With some little modifications (basically a standard mount with an extra piece of old tube rubber for better fit) I attached varia light to the very top of seat tube turning it upside down (radar on top, light on bottom). Works perfectly, holds strong and just enough clearance (the same 52cm frame).

At this point people are just chatting shit, the new aluminium frames with 28mm-30mm tyres are as comfortable as carbon is. I've got a Giant TCR SL race bike and a Specialized Allex Sprint (rim brake, which is stiffer than the new Allez) and riding them back to back they are both very similar, no discernable difference in comfort when using 28mm tyres.

I crapped on this bike when you first posted it for all the usual reasons, but the riders honest self appraisal should be acknowledged. As a senior rider whose has a similar height I’d be happy to meet up with Josh and let him try riding my Ti or steel endurance frames ( Mason ) so he could really feel the difference… and 44 cm bar is def too wide for his body proportions.

@ariffau
@ariffau Год назад
If you are riding hard enough where your ribs hurt gasping for oxygen, you won’t have the luxury to notice how horrible the welds are 😆 which is exactly what a crit machine like this Allez was made to do.

Just saw a Specialized ad on Instagram showing someone crashing his Allez in a crit with the tag line "Imagine crashing 12k bike"... Lol I wonder who thinks their Allez is more crashable. If you crash an aluminum bike, it'll meet the same fate as a carbon bike too.
@VegasHyruler
@VegasHyruler Год назад
Obviously steel and titanium are more durable, but carbon is more brittle than aluminium in a direct impact, no? Or is this a falsehood that’s been spread too far and wide? Crashing aside, I’d feel better (but still “not good”) about an aluminium frame tipping over and other kinds of carelessness than I would with an even more expensive carbon frame. 🤷🏼‍♂️
@FT__Bicycling_____-sc7yv
@FT__Bicycling_____-sc7yv Месяц назад
@@VegasHyrulerwhen frames do get damaged, carbon is quite easy to repair. But an aluminum frame with special shapes is more difficult and likely impossible to make certain types of repairs that you can do with carbon
@IvanMalechko
@IvanMalechko Год назад
It’s heavy, it’s ridiculously overpriced for aluminum frame (even compared to trek emonda alr :)), smart welds are just a gimmick, crappy designed for mechanical routing… and so on and so on… but it rides awesome 😎 and after all the disadvantages I found and keep finding I would probably buy it again.

Even without slamming the stem, it has aggressive geometry.
@bonbonflippers4298
@bonbonflippers4298 Год назад
@@ayowser01 it's very aggressive. I don't know why alot of people slam the stems when you can just use the drops or the top of the hood for an aero position. Stem slamming has no benefit for non racers...its even more pointless when you are doing group rides where you can draft
@ayowser01
@ayowser01 Год назад
@@bonbonflippers4298 I owned a 2018 allez sprint so I know just how aggressive it feels. It was my first road bike, and I purchased it based on cost, looks and marketing. I wanted the dropped seat stay look at an aluminum entry point. Bikes look so much better with slammed stems, but we don't all have what Fizik would call a "snake" spinal curvature. I left my stem uncut. I even had to add a 130mm to get the right fit.
@VegasHyruler
@VegasHyruler Год назад
I explained why I slammed it in the interview. My saddle height is low enough that it gave me the right amount of drop. The bike is actually much more comfortable since I had it done.
@VegasHyruler
@VegasHyruler Год назад
Also I don’t “now want” an endurance bike. I said my next bike-probably years plural from now-would likely be one with an endurance geometry. My current distances aren’t longer than an RTI and this bike is fine for that.

I know people who have Allez bikes and also have top level frames like the SL8, fancy Factors, etc. And they say the Allez feels and rides every bit as good as them. It's just heavy. And the price... Is definitely not low. And.. this specific bike came specced totally wrong on the saddle (a big wide saddle on a small frame) and habdlebar width (again.. big wide bars on a small frame)

@bonbonflippers4298
@bonbonflippers4298 Год назад
We kind of all make mistakes buying a bike not made to be what you want it to be in the beginning. Only after riding a year and trying more than 1 type of geometry you eventually find what type of riding you want. If you can fit into a race geometry comfortably than that's great. As you get older you come to the realization that not everything is about speed,watts, looks or expectations
@aldrinclementina4297
@aldrinclementina4297 Год назад
@@bonbonflippers4298 you are right. We all learn with the time. Me myself did a bike fit before buying. But with the time you become more flexible and you can adapt to a race geometry. But exactly like you also said. When we become older if the flexibility is not there anymore , we will look for more comfortably than race posture. In my case I never stopped like quitting cycling. I had my off days but since I started again I can feel or better said I’m getting my flexibility and fitness back. (49). And knowing the most of this sport I’m still looking for perfection and asking the ones who knows more than me. Because there is always someone that knows better that you. Take care man 🤜🏽🤛🏽
