 for one they are high Mid tou i replaced all 8 and all the high psi oil tubs for $2400 all through ford parts department

Diesels run a ton of boost 25psi ++ and the newer type of diesel fuel is hard on the gaskets anyway and they are going to have a few little leaks especially after the 200,000 mi markif anything I might would have it looked at by a power stroke specialist. I would definitely do the oil cooler if your engine oil and coolant temps are spread out more than 15 degrees. At that point, flushing the coolant is needed anyway, so might as well replace thermostat if its leaking. You could try adding a bottle of archoil 9100 to your next oil change to help with the injector or just keep driving it. Lots of people drive around with sticking or worn injectors. The oil is from the cac boots, specifically the (hot side) or passenger side boots. The ones you show in your video are leaking. Replace those and you will be good to go. As for the front main seal that could be a bigger issue. History on these trucks is important if you can find anything more about yours. Three people to look up if you want to keep this truck. Bill Hewitt at Powerstrokehelp.com he will give you simple advice like replacing the cap on the degas bottle. If that cheap cap is not holding the 16psi of pressure your 6.0 can overheat the coolant and blow the seals on your truck. I don’t know if that is the case with yours but something to think about. Also this “shop” that did the work do they know 6.0s? If you overfill the coolant reservoir it can cause a lot of excess coolant to be released when the truck is up to temp. Two more names for you to look up. 6.0 bros channel and Dieseltech Ron. All great resources for you to find out all the questions you might have. As for the 6.0 Powerstroke itself. It can be an awesome platform. There are things that were not good on the 6.0 but due to advancements with technology and information that we have on these trucks they have a great bottom end and their weak point is the heads. Remove the EGR if it is still on your truck. As for cost of operating a 6.0 is cheaper in the long run than the new diesels on the road today. They cost a fortune and the emission controls are a nightmare. No one wants to talk about it with the new trucks but they are a nightmare. A 90k truck going into limp mode because your truck failed the regen cycle. Stick with the 6.0. It is a solid platform with a lot of support behind it. Your truck looks to be a solid work truck. These trucks like clean oil and get a coolant filter kit on it. Blue spring kit as well. Help with saving injectors. Also like the gentleman Trevor said don’t buy cheaper injectors. Dieseltech Ron talks about injectors. Stick with Ford or high quality names. Also if you are having injectors failing... before you do anything run Archoil through the fuel system. It can save you big money. I use it every fill up. The diesel fuel doesn’t have enough lubricants like it use to and that causes issues in these HUEI systems. I love my 6.0 mostly because I can work on it if I need to but it has been extremely good to me. All diesel trucks have faults. Luckily for you there are a lot of people who have seen and done it so you can don’t have to figure it out on the side of the road. Good luck!

I have a 06 6.0. The 6.0 is the most underrated diesel, if you try and nuke the truck then you run into problems. Mine is a unit I don’t have head studs and I have a duck tune on it and it runs perfect. They only got a bad rap because people treated them like the 7.3 and dogged them and then they ran into issues. Majority of 6.0’s don’t have this problems that are known to occur

Tbh man 7k is alot for what they said they was gonna do. The 6.0 is a good engine once a little work is done PROPERLY. I think it would be wise to take it to bulletproof diesel or Powerstrokehelp. You can look both companies up on RU-vid and are the best 6.0 powerstroke specialist. The price for that truck wasn't bad and putting some money into it would only increase the value and give you a better more reliable diesel.

Need new boots to fix leak then the common things motorcraft injecters are about 300 list but you can buy Warren diesel ones and they are just as good

That shop is ridiculous. Power wash the engine, diesels leak a little. Drive it, don't fix things that aren't broken. I work on nothing but 6.0s anymore, the mechanic was literally just upselling you nonsense you don't need
@austinsautos1919
@austinsautos1919 3 года назад
Thank you for saying this! I was thinking about washing the engine bay so I can actually see if any new oil forms after replacing the CAC boot (other comment mentioned this), but I was worried about all the electronic connections. Either way, im glad I didnt get any work done at that shop yet. Turns out RU-vid comments are the ultimate mechanic. Haha.

It sounds like the heads are leaking to me when the heads are leaking it can make your coolant low

Its still a possibility, but after tightening a loose hose clamp the water leak stopped.

I have a 6.0 mine it only blew coolant out on the highway pushing it. Its how they blow headhaskets most of the time. I did it all myself for like 1800 I did oil cooler and reasealed everything. Its awsome work fixing hell a new one is a house payment. I did it cab on with an engine lift not impossible or something you can't do at home if you are mechanically inclined don't drive it forever pushing coolant can damage the deck of the block. I build 18 wheeler engine detriot 12.7 isx cat where I got my know how to do it! Enjoy it man with some work there awsome

@@austinsautos1919 yeah he is great! The 6.0’s can be a little pricey to get the kinks worked out but once they are good it’ll outperform the 7.3. He prides on going another 400-500k after his work.

If anything have them do all the injectors and get it done with the gasket. If you want to keep it they are just as expensive as children lol. I have 2 an 04 and an 03
