Darth Maul is my favorite character in Star Wars and with how he came back in several shows. I agree with several of these statements, Maul during TCW was quite a big threat for Obi-Wan that he fled in the 2v2 match. People sleep on Maul too much saying he’s just an assassin and he’s not that powerful and yet he faced Obi-Wan multiple times, and even faced Mace Windu and Aayla Secura at the same time which is a highly impressive feat and even poses a threat to Darth Sidious. Mace Windu would most likely beat Maul but the fact that he faced him and Aayla at the same time proves he’s about Dooku level since I’m convinced Mace was superior than him. The Maul vs Ahsoka fight was a duel where Maul was never going in for the kill and several sources claim this. Darth Maul even fought on the defense several times which he never does which proves he was holding back. In Rebels he’s past his prime but is still a highly dangerous fighter towards many swordsmen. The Kanan fight was indeed a plot armor one but I guess I will buy the claim that the force was guiding him. His final duel with Kenobi doesn’t mean Maul’s weak, it shows how prepared Ben Kenobi was since he saw this fight coming and he knew which attack Maul would use on him.
@@KeyIssues How powerful is Kanan? Because someone else believes that Kanan in season 3 of Rebels is at a higher level than Maul instead of acknowledging that Maul lost due to Plot induced stupidity.
So glad to see this vid finally come out. So many people underestimate Maul and even believe Grevious to be close if not superior to him even though all his "Losses" have great context to them.
@@KeyIssues That's exactly what I've been saying lol. Maul never ran from a fight unless someone like Savage was injured, Grevious ran at every opportunity and he only killed Mother Talzin when she was occupied with Palpatine and Dooku😭

I was totally geeking out when I saw him come back in the Clone Wars and he's totally been my favorite sith since! Many will quickly turn to Dooku using force lightening. Yet Vader never uses force lightening in canon either and few would say that Dooku is superior to Darth Vader. Maul gets so underestimated.
Dooku as a Jedi was in the top 3 always being compared to Yoda and Mace who are both a tier above Maul. Then he became stronger when he learned the dark side and has bodied Kenobi and Anakin multiple times which Maul seems to always has a hard time trying to beat. Dooku with his force lightning is probably the least of Maul’s worries. Dooku is a better duelist, more experienced, more level headed and arguably stronger in the force.
Darth Vader used to be my favorite, but watching Maul's journey after his return, he's clearly the superior Sith. He even did what Vader failed to do, become his own man. He went from being Sidious's apprentice to becoming a crime lord and shadow ruler of Mandalore
Sidious also brought and sparked TWO lightsabers to fight Maul when he only used 1 against Fisto, Windu, Tiin and Kolar. Showing he thought of Maul as a bigger threat than all 4 Jedi Masters.
sidious sparked two to fight both of the brothers and used a fighting style best suitable against them. as he also did against the 4 jedi when he also got overpowered by windu. maul is great but in no way is stronger than windu

When Sidious called Maul his young apprentice it wasn't just because Sidious was old and he was younger but Maul was 22 years old during TPM and was 3 years younger than Obi-Wan Kenobi.
I would like to address that Maul (in a deleted sequence which is however canon) managed to break Sidious' natural force shield without any problems; indicating that Maul is not too far away from Sidious in force power either (SoM). In addition, Maul's power was so immense that even as a child, he was the superior choice to Talzin and natural future Sith Grandmaster after Sidious' time (Pre Ep 1). Take that, add the amount of rare force abilities Maul has ( molecular manip, gravity manip, deadly sight, etc. ) and consider his intelligence ( being able to unite syndicates, build a criminal empire that rivaled the two main factions as well as 'out-Battle-Iquing' Dooku and Grievous, then you have an absolute unit that was still hindered by things like: 13 years living as a spider, exile, cut in jalf, etc.)

It really erks me when people write write off darth maul as some kinda second rate villain, sure he wasn’t as explosively in tuned with the force like vader and sidious but he was far above average. His arrogance was his biggest weakness not his abilities, he just pulled all his power into his body to amplify his physical abilities making him a force to be reckoned with in lightsaber duels. But that doesn’t mean his outward abilities were completely lacking, sure we don’t see him shooting lightning but in the clone wars show he moved a huge space ship like 6x bigger than a tie fighter when he needed to, and I believe had he given the effort he could have learned lightning, maybe not like sidious but dooku level at the very least.
Such a god tier video that Garrick just made Maul my favourite SW character alongside Luke … granted it’s only two spots up but Vader and Obi are top tier af.
I adore Darth Maul he’s probably the best written character in the clone wars series and he’s always been one of my favorite Sith Lords. Obi-Wan Kenobi is my favorite character though and I really want to see what his scale in power is in comparison to Maul and everybody else. Any chance you could do a video on him next my guy?
The one thing I'll say is that Maul is never able to conjure Force Lightning. This is probably due to the fact that the majority of his training focused on becoming an incredibly formidable duelist and well, it paid off. I believe that had Maul killed Obi Wan without toying with him, Sidious would've had begun to develop his Force powers.
Also while i wont know until i get through the vid, my thought on why hes so powerful but loses so often is because his mindset makes him prone to losing. Just as Vader's mindset makes him destined to be conflicted and self loathing, Maul's mindset made him destined to be self defeating and arrogant in his moments of victory. And he only realizes this at the very end, after Ben Kenobi struck him down in seconds.
I think a few of your arguments are a little disingenuous. Vader comparing that fighting style to sidious's is probably because sidious trained maul in lightsaber combat and not because she necessarily rivals him. Maul being able to kill clones when the Jedi couldn't in order 66 isn't good enough of a feat to bring up since the Jedi would've been completely caught off guard at their allies turning against them while it was just another Tuesday for maul. There's a lot of feats putting Vader on a level above maul and claiming maul wasn't in his right mind against obi wan in rebels while not pointing out Vader was the same way against ahsoka is pretty fallacious. I also think it would've been better for you to elaborate more on count dooku's scaling (feats statements stuff like that) to get a more concrete analysis on where they should scale to one another, it seemed like you cherry picked a bit in that segment. I do however think your analysis of obi wan and maul's scaling was well thought out and in depth which I appreciate
1. I didn't make that claim. I just said he was very good at training Qi'ra to the point she could contend with Vader. 2. Many Jedi had the opportunity to fight and survive but died with their lightsabers in hand. Not all were caught completely off-guard. 3. Vader IS in his right mind when fighting Ahsoka. It's stated by Filoni himself. 4. This isn't a Dooku video.
@@KeyIssues point was her being good at fighting and having a similar style to sidious is specifically because maul was trained by sidious and would have a similar style which was the main point of what I said. it's been stated numerous times that towards the end of the clone wars the jedi's abilities and mental states were clouded by the dark side and even if some Jedi fought back it's disingenuous to argue they wouldn't be mentally prepared for what happened. Filoni said that Vader was actively trying to kill ahsoka because he felt she was a threat due to being a reminder of Anakin, Vader is not very sound of mind during many instances where something or someone reminds him of Anakin as his perception of his new and old identity cause him to be conflicted. I never stated it was supposed to be a dooku video but there's evidence that makes your claims of maul's blatant superiority to dooku pretty contentious which is why I thought it wouldn't been better to bring those statements and feats up to prove your point better
@@artofcujo You're argument for Vader not being in the right state of mind while fighting Ashoka i feel is very weak. If Filoni himself stated Vader was attempting to kill ashoka and he showcased no feelings of confliction but simply rage, (Which is common for Vader all the time), then simply assuming he was conflicted based on no statements or anything proving otherwise is very weak imo.
@@jasonsjustbetter2037 I don't mean conflicted in the sense that he doesn't have the resolve to kill ahsoka, but in the sense that whenever Vader gets reminded of Anakin (through instances like this where he sees someone close to him from his past) his state of mind changes to an extent due to him not thinking as rationally due to his anger. We see instances in the comics where his old feelings and his reaction to snuff them out when coming in contact with shit from his past causes him to act and think differently from how he does normally, and at one point he even flat out betrays palpatine by letting one of padme's body doubles go because of his past connections. There's simply more instances where reminders of Vader's past life as Anakin causes him to think and act differently than there are instances otherwise. A way better example is in the Kenobi show where Vader is basically bloodlusted the entire time because he's consumed with killing Kenobi and killing one more link to his past

The sad thing about maul was that we never got to see his full potential of him and i think maybe he could be more powerful then darth sidious if he didn’t get cut in half. Darth Maul was a true apprentice of palpatine ( not like count dooku )that if he lasted longer he may been able to kill him but after anakin was introduced to seen, maul was going to be replaced no one had more potential then the chosen one. And that even without training for around a decade he was so strong is amazing The one thing I disagree with the take that obi wan was weaker in there 1st fight there are many variables that could affect how obi wan didn’t do as well, such as fighting his masters killer. In the end tho the reason obi wan won so many of his duals isn’t because he had the most power or the most potential it was because he was so smart and calm in his fight’s, I think a lot of people don’t understand that. Both obi wan and darth maul are my top 2 favourite characters so thank you for making a great video on maul and could you make a video on obi wan, please. Honstely Maul wouldve still lost if he found Obi-wan the first day he landed he wouldve been facing a Master who has long since commenced his journey to becoming 1 with the force the duel wouldve probably been alot longer but ended the same with Maul seeing the chance to kill him just like his master except he was facing a foe who long since forgave and forgot this foe and cuts him down honorably
In the old canon he was described as being the best sith duelist in canon even surpassing sidious since sidious was a force heavy user. He also crafted two perfect synthetic crystals far beyond the quality of most sith. But Disney through all that in the garbage.
i admire the research you did with this. all good points. btw i never saw the significance of dooku going for obi wan and tiplee before now, well done pointing that out. it should be factored in too that aayla secura is more boastworthy than previously thought after she has been depicted in a comic early this year duelling ventress to a stalemate.

Sith were always meant to be much stronger than the jedi considering the power. In TPM Maul had the upper hand against a jedi master and his apprentice together but later on he even gets defeated by normal jedi. They nerfed him more and more over time, especially when Disney took over. George Lucas had even planned to have Maul as the main antagonist in the sequels. As an apprentice of Sidious, the sequels could have been perfect with his return. Dave Filoni sometimes lacks George Luca's vision
Sith don't just train anyone in there ways Sedious saw something in Maul to would want to even spend valuable time training him hard the way he did.....That should tell star wars fans enough where his potential is.
Filoni said something like that Maul could dispatch Kenobi but to what extend, Kenobi could be Force ghost similar to how it happened with Vader vs Kenobi

I think that it is also important to note that Dooku should be weaker at the end of the clone wars than he was at the start. As he is only getting older which isn't helped by the dark side degradation he suffers. Does this make AOTC Dooku stronger than Maul? I don't know. But i feel is important to note. But this is a great video reguardless.
Dooku learnt how to use the darkside on his own, his sith alchemy which he learnt from sidious is in the same league as maul but the latter was the most trained sith in the orders history. Quigon and mace were roughly in the same league as jedi/sith dooku, maul has beaten both Jedi once during tpm and son of dathomir.
I think personally if Maul reached his full potential and didn’t get his legs cut off he would definitely be more powerful then Sidous . I think that he will become a beast with night sister Magic’s combined with his sith force etc .. definitely quite OP and super Uber ! Remember Lucas’s original plans he wanted darth maul to be the next sith lord and ruler after sidious and darth talon as his apprentice who is like Vader. Whereby Luke and Leila will have to battle both talon and Maul… hence Leila is the real chosen one ..
Yo orin for me i think maul losing his legs made him more powerful because of his hate for obi wan i just dont think he lost potentiel he just went a step back
@@mag8138 yeah I see , but filoni and others state that maul was still rusty and hence not as good as he once was ie a shell of his former self and Obi had more of an advantage over him but Maul still managed to get thru.
After Talzin gave him a power boost he was on Vader's level, but if he hadn't so fully let the Dark Side cloud his mind and become so hung up on petty revenge, I believe that in time, with the proper training he could have begun to approach Rick The Door Technicians level of power.

@@daunknown1684 they would have to be quite far apart, Maul with all his hubris and pride, admitted he couldn't defeat Vader ("I cannot defeat Vader alone" is what he said specifically) and Maul always tends to underestimate all his opponents, so for him to acknowledge he can't beat Vader, at least not alone would mean Vader would have to be considerably more powerful than him.
@@ObnoxiousGhast well, we have no context as to why Maul said that line. It was only implied he and Vader had fought and Maul certainly did not deem himself as victorious. However, Vader is rather not the guy that allows you to survive and Maul was still alive to tell the tale, which, provided they actually fought, implies he was at least powerful enough to walk out in one piece.
Styles make fights, if its defense is needed Obi-Wan, if its offense is needed then Maul, because they both are tier 8 according to Nick Gillard. Gillard's rankings: Tier 9: Sidious, Yoda Tier 8: Maul, Dooku, Episode 3 Obi-Wan, Mace Windu (bordering tier 9) , Episode 3 Anakin (bordering tier 9) Tier 7: Episode 1&2 Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, Kit Fisto Tier 6: Episode 2 Anakin
I think Maul could very well defeat Mace Windu in a straight forward 1v1 since even if Mace taps into the darkseid, Maul is incredibly skilled against Sidious especially in defense and the stamina difference would be crutial
I like the turn you’re taking to make more Star Wars videos. However, I do have some issues with the general scaling. Power in the Star Wars universe is just not linear. Especially in regards to the force. Anyway I’m not here to make pointed critiques I think your content is great.

just goes to show you how Dooku was (in my opinion) the hardest nerfed character from legends to canon. legends Dooku was an absolute monster when it came to not only dueling, but also force ability.

@Key Issues unless it wasn't retconned wasnt it stated sidious only trained maul like an assassin and didn't give him real sith training so he was only at a fraction of what he could have been if sidious trained him fully?
But, if Maul had more potential than Talzin, and Talzin rivals Sidious - doesnt that pretty much put Maul as potentially more powerful than Palps (Could/would become)? So why would Sidious even bother with Vader after he burned and lost about 120% of his potential? Why not just go back to Maul at that point? Lucas said Vader was 80% of Palps power; and Maul is obiously more powerful than that so, I dont get it? Maul was even the villain in Lucas original ideas for episode 7-9 so he's not dead, so we cant use that as an excuse.
Darth Maul is a sith warrior not an assassin. he just happened to perform assassinations occasionally as do a lot of sith like Palpatine and Plageuis but that does not make them specifically of the Sith Assassin teachings

Eh, not sure between Maul and Dooku. Maybe because of Dookus age Maul would have an advantage but i think a younger and in his prime Dooku could take Maul. Dooku, even at his advanced age, fought Yoda to a draw. I know had they continued Yoda ultimately would have win but that is still very impressive considering Yoda was the best Jedi duelist of his time. I personally think Dooku was slightly better as a duelist then Windu. In fact i would say Dooku is one of the best pure duelists of all time. I think only Vader, Yoda and Sideous (probably Luke too) are above him but i think he could hang with anyone else. He made Obi Wan look like a chump twice so hes definitely a beast.
Who wins ahsoka vs maul. I think it's ahsoka, since she went up against a prime buffed vader and performed very well. A vader old man obi wan lost too and old man obi wan defeated maul easily. Ahsoka and maul also performed equally against inquisitors in my book. Thank you and I love your content. Also Please make a video on how powerful is obi wan if you don't mind.
Late Clone Wars Maul is more powerful and skilled then most on even footing except against Talzin, Sidious, Dooku, Mace, Yoda, Anakin, Plo Koon, And Obi Wan yeah.
Maul lost because he was trolled by kenobi. Obi-Wan used the same stance as Qui-gon jinn. He got Maul to use the final blow he used to end the fight with Qui gon. Before kenobi killed maul you can see maul had his light saber up to hit obi-Wan’s head. Just like did to Qui-gon. Obi-wan was a master troller.
Complete rubbish. In his video "How Powerful is Cere Junda?" he states that Darth Vader is arguably the best duelist in the galaxy and his only competition is Ashoka & Darth Sidious. His statements on Darth Maul are merely over embellished. Those in the comment section need to do their research into Key Issues previous videos and read the source material.
