That hardly makes Maul more powerful or anything. By the time Sidious had Dooku as his apprentice he already had his sights on Anakin, while he didn't when he had Maul. Also, Dooku was old and couldn't succed Sidious while Maul was young.
Yes he said it because he would never keep Dooku as his apprentice because he was THE dark lord of the sith. He would'nt just take a halfway fallen jedi as his sith apprentice especially not while he has plans for another one.

Form V wasn't just aggressive, it was powerfull. Like, phisically powerfull. And it specializes on powerfull parries, while makashi uses fast and powerless strikes to probe the opponent, gauging a feeling for the flow of the battle and his intentions, and in the best cases influencing it. But against form V each attack was a potential hazard, as it could get parried violently, leaving the attacker open. Form V wasn't even that offensive, it is developed from form III, the most defensive one, and had no acrobatics that could leave one open. Form IV, Ataru, is more offensive. Form VII can be powerfull or not depending on wich strike the user performs, as it uses strikes from all other 6 forms, but is aggressive in that the user does things that are apparently weird and wrong but make sense in the moment and surprise the opponent, at the cost of leaving the user potentially open. So both form II and VII try to take controll of the flow of battle and outsmart the opponent, altough Form II does it with small quick movements while form VII uses al kind of movement, weird, strong, quick, acrobatic, whatever as long as it's unexpected. I think they would be evenly matched as far as form goes. Darth maul must know Form V if he can use form VII, but it's not his favourite form, so switching to it might not even be an advantage, and since dooku is so experienced he could probably switch form as well to something that works well against form V, if he thinks his good Form II can't beat Maul second choice Form V.
In the novel Sidious tells Count Dooku to hold back because he wants him to kill obi-wan. In speculation Sidious could have easily used tiny amounts of the force to influence the outcome of the battle.

Tyranus outclassed him in every arena save age. In terms of Galactic significance, Maul barely factors as a foot note, Tyranus on the other hand created an entire movement, funded large parts of the CIS and GAR, trained multiple proficient Jedi killers, caused a schism in the Jedi Order and contended with the best the Order had. Even Obi Wan who fought both Maul and Tyranus told the Jedi Council that there was no contest. Dooku was on a level far above that of Maul. And malicious intent? Tyranus betrayed his family, friends and life to take up the Sith mantle of Dark Lord, he willingly became a Sith rather than being an indoctrinated errand boy raised from youth like Maul. Tyranus was a Sith Lord, Maul at best was a meager Sith assassin.
Grand Moff and do you forget that palpatine favored maul over dooku. He said dooku was a pawn and maul was a big loss. Plus I’m canon maul is ranked above dooku and that’s canon. So people can have their opinions ofc but just know in canon maul is ranked above dooku. And I’m not saying that dooku isn’t skilled and cool he absolutely is both but I just don’t think he fits the role as a Sith Lord. And maul was a Sith Lord so just accept it in canon the refer to him as a Sith Lord.... I think maul could win is he doesn’t get cocky. Plus he fought pretty good against palpatine ofc palpatine was toying with him but if maul has to make palpatine resort to using the force then I think he’s got a good chance against dooku. Maul is the Son of Dathomir Dooku is the Count of Serenno Dooku was well developed in 'Attack of the Clones' in my opinion. I agree that Maul wasn't developed in 'The Phantom Menace' but 'The Clones Wars' (CGI 2008 Series) did develop him a lot as a character.
I find it interesting in revenge of the sith how anakin cuts off dooku's hands and takes his lightsaber and than executes him. yet when mace windu was going to execute palpatine in a similar manner, all of a sudden it's not the jedi way and he must stand trial. anakins a hypocrite
That was part of the reason Anakin left the Jedi. After he killed Dooku, he was told he had chosen wrong and should not have done it. Then, when he witnessed a master prepare to do what they had said was wrong and break their own rule, he saw the Jedi, as a whole, as hypocrites. Imagine if for years you were told by your parents not to do something, such as eat that cookie from the cookie jar, and if you did you were punished. Then one day you walk into the kitchen and find them eating the cookies from the cookie jar, you'd feel betrayed and see them as hypocritical. So that was one of the tipping points for Anakin: seeing his master break his greatest rules. Honestly I think if Windu hadn't attempted to kill Palpatine, and had just arrested him, Anakin wouldn't have betrayed Windu and forsaken the Jedi way, and the story would have ended with Palpatine being sentenced to death by the Senate...

As commander of the armed forces legally speaking Anikan should do what Palpatine says Palpatine had made it into a no win situation for the Jedi. In order to even try to stop him they would have to do exactly what he would accuse them of doing Windu had no legal authority to do what he did. It was an illegal coup in every sense of the word Palpatine gained his power legally. It was not illegal to be a Sith Lord Windu tried to instigate a coup and failed. He then tried to assassinate the chancellor and got killed for it He was so reluctant to bring him before the courts because he knew what he was doing wasn't actually legal. Palpatine would walk free and the Jedi leaders would be arrested and tried for treason Even if he was successful mas ameida (next in line in secession) still probably would've branded the Jedi as traitors and the new empire would turn against them Their only chance would be to kill Palpatine. Shut down the senate and completely take over the republic. Making themselves the ones that killed democracy and formed an empire. They could bring democracy back but first they'd have to weed out all the corrupted Palpatine pawns. You'd be hard pressed to get the population to believe the Jedis excuses for why they're doing it also. The order would have their reputation permanently destroyed and for the good of the galaxy they'd probably be legally barred from galactic governing and lose their position as peacekeepers. That's IF democracy every returned. They could hold onto power indefinitely creating a theocratic oligarchic empire. Non democratic rule by a single elite group of one religion with a single grandmaster at the top with final say. It was a no win situation. Palpatine and Vader were right about the Jedi being "evil". From a certain point of view the Jedi did everything they were accused of doing. They did try to instigate an illegal coup. They did attack the chancellor. They did try to assassinate him. The clone contingency orders were put in place in case shit went bad. There was even an order to get rid of the chancellor. Order 66 was technically there to stop a Jedi attempt to take over the republic and coup out the government. Technically it was used properly Technically they were the bad guys

He also had yet to kill someone close to him, which as far as I am aware, is a requirement. Dooku was a Sith I'm pretty sure

whilst maul is a monster i would say he would loose to dooku. He's too enraged and he uses a obvious offensive style which dooku will use against him by putting him on the defensive like he does with anakin and kenobi on that pike syndicate base in the clone wars.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you on this one. As you said it yourself, the main reason why Dooku lost to Anakin is because his form 2 lightsaber fighting style wasn't enough to keep up with Anakin's form 5 fighting style which was more ferocious and too fast for Dooku. Darth Maul uses form 7 which is the most ferocius and offensive fighting style out of them all and it relies on fast acrobatic moves and unpredictability to overpower the opponent. Darth Maul is also in better physical shape and has a far greater durability and stamina than Dooku who is by this point getting old and frail. I do admit that Dooku is more gifted in the force than Maul but in a duel scenario I don't think it would matter much since they are both extremely good at telekinesis and the only other thing Dooku can use against Maul is force lightning. Overall Maul is far better duelist in my opinion but Dooku is stronger in the force. I think that if this battle came down to a one on one lightsaber fight just like many other sith/jedi battles have, Maul would have a higher chance of winning the fight.
Only that old man defeated a young Kenobi twice without breaking a sweat, and an old Kenobi killed Maul one on one in only 2 seconds in Rebels cuz he led with a move Kenobi had watched him make before so it's fair to say Maul lacked strategy as a duelist. Also Anakin applied his own extreme power to form 5 a commonly used jedi form that Dooku was familiar with but was monstrously more powerful in Anakins hands than most as he had stronger natural ability with the force than anyone alive at the time, Anakin was also familiar with Makashi the extremely rare form Dooku used which was difficult to anticipate, Maul would not have that same experience of fighting the count on many occasions to be able to perfect his own style to the point where he could counteract it as well as Skywalker could, however Dooku did have knowledge of form seven as it was used by Jedi at the temple and he spent most of his life there, and was considered the strongest duelist in the Jedi Order after Yoda, and Windu also Windu outmatched Sidious with form 7 whereas Maul could not, upon Mauls defeat he begged for Sidious to spare him, something Anakin did not do when he lost to Obi on Mustafar so he is also less aggressive. I understand your probably a big fan of Maul and don't wanna admit his weaknesses, but you should take a lesson from this video's author he likes Maul better than Dooku too, but was still able to be objective about the most likely outcome, this vid doesnt have 20,000+ likes for nothing.
Darth No-Balls I'm not that big of a fan of darth Maul. My favourite sith is actually Sidious. You said that Anakin had the best force abilities in that time. I doubt that is true. Yes, he had the best potential and if he wasn't crippeled by Obi Wan during thier duel he would surely become the strongest sith/jedi to ever live. But at the time of his second encounter with Dooku he still lacked training and experience to utilize his powers and I believe that the only reason he was able to beat Dooku is by channeling his anger and switching to form 5 which counters Dooku's form 2. Dooku tried to resist it but the form was just too fast for him and so Anakin cut his arms and defeated him. Author himself said that this is how Dooku lost. I just don't understand how could he fair against Maul who is a trained duelist and uses an even more ferocius form than Anakin used than, all of this coupled with Maul's stamina and acrobatic skills. I'm not saying, by any means that Dooku isn't a strong duelist, I'm just saying that his main style of lightsaber fighting isn't suitable here and his stamina is much weaker because of his age. Maul is weaker in the force, I agree, but there is a difference in being strong with a force and being a strong duelist and one doesn't have to go with the other. For example Kylo Ren is a terrible duelist compared to the other previous siths but he us very formidable in the force and even showcases the abilities we haven't seen before.

Maul was ferocious but had no tactical ability in a duel, he's stupidly arrogant to a fault, that's why a padawan was able to cut him in half, while he stood staring at him like a dumbass, that's why old man Obi-Wan killed him in 3 seconds on Tattooine. You should read the ROTS novel, in it you will discover that before Kenobi and Skywalker arrived to "rescue" the Chancellor he told Dooku to hold back as he wanted Anakin alive to manipulate against the jedi, Palps half lied to him of course, he clearly wanted Dooku to die so he could replace him with Anakin, basically Dooku lost in a large part because he was deceived and the rest is that Anakin dedicated himself to becoming strong enough to defeat Dooku long before their final encounter. You pretty clearly seem like the typical maul fan to me you talk only of his strengths and ignore his weaknesses. Also Maul never used form 5 in combat and if he tried he'd suck at it way worse than Skywalker it's a lighsaber form not a rocket launcher, you can't just decide to pick it up and expect to blow shit up. Anakin trained at it vigorously to get revenge on the dude who took his hand. Maul uses form 7 and as a vicious animal he doesn't have the calculation or the skill to know enough to change it up against Dooku or even use it effectively. Dooku would smoke him.
I think maul would win. I disagree completely to the not having any tactical ability in a duel. You should watch episode 1 again, in it he has very good melee combat tactics for fighting 2 opponents at once, and even lures qui gon, one of the more level headed jedi masters strong enough to have been on the council, into the forcefield barrier to finish him off first, sperate from obiwan. How is this not tactical? The book on episode 1 even said that maul only lost because he was too arrogant to think obiwan, the padawan (but still one of the greatest jedi of all time) could beat him. If maul took this arrogance into his duel with duku, then yes duku would win, but as maul was not this arrogant with qui gon, I dont think he would be with duku either, who is stronger than qui gon. And I hear arguements saying maul wasnt familiar with any style other than 7, which isnt true. Even in this video it states he was trained in all lightsaber forms but specialized in form 7, like how duku specialized in form 2. So Maul would in fact have some familiarity with this style. Additionally maul specialized in Teras Kasi, which even this video stated allows the development of extreme speed and the ability to anticipate attacks. This in addition to his natural ability and form 7 I think would be fairly comparable to anakin's aggressive saber use of form 5, and even if not quite as good, I think would still give duku a very difficult time as that was the reason he lost to anakin. As far as being defeated by obiwan, lets not forget that anakin, who killed duku, was also defeated by Obiwan. Obiwan was perhaps one of the greatest jedi of all time, and I dont think maul or duku would be able to beat him. Also its debatable weather Windu outmached Sidious, as its very likely Sidious was buying time for Anakin's arrival to turn him to the dark side. Duku is definitely stronger in the force than maul, but in terms of lightsaber dueling, I would give the edge to Maul.

Factor in Mauls quick death a few months after the posting of this vid, actually supports the authors theory as better than yours. I think a major factor that we don't take into consideration is that maul would taunt dooku with the killing of qui gon jinn. Surely this would severely unbalance dooku in a duel. Thats pretty much why maul beat obi wan in every single encounter because he unbalanced him from the force. And now with clone wars season 7 its apparent that maul is much stronger with the force than we might have thought. I think this fight would be a lot closer with what we know now.
I see maul winning, his apparent resistance/will to push through force lightning would greatly decrease dooku's lightning use, and maul's use of heavy attacks would over power dooku, much like anakin was able to achieve when facing he count. Maul was also much more durable and powerful in his younger more trained body, not to mention his training to kill force users without using the force himself. But that's just my opinion
Jaxter The Lightning he resisted was from the Nightsister Magela and her force lightning was not as strong as Sidious. This is why he is able to resist besides his cybernetics..
Yeah in Legends though neither Maul nor Dooku were seen as possible successors to Sidious though only Anakin/Vader was pre crippling and burning but Dooku was considered more worthy to both Plagueis And Sidious in terms of force powers, lightsaber skills, intelligence, politics, governance, philosophy, vision, and other ways heck in The Plagueis Novel Dooku as a Jedi Master by The Phantom Menace was considered a superior to Sidious And Plagueis in force power only after Sidious annihilated Plagueis was he on Dookus level of power yeah
I think it's worth noting that Anakin only beat Dooku once after going up against him several times during the clone wars. Anakin only lived long enough to kill Dooku because Dooku allowed him to live.
the rebels maul gives me goosebumps every time! he definitely became manipulative like his master. and he also has more patience (he waited for ezra near the temple or probably in it for years. too bad vader destroyed his plan) i think darth maul might just be killed by old age.
Unfortunately I think so and I hate the idea. In my eyes Maul and Obi-Wan are even after what Maul did to him during the clone wars. Maul could have killed him on several occasions but he didn't because he wanted to make him suffer as he had suffered so it doesn't make any sense for him to go after Obi-Wan now since he got what he wanted. I was really hoping Vader would be the one to finally put an end to Maul but I don't think its going to happen.
Except for the fact that Maul is a lot younger than Dooku, I do not see where he would have an advantage over Dooku. Perhaps a stronger connection to the dark side but I still agree that Dooku is more powerful in the force and perhaps more skilled with the lightsaber.
Dooku is the best lightsaber duelist, he mastered Form 2 and curved-handle-lightsaber give him huge advantage over most lightsaber users... hes someone u will be super careful to fight against but still lose...Maul just rages too much to be careful lol
In Legends Dooku as a Jedi Master was considered by Plagueis And Sidious as a superior to themselves in force powers and lightsaber skills it was only after Sidious murdered Plagueis that Sidious became Dookus equal in power and note Sidious and Dooku got even more powerful in Revenge Of The Sith yet both by the time of The Phantom Menace were considered superior to Plagueis And Maul in power by The Phantom Menace yeag
i feel like dooku trying to hurt Maul's ego would only make him more and more angry and the pure hatred and aggression would be WAY too much for dooku especially from a form 7 style

It doesn't matter how powerful your anger makes you when you get cut in half by a lightsaber... It took Obi-wan only three strikes to kill Maul in their final duel. Dooku probably would have ended it in two...
I am a fan of both, to be honest I like maul more though. I think dooku beats him, but only in the force. Maul's fighting style was the one that directly counter-acted dooku's and maul was extremely good at it. Dooku would still be more powerful though.

You are mistaken as not all Jedi fight the same. For example: Qui Gon fought with form 4 and Obi-Wan fought with form 3. The form Maul used wasn't just effective against Jedi, it was very effective against form 2 (the one dooku used). Don't forget Anakin bested Dooku with form 5. Maul was a phenomenal fighter and was very strong physically and in the ways of the dark side. Dooku was rather old and his form 2 lacked force in his strikes. Summary: Maul was a superb duelist no doubt but would loose in a battle with the force, as dooku was stronger in the force. Call me a Maul kiss-ass all you want, but I'm just presenting the facts.
Well we were talking fighting style that comes down to more than just Lightsaber forms, Maul was trained by Sidious to hunt and kill Jedi plain and simple. Dooku was trained by both Jedi and Sith as a result has a much larger bag of tricks than Maul. FYI form 7 is Mauls form not 5, 5 breaks down defenses with power attacks 7 is just pure dark side aggression, the video presented the facts, you present your biased opinion, form 2 was great for Tyrannus not only cuz he was the undisputed master at it in his era but he also only needed one hand to use it, keeping his off hand free to hurl force lightning, force push or toss debris at his opponent with the force, that topped off with a taunting ability that confuses and manipulates that is tough to beat. Especially for one who was cut in half by a padawan because of 1 unexpected move that he watched coming at him. if Maul was better trained to fight sith he might have a counter for all that, but Sidious isn't gonna teach his assassin how to kill him, he's not a bloody idiot, so Maul loses unless he can catch Dooku in a bad spot, like the man says 9 outta 10 times. If Tyrannus was fighting with only 1 arm your argument might have a leg to stand on but that is not the case.
You're trying to act like forms and technique are two completely different things. Forms by the way are a series of techniques used to combat someone, just in-case you didn't know. Also your argument about Maul being trained to fight Jedi is irrelevant considering Dooku was the least sith of any of the previous. He didn't even have sith eyes, sure he could shoot force lightning, but that hardly gave obi-wan a hard time to deflect. Dooku was hardly a sadist compared to any of the other sith, who enjoyed watching their enemies writhe in pain. A true sith wouldn't have been so welcoming of Anakin into the dark side, considering Bane's rule of two. It appears I was wrong about his form, however my point still stands, its funny because I labeled the form wrong, but I was describing it correctly. Fighting with emotion obviously means you fight your hardest, you strike with as much force and jump all over the damn place to kill your opponent. Also, form 7 is similar to form 5 in the sense that it is very aggressive and offensive. Don't forget Maul also mastered form 6 which is a combination of all previous forms. I never said Maul could defeat dooku considering every factor (like the force), I simply said Maul was a superior duelist. I am looking past all bias, dooku is pretty cool and all but Maul comes out as a superior duelist.
I disagree. Maul has speed, strength, and intensity. His dueling abilities are different than Dooku’s but still match in skill. Dooku’s head games may would be much more efficient on a pathetic little Jedi, but as you said earlier, Maul’s Anger only makes him stronger. I believe that he would resist Dooku’s force lightning and land the finisher. Like I said, insulting a Jedi will hurt them but they are told to keep calm. If they lose their cool, there masters may scold them. A sith doesn’t care if he loses it
I wouldn't say Maul's dueling abilities match those of Dooku's. Although Maul dominated Padawan Kenobi, Kenobi was at least able to get in some decent hits on him. Jedi Knight Kenobi, meanwhile, got utterly humiliated by Dooku-the same Kenobi who contended with Maul several times throughout the Clone Wars. Dooku took on both Anakin & Obi Wan at the Pykes' fortress, & actually had the upper-hand on both of them. Maul's only real shot would be to get his hands on Dooku, as I do believe he's a superior martial artist. If he doesn't manage to do that, Dooku's force abilities with lightning & telekinesis, & his superior lightsaber dueling abilities, would pretty much wipe out Maul.

Luke wasn't a Jedi Knight in RotJ as well but he defeated Vader.
When was this? In the battle I saw Opress had help from Ventris and Dooku still schooled them both, blasting one with lightning while simultaneously fencing with Ventris. Dooku left when he saw the foolishness in trying to continue to fight them both at the same time.
I veiw the battle as more of a stalemate. Maul's survival instinct, acrobatic, and physical abilities allowing for his escape; whereas Dooku's strategic mindset and versatility in the force would allow for his escape. I do see Dooku escaping with less severe injuries if the advantage is Maul's than if Maul is forced to escape from Dooku.

Taking on Mace and Aayla by yourself is pretty much as good as going toe-to-toe with Yoda. Not sure Dooku is mentally stronger, or even more clever than Maul was because in Son of Dathomir, I'm pretty sure Maul did outsmart Dooku a time or 2 in it. Maul is a legendary duelist too. He mastered Form 7 (his best form) and form 6. He nearly mastered the rest of the forms as well. Not only is he an equal, if not, a little better than Dooku with a lightsaber, even disarmed he can be deadly with his martial arts skills. And since Maul is best with Form 7, which is similar to form 5, which is Dooku's biggest weakness, Maul would most likely beat Dooku because 1. Legendary skill. 2. Maul's form gives the exact same huge advantage that Anakin's Form 5 style would have against Dooku. Maul force power is pretty good too. In the deleted scene for the Maul and Savage vs. Sidious fight, Maul broke Sidious' force wall, slammed him against the wall hard and managed to hold him there for some time until Sidious tried to drop a chandelier on top of Maul, forcing Maul to lose his force grip and dodge the falling chandelier. The only other person that has managed to break Sidious' force wall is Yoda. So yeah, I think Maul could go toe-to-toe with Yoda, and he would be a lot more than a contest for Dooku.

I think Maul would win. And I think you are underestimating Maul's strategy and intelligence. He was a very clever character in the clone wars TV show. His brother Savage Oppress had more of the unbridled rage and anger that you are attributing to Maul.
Kempo Kid agree people think dooku win 9/10 times that's way to many and as he said dooku was pretty much vulnerable to fast and agile to a lightsaber user or rather maul. As maul has so much rage in him and fuels himself with. Dooku was a traitor to the Jedi and he doesn't like to kill Jedi which is a big weakness. So I reckon maul would win 7/10 times.
Dooku had powerful force abilities and was an older and more experienced duelist. He was very steeped in the dark side, and was trained as a Sith. Maul wasn't, and he didn't focus on force abilities much. I believe Dooku would kill Maul 8/10 times.

Has nothing to do with "aggression" It was the power behind anakin's strikes that overwhelmed his defense. It isn't speed or aggression, dooku was a duelist, they have an advantage counter attacking over aggressive people, its because anakin's style battered his defenses down.
Count Dooku wins hands down (... I didn't mean to make a hands joke, I just started typing and it came out.) Lee as Dooku was one of the only things I really liked about the prequels.
Double bladed weapons are good at catching people off guard when they're unfamiliar with the weapon. In the Darth Bane novel, he was taught the secret of how to defeat users with this weapon. People have the tendency to try to keep track of both blades simultaneously which divides your attention from the blade that's actually coming at you. It's actually really easy to keep track of both blades because if you know the position of oneblade then you automatically know the position of the other blade. I was not able to deduce this for myself either. I was also caught completely off-guard when Darth Maul ignited the other blade and likely would not have been able to defend myself against it.
Maul while good, was not great. Obi Wan by the time of the clone wars was proven more powerful. The same Obi Wan that Dooku could toy with. Anakin would beat Maul very quickly. The match would likely not even last 20 seconds. Two aggressive fighters. The better ones wins easily.

This is the first video I don't agree with you. Dooku would never "mob the floor" with Maul. He was more powerful in the force yes. But Maul has also grown in his force abilities. Mauls lightsaber skills and physical abilities would win from Dooku. I would say Maul would win 6/4 times from Dooku. But still, love your channel!

Maul failed with his own style, he's supposed to be able to anticipate his enemies moves, he could not do so against Obi-Wan (padawan Obi-Wan I should add) on Naboo, despite the fact that he was looking right at Kenobi before he made the strike that cut him in half, such an obvious failure as a Sith wouldn't stand a chance against Tyrannus.

I feel like Maul would face roll Dooku, Maul, countless examples of him over coming great odds. Not to mention, Maul was trained to kill. Dooku is a well documented coward. Mental attacks don't work on maul with the possible exception of his previous master.
Dooku is a strategist and a tactician, he's able to see the bigger picture than Maul, that's why he's a Lord and not a mere assassin. What you call cowardice is in fact a sound strategy if you gain nothing by continuing to fight, there is no reason to stay. In fact by your very argument you prove why Maul would lose such a contest. He's unable to think past the present, look at his failures against Kenobi, his obsession that limited his focus and significance on the galactic scale, look at how he failed to make any meaningful impact on the galactic stage other than being temporary king of a cadre of bandits until he was crushed by the real powers in the Galaxy. Dooku is a master of Form 2 and he even mastered the special curved handle lightsaber, these 2 factors combined with his personalities make him a very tough opponent for any experienced lightsaber users... on the other hand, Maul rages a lot...not being able to keep calm during fight with such a dangerous enemy like Dooku can be fatal
No one on one on even footing Dooku would win he is more skilled as a saber duelist and is more powerful in the force plus Maul does not strike with the same force or skill as Yoda, Anakin nor Savage concerning strength with the latter yeah.

I think a duel between them would be much closer than you give Maul credit for. Dooku's application of Makashi is all about flowing with the momentum of an opponent and using it against them as Makashi can't generate any momentum of its own to block effectively. Maul's application of Juyo is all about striking fast, hard, and from constantly unpredictable angles. Juyo is nothing like the graceful Ataru, where every swing flows into the next, and thus much more predictable for a Makashi specialist like Dooku. I think a duel between them would be very much like Dooku's final duel with Anakin, only with Maul ramping up the pace even further than Anakin. It would always be a close duel, but I think Maul would have a better chance of winning not only because of Juyo being such a good answer to Makashi, but simply because Maul has fifty more years of youth to draw from. Maul would tire Dooku out in the end. Dooku would put up a hell of a fight, maybe even get in a few torrents of Force Lightning, but Maul is just too tough and energetic an opponent for someone like Dooku to beat.

Mauls 20 years of training by Sidious was all about controlling his anger and using it to concentrate, and his training would have consisted of Sidious trying to stop maul being unable to control himself because of his anger, like some hot head who gets stabbed because someone hurt his feewings.
That one moment in the video just coerced me to comment. Dooku: "Master Kenobi, you disappoint me. Yoda holds you in such high esteem." (Always does this when duelling Anakin and I agree that it's an effective move as really and truly, Kenobi is the master and thus mocks and undermines Anakin all the way up. Dooku always focuses on Kenobi solely whenever Kenobi and Anakin are against him. Dooku ignoring Anakin shows what level he is on and even Grievous focused mainly on Kenobi as I remmeber just glimpsing the scene when Anakin first met Grievous and after a duel broke out, Grievous faced Kenobi and stated that he lost again as Grievous broke through the window but used grapplehook of some kind to attach back on to the ship.) steve there are no canon references to him at the moment that depict his training(though i hear there is one in the way), The only thing we've got is that darth sidious took him as his sith apprentice also darth sidious and everyone else regarded him as Darth. There was a comic where you saw his training but that is not canon anymore, same for the darth plagueis novel.
Emperor Palpatine Maul is not overrated, Lord Sidious. He is underrated. Maul can put up a fight against Dooku, but Count would win 6 out of 10 times due to slightly superior dueling skills and superior Force power.

Dooku held back in his fight with Anakin. He was supposed to be captured in order to boost Anakin’s image. Meaning that he can tolerate more than we think. Not to mention that Dooku was drugged, groggy, fought with one hand, and closed his eyes during a one vs. three in the Clone Wars.
Great video, but im gonna have to disagree on this one. I think Maul would wipe the floor with Dooku. First lf all in the son of Dathomir comics Maul's brilliant strategic plan enabled him to capture both general grevius and dooku at the same time, and then maul battled both ayla secura and mace windu at the same time, and prevailed. Also, in a non canon comic, a CLONE of darth maul, not the actual thing, managed to basically compete and toy with darth vader, and was only defeated when vader stabbed right through himself. Also i believe that maul has a perfect counter to everything dooku throws at him. He is much more physical, his force powers are very underrated, and i believe they are strong enough to rival darth vader, and mace windu, and in terms of lightsaber combat, maul's form and skill and anger would destroy dooku in seconds.
Ummm no. In the Son of Dathomir Dooku let himself to be captured to get to Mother Talzin. It was all part of his plan. Dooku has a massive advantage over Maul in force knowledge and beter feats as a duelist.
in the comic with darth maul clone its stated that the clone had THE SAME fighting abilities and skill as the original . and still lost to darth vader .

Saying that Dooku couldn't beat any gifted jedi is underrating of him. Dooku took on Anakin and Obi-Wan, the jedi order's best jedi duo several times, and pushed them back.
One piece of evidence in support of Dooku being more powerful than maul is the fact that Palpatine did not take maul back once he resurfaced in the clone wars, as he likely would have done if Maul was more powerful. If they were even close to each others power level Palpatine likely would've pitted them against each other and whichever one wins would be his apprentice
Tanner Vincent Dooku is more powerful than Maul, but your logic is flawed. Dooku was better for Sidious' purpose. He was more of a politician, and could lead the Seppies better. Maul had also grown as a leader, but he was a raging beast as of Phantom Menace, and Sidious couldn't know that Maul was a better leader. Dooku had a more friendly face. Who would you prefer to lead your Senate: a kind old man who is still very powerful or a brutish, horned beast? BTW, Maul didn't want to become Sidious' apprentice once again. He said those things just to get Sidious out of there in order to avoid a fight, but as Sidious noted, it was all deception.
Tanner Nincent I think because Dooku was weaker that Sidious would prefer him over Maul because the ultimate goal was Anakin and Dooku was just a tool to use until Anakin was ready. It would have been easier to dispose of him then Maul. As we see in the Clone Wars Sidious say to Maul that he is impressed and that he has become a rival.
Dooku almost got killed by Savage Opress even after showing he was a way better force user and duelist than him, it was all because he was Rampaging, and in the show we even see that Maul is way more calculated and calm than his brother!
If Maul angers Dooku by bringing up how he killed Qui-Gon, then Dooku may muster enough anger to best him in a duel, but if Maul were to continue to use his aggressive form of dueling he'd most likely win.
I enjoyed your theories as to why Dooku could beat Maul 9 out of 10 times. There is one thing you may have forgotten. Both Sith were very arrogant. I'm on the impression that could be another factor in both of them dueling. Despite Maul's rage attacks, he is very calculating. Personally, i think of Dooku let's his guard down evem once, Maul would have a field day with him. Arrogance and gloating tends to do that. Dooku seems the type. These are my thoughts

Not really, the only issues he had were when Oppress would strike a blow head on(and remember Oppress is actually stronger than Maul physically and in the Force due to the Nightsister Magics but he's not as skilled a duelist. When Dooku(or Ventress, Anakin and Obi Wan for that matter) tried to block Savage in a full power swing they were all thrown across the rooms they were in. Dooku had no problem countering Oppress tactically though as he simply used Force lightning or dodging to avoid the lumbering beast.
If Maul crossed Anakin/Vaders path he'd be just as dead as Dooku. Interestingly enough Dooku would want to kill Maul for killing Qui Gon. Dooku would stomp.
Watching some of your vidious, I was preparing to defend Dooku's cause, as I predicted that you will say: Maul. But it seems I was mistaken. Anyway, I would like to reply. I think there are a few core categories that we need to compare them: 1. Knowlegde/skill in the Force 2. Raw power in the Force 3. Physicals 4. Lightsaber skills As for raw power in the Force; I would say, that Dooku could be slightly superior. After all, technique and experience and even raw talent to use the Force and lightsaber is not enough to compete with Yoda or being consider as Mace's equal. Dooku was enormoussly strog in the Force. Not as strong as Yoda or Sidious, but very strong. But I feel, that he somehow lost some of his strenght. Not that he became weaker in the Force or something. But he spent many, many years to be like a jedi, to fight like a jedi. His choosen form, Makashi, was an ultimate jedi way to fight the dark side users. Free from emotions, cold, calculated, calm, which enables its user to use enemy's emotions against him. Nothing similar to Sith's Juyo, or Mace's own version of it. And not as pasive as Kenobi's Soresu. After his fall to the dark side, Dooku still fough more like a jedi - compering him to Mace for example. He was using his anger sometimes, for example when he was in danger and needed to use a full power of his lighning against Ventress. But until he was on edge, he avoided that. After all of those decades of fighting like a jedi, it becames natural for him. I think, that he could be even more powerful if he would stay in the Order... ... but he fell to the dark side, and became even more powerful. Yes, he used his powers without jedi's limits, he had much more ways to deal with things. But was never able to use the dark side like Anakin, or Maul for example could. Despite his own power, skills and raw power, I doubt that Dooku could be able to survive things, that Maul or Anakin survived. He would be killed on either Naboo or Mustafar if he would be on their place. His twisted nature was conflicted in my opinion. Perhaps if he could stay in the Order, or if his fallen the dark side was two or more decades ealier... then, he perhaps could be as strong as he was meant to be. But he wasted his talent. Maul, on the other hand... Well, to say that he was succesful would be a lie as well. Perhaps if he, and his mother both would survive their fight with Sidious, that could make Maul stronger and lead him to his prime. But after a Talzin death, Maul became a shadow of his former self - as we could see in a "Rebels". He was still strong and dangerous, but while Sidious, Yoda, Dooku or Mace reached their prime in their later years, Maul did not. Just like Dooku, he was meant to be much stronger. And, just as I think that Dooku could reach it as a Jedi, I think that Maul could do that as either, Sith Lord or a... Nightbrother (under Talzin). But his mother died, and after his failure on Naboo he lost a possiblity to became a master under a Sidious teachings. Pitty, coz he was fueled with the dark side like Dooku could only dream to be. I see his prime in eihter, TPM or SoD. Depends. Skill and knowledge goes to Dooku. And it's not even close. Look how effortlessly Dooku deflected his own lightning, while being surprised by it. His lighning stuned Anakin for a nice couple of seconds, perhaps minutes even. Enraged, he owned Ventress and two other nightsisters by it. Maul could perhaps do a Force push with a smilar raw power, but for Dooku it was much easier. His mastery enable him to do that without much of a focus. While Maul needed to release his anger, Dooku could to a stonger attacks whenever he wanted. Overall, I see a combination of Dooku raw power and skill as clearly superior to Maul's. But Maul's inner darknes, the way that the dark side fueled him might make him tmporary Dooku's equal or superior. For a short ammount of time. Physicals goes to Maul, but the gap isn't that big. While Maul was almost like killing machine, Dooku was also at human's peak. Not when we comper him to Anakin, but if we compare him to Obi-Wan... Dooku was faster, his kicks were much more devastating. To be honest, Dooku has a one of the best showings in that category. He effortlessly kicked Ventress in their duel. Dooku's pshysical attacks seems to be much harder for Obi-Wan... then Anakin's for example. In his final fight with Anakin and Obi-Wan, he was still able to stun Anakin with a simple kick, while Anakin could't do the same with his flying kick (that one from their last fight in ROTS). If you would read me the description of "shatterpoint" I would say that every Dooku's physical attack had to be supported by it. Coz Dooku always hitted those critical points. And many times did better, even despite the fact, that he poosesed inferior strenght. Perhaps it's another thing for him i na Force category. I'm not saying that he mastered a shatterpoint nor that he used it. He might jest be as... well, he probably was a natural figher, with natural instincts, which - supported by his great raw power in the Force - was deadly. At the end of the day, Maul had superior stamina, strenght, equal or a bit superior agility, equal or a bit inferior speed. Fighting technique... Well, it's unlike the Force. Maul had much more options and is more well-rounded. Pitty for him, that Dooku is a master duelist. If he would not be, even with all of his advantage in the Force, Maul's own strenght and skills would lead him to a victory - just a harder then against Jinn. But Dooku was a fencer, fencer more powerful in the Force then Maul. While Maul Theras Kasi was on a highest level, his hunter's instincts were top as well, while he was killing machine... Dooku was well designed to beat that machine. While Maul could use his raw power by using a Juyo, dealing with that was all that Dooku was prepering himself for. While Maul's mastery made every part of his body a weapon, Dooku less trained body could be as deadly, only because his fencer's nature enable him to find those necesarry points. And it would be even easier to find them, when Maul would let his emotions drive him. I don't think, that Dooku would mock a floor with Maul. Maul would be very dangerous opponent for Dooku, and if Dooku would gain an advantage, but somehow would be unable to end a fight instantly, that could drive Maul crazy and enabled him to gain a temporary upper hand. Dooku still should be able to find a openings and use them, but Maul could take an advantage in a few scenarios. But only after he would be pissed off. Like he was after Savage's death. Still, a solid majority for Dooku in my oipinion. 7 or 8 out of 10. And I'm writting as Dooku's fan.
