Keep the 300SD, the sentimental value of it being the first RU-vid car is more than enough reason. Toy with the Chevy then sell once you get tired off it and need to get rid of a car. No point in keeping that one if it’s not the same exact car you once had and tried to get back.
yea, i'd agree the merc has symbolic value but the roadmaster has content opportunity. I'd say dumping the roadmaster when he runs out of ideas is the... smart play?
@@jorgey4 I'm pretty sure he'd run videos on both regardless of which he keeps so I'd think that while the roadmaster would have more videos, he can fully enjoy it while making the videos and sell it once he's bored of it. One's likely to get bored of something if there's no personal attachment to it too. It would only depend on how much money he gets back if toying with the car ends up depreciating it instead of bettering it.
I spent my younger years supporting numerous vehicle's with expensive mechanical needs. When they were working properly, which wasn't that often, they were wonderful to drive. When I was faced with a $20,000 bill to repair a BMW M5 I decided enough was enough. If I didn't start to save money I was going to end up living in a cardboard box under a bridge in my retirement. Since that shock I have purchased numerous bland boring cars that start and run every day and accumulate tens of thousands of miles with nothing more than maintenance. I still watch Hoovie's videos and reminisce about the days I knew my mechanic so well I had to invite him to my wedding and include him on my Christmas list.
@@supportdesk7703 The 300TD was the wagon. The 300SD was the saloon (longer sedan). The 300D was the standard sedan and the 300CD was the Coupe. I've owned about six of them, and they were all great.
@@rapu4 the Saab 9000 is also a very nice car.. but the left turning nuts.. drove me nuts.. so back in the nineties I briefly drove one.. quickly traded it for a Lancia Thema, subsequently a Kappa Coupe and a whole other bunch of other stuff;-)
Hoovie, that 300SD just has too much history for you to sell - it's almost like your SL in that regard. Regardless of what you do with the Roadmaster, you've gotta keep the Merc!
I agree. That car has a lot of great memories/history for him (and for Car Wizard I might add). While the Roadmaster is great and would be more of a project for the channel, I think the 300SD should be kept just for the sentimental value.
@@JulianWatsonThe400 I could see it sticking around for a few eps just to make content....there might even be more content potential in it than in the Merc. The Merc goes well beyond content though - it's probably not worth selling to fund something else, and it's got far too much sentimental value to sell. It's gotta become a permanent fixture, alongside the SL!
Mercedes 300SD was our family car growing up. It was a Tank and, from what I recall, the most reliable and low maintenance car we owned. Sadly, a Ford truck with bumper bars rear ended us at a stop light going 40mph (according to the report)... rear end was beyond repair, but we did not suffer any injuries and were able to drive the car home.
Same thing happened to my grandpa's 280 SE some almost 20 years ago. It was rear-ended at around 50-60 km/h while stopped at a light and the rear end was beyond repair. Back then there was so many 126's they just went to a junkyard specialised in these cars and cut an entire back wall off a less fortunate w126. They replaced it, painted it and used the car for years before selling it.
Love to have seen this Bromance blossom over time. The fact that it’s based on their love for cars makes it even better. Hoovie, Wizard, you are awesome people and I love your content. Great job. Much appreciated. That F355 is sweet!🔥
Back in the 90s, a friend of mine had a Peugeot 205 which reached such decrepitude that the seat cloth gave way to reveal... straw! It was actually stuffed with straw. Those crazy French!
Hoovie and the Car Wizard, I can tell that they have great respect for each other. You can tell that they have a great friendship, you can’t beat that.
The MB "safety cone" door latches have a white plastic bumper in the body striker. Replace the plastic insert or the whole striker and the door will shut like magic.
I get you want the wagon, but keep the diesel, its attached to way too many "firsts", and don't let it turn into that "I wish I had kept it" later in life :P
If you decide to keep the Mercedes (which I think you will), crank up the fuel pump and the turbo boost a bit. It's really easy to get more than 150 HP from that engine.
What for? It will still be utterly slow on acceleration, barely faster than in stock form. The only logical thing to do to an OM617 is to put a 5-speed Getrag manual behind it so that it can at least cruise at higher speeds comfortably.
@@pandras8312 What for? Because it'll make the big Merc much nicer to drive. Torque will be improved quite a bit too. 5 speed gearbox is a good idea anyhow.
I really appreciate you continuing to promote The Wizard. I hope he gets all the credit that's coming to him. He is truly an excellent mechanic. His team is also top-notch.
Damn I miss my ole 420SEL. Chocolate interior and a copper exterior. Oh man what a smooth operating machine. Was minnnnt. And retained all of the Mercedes leather smell. Even had a electric reclining rear.
Watching you have so many issues with unreliable gas cars makes me sooo glad I drove a new Tesla! No gas. No oil changes. No transmission. Virtually no maintenance!
I had no idea I had been following you since almost the beginning. Looking back I started watching 4 or 5 videos in, it's amazing how far you and the wizard have come.
Get the wizards input on how he would build the 300 d and possibly suprise him with the car after it’s done as a monument to your friendship then that leaves you with the road master to do as you wish with so it’s a win win situation plus look at how sentimental the wizard is with the car i mean come on it would make his day
I may be a touch drunk (very drunk) but when he asked if wizard was getting emotional I got emotional. I realized I've been watching since around when he sold this car and it tripped me out for a second. Glad to keep supporting you all these years man, there's nobody more entertaining I'd give my time to.
I approve of going back to buying actual hoopties, cars that the rest of us might be able to afford. Hoovie, I've been with you since the beginning, but I have almost zero interest in exotic cars. Best wishes on all your future endeavors. I'll stick with you regardless.
I took another break from videos about hoovies videos. I now binge watching them to please my night. hoovies driving cars i want, new news about things, Wizzard making love to a mercedes. i appreciate these.
"Horse Hair" was a type of GRASS used by many car manufacturers for many years, most especially German. The grass in question grew outside of the VW factory in Wolfsburg. They would form it using adhesive.
The great thing about the wizard is his Outlook on how to work on anything. At the end of the day, it's all just nuts, bolts, & a bunch of wiring. If someone else was able to put something together or service it, there is absolutely no reason I shouldn't be able to
Hoovie please for guy like me who are deathly afraid of buying a Merc or a BMW that is older because of all the issues and high cost of repair. I would love to see some videos comparing common repair work on those cars vs what repair work is common on domestic cars as in a price comparison
I had said yesterday that you should keep the Buick, but that was before I knew that you and Wizard had such a connection with the Mercedes. Knowing that I changed my mind, you should keep the Mercedes if nothing more than the sentimental value of it, that is priceless if you ask me.
That 123 is beautiful, I too grew up around old mercedes diesels and have a soft spot for them. Great job sourcing the parts to make it what it is today!
Crazy small world. I was just talking to a guy about that Mercedes yesterday. I buy storage lockers at auction, and I went to go clean one out in Lake Geneva, WI about 4 or 5 years ago and the property manager pulled up to meet me driving that exact car. I told him it looked great, and thought it looked familiar. He said he bought it from you, lol. Crazy timing that this video came out yesterday. Love the color.
isn’t it crazy that just by watching this group of people throughout the last few years. Watching as they become better friends and they become millionaires in front of our eyes and it is all documented on video. crazy world we live in!
Tyler, my father had a 1982 300SD Turbo Diesel, same color as yours, I really enjoyed driving that car in my younger days, I also took my girlfriend now wife on dates with it. I think it was the first year for that body style. 👌 Keep it.
I actually owned a manual w126, factory built. It was a right hand drive, Gibraltar sold car. It was a 300SE, 1987, with air conditioning and leather seats but a manual transmission, very strange spec and ultimately not desirable!
In Europe, the W126 series was never sold with a diesel. The diesels were for North America market only. My dad had a 280 S manual, which was great fun to drive!
Tyler, you have a lot of courage buying another Ferrari convertible. It's pretty cool you got the old Benz back, and purchased another Wonderful Roadmaster too. You have come a long way.
i think weezard is onto something with that D, it's a beautiful car! i love the color combo, love the wheels. and it's just beautiful. and the fact that it started building your, and his, channel, it's a special machine
Gentle reminder that a brother and sister have a relationship. A mom and her son have a relationship. You and your friend have a relationship. Words have multiple meanings.
OMG, I love that Black and gold GT350H. My brothers friend rebuilt a replica with the same colors and gave us a ride, back in the day. Loved that vehicle
Ferrari F355 is an absolute dream car of mine. The sound is just epic and unlike most ferrari's (in my opinion) it looks beautiful, its a stunning piece of art. Old cars now of course and judged by todays modern vehicles not particularly fast but I don't care! Very envious Tyler! Great video btw.

Wow, so many memories for me..my first Merc was a W126 280SEL, in petrol blue. Such a great colour on that car. Same colour interior too as yours. Shame mercedes dropped the colour. I also had a 355GTS. What a great engine, but prone to issues. Fortunately I sold it before things could go wrong..I did need to replace CATS. They burn out really easily, then the manifold will crack, so if yours hasn't consider ceramic coating it as preventative measure. I loved it, a go cart. But my 575 M is a far superior drive. Thanks for the memories.
I don’t think so, it adds flavor to the channel , sure the Ferraris were kinda getting old but the T bird and the 2 mustangs are definitely cool adds and the T bird turned out to be the hoopties lol
Maybe an odd comment but one of the issues I've always noticed with these videos (both yours and other RU-vidrs as well) is the test drives never really look fast when filmed inside. Honestly, I see you grinning in those videos but to me it doesn't look fast at all from the angle I am given. But at 10:41 you nailed it - the straight on shot from the passenger's seat really did the job in translating the speed from the car to my eyes. I know you nailed it because at 10:44 I had a huge grin on my face and one second later you turned to the camera and smiled. Bravo.
Keep both. Obviously the MB is the actual car, but the Roadmaster also represents, in at least replica form, an important part of Hoovie History. Either is not too costly to maintain. Plenty of other fleet cars to part with if need be. Keep both. One for commemoration, the other for fun/tribute project.
It's beautiful how cars bring people together. As much as many veiwers would love to buy that Benz, including myself, she's a keeper for sure. Thanks for sharing 👍
Horsehair padding in furniture can last for many decades. Mites can eat it and so cleaning and adding a bit of extra to it has to be done every so often. One substitute is Spanish moss, though I think the softer parts of that need to be intentionally rotted away first.
I grew up with Wheeler Dealers, Wizard is to me Edd’s China „American Cousin” (Clarkson voice here) :) Love The Channel! Thanks Tyler for sharing the history of you and David. Best regards.
whoever designs the graphics on your tees and other merch is top-notch. Some of the best and most creative I've seen as far as RU-vid content creator merch goes. Don't let 'em go
Great job on the video You guys are great together. Looks like maybe Mrs wizard should be a little jealous about the relationship. Haha That's the coolest thing about cars and the owners. They some how tie us together and make great friendships thru the love of cars. Hope you guys the best. Always be safe in your travels and Take Care
Hoov, I watch all your videos and straight love what you do. I'm always buying vehicles but covid hit and I havnt had time or funds to fix any of them.
In Europe these model S cars from that era were never sold with a diesel engine, only petrol, starting with the 280 se upwards. The only ones that do exist here are actually imported from the US or engine swapped from a W124 model.
The 355 sounds great. Your timing was perfect because the market for these has remembered that there’s a gated shifter and no screens. Enjoy it in good health!
We did have the stick version of the 300SD in Europe. Very few people here buy non manual cars. I used to work for a Merc specialist, it was a rare day in hell we got an automatic in.
