@@MagnetDznthe best? That’s debatable 😂😂 Just because he had a large following doesn’t mean he was the best. He was a great artist, but wasn’t even the best in this class. Let the man rest in peace.
@@BaldiB704nah I'd give him the same compliment Eminem gave Kendrick, he was a chameleon of styles and he executed them all flawlessly, hes made so many projects under other aliases, he's one of the greatest producers of our generation and nobody even knows how many absolute bangers he produced and he didn't even ask for money, he just liked helping other people make good music
@@BaldiB704 The best can be an opinion, many people have the personal opinion he was the GOAT and would’ve gone to do even more had he not passed. I recognize not everyone sees it that way, that’s just how I, and many of his fans, view him
Lil B is the most influential rapper on the cover .. he took over wshh, trolled the world, put a curse on James Harden and tried out for the warriors. He birthed this gen of Lil's
@@original_USA_cowgirl depends on your definition of new cuz ive been playing kendrick since at least 2019 but keep in mind, im a senior in high school
RIP Mac bro he would absolutely be up there with Kenny if his addiction didn’t change him. The growth from K.I.D.S. to Swimming was insane. He’d most definitely be on top today
Dude, a lot of his leaks dated from Late 2017-Summer 2018 are legit some of Mac's best music. He had to have had to hard time deciding what to leave out of Swimming. I wish he'd got to do the trilogy speculated to have been in the works.
@@MaidenHelllhis contract was up and he is moving now how he wants to with no one above him to control his direction or sound. Why work for someone when you can be your own boss? No Shady artist other than Em has had longevity under the imprint. 50 had a few record years, Slaughterhouse broke up under the imprint. Yela did his 4 albums and his contract was up. There have been multiple other artists i can’t even name that got signed and never went anywhere. Shady records seems like where artists go to get shelved. 50 and Yela have been the only truly successful artists to have come from Shady. Successful, different than talent. They have all had talent.
The fact that Mac was in this list is crazy. Honestly probably the reason he put so much effort in his music. Big Krit and Kendrick are no jokes to have as contemporaries.
Mac Miller’s musical evolution almost brought me to tears when I realize how much I missed out on because Loud just wasn’t for me and then hearing swimming years later Gah damn that’s what you call an artist all the way
swimming dropped in the midst of a breakup I had. Senior year high school shit it was due to my drug addiction, never thought I’d ever find anyone again lol it was pretty sad I even started doing fentanyl that November in 2018 as my Xanax bar dealer said ‘I don’t have xanax anymore I have dope though’ I’d always say no I’m good until I caved. Anyways I dropped acid the day this album dropped and it was just on repeat while I was driving around. Completely unsafe I remember being in traffic and seeing all the cars moving backwards so I put my car in reverse just to shake my head and realize I was tripping out lol. Anyways this album played for hours and hours, I did play acid rap by chance as well that was a mixtape for my generation really, but it didn’t feel right really. Swimming just hit me man I wasn’t even paying attention to it at times, I threw it on my phone while coming up on the tabs, only 90ug each I took one and another an hour later so I think it didn’t really count or do anything. The album didn’t get me through the breakup in fact my addiction spiraled at that point until I got a DUI at 18, went to my first rehab. When I heard he died I was so drunk I just didn’t even care, I mean I cared but it was more like an oh shit no way I thought he was doing better and honestly I was way too focused on putting myself in a coma every single night to be able to sleep, but it was upsetting. I live a new life now I was given a second chance after being in a coma from a drug overdose last year, I was supposed to have brain damage or be on oxygen for the rest of my life. I ended up waking up from the coma and went back to my sales job and was successful, and am still in sales. Took a little paycut, they put me on suboxone I’ve been clean for over a year now, I don’t even count the days or even realize I hit a year until I saw the date in November. Fentanyl free. My toxicology was Xanax and Fentanyl, I was also on research chemical benzos like clonazolam which my girlfriend forced me to quit thank god bc that would have fully put me out and I’d be dead for sure. Anyways I have a new life my new girlfriend doesn’t understand when I put in earbuds and listen to swimming, or faces. Only at certain times I’ll listen to it but I consider faces and swimming to be Macs ‘magnum opus’ as they call it haha. And I’m not a huge Mac fan either, 2020 till now even for me was all detroit/flint music, LA music, Mac sometimes. I never was a mega fan but he is a legend in his own right and I appreciate his contribution to not only hip hop but music in general and making music that makes me….. feel. Which I don’t like feeling lol.
@@user-du6vx7ir7mCongrats on your journey, man! I have a similar journey although I'm a bit older than you, just turned 35. I grew up with Mac. I remember Macadelic playing at parties and shit. Also, I've been off Suboxone since last October; used kratom to ween off and it honestly wasn't that bad at all. Just be careful. I had a similar experience to your Swimming on Acid one except mine was The Divine Feminine on Molly. My wife and I fell in love with Mac because of that and I'll be forever grateful for it. I've proudly been a Mac stan ever since. The music world lost a real one that September day. He was such a good, down to earth dude. He'll always be alive in my house. Stay safe, brother.
Kendrick by far was and is the best of that Freshman Class. They rightfully put him in the middle of that cover photo. So much has changed since 2011 and that was just 13 years ago.
@@cece2170 North philly Strawberry Mansion all da way, nothing realer then north philly rap. i know they beefed but Shout out Ar Ab also cuz he a real one & they came up together.
Lol Macs discography shits on everyone on the '16 list except maybe Denzel and .Paak and .Paak ain't even a rapper. Uzi might be up there too but he's been stagnant lately imo
@@codyjackson245 yeah, y’all been saying rap is declining since 2006, remember nas putting out “hip hop is dead”? So it’s been declining for almost 2 decades??? Foh 😂😂🤡🤡 be originally and different, stop listening to what your drunk uncles tell you
Mac is especially sad as it felt like he was just beginning to blossom as an artist. I think if he continued down that path he could’ve really carved out a special legacy as a creator that would’ve endured for years, and he would’ve continued to evolve
Bro this is one of the best freshman class faxts I remember being locked up an getting this same XXL issue an was lit because K.R.I.T was finally getting his jus due
I remember hearing Yela for the first time not being too impressed with the early work until Love Story right the way through to Ghetto Cowboy I've been back tracking like crazy his musical evolution has been mind blowing
@@elmokirkwood3969 what are you smoking? Have you not heard his last 4 projects? Yelawolf is at the height of his musical ability right now and has been for a long while! As good as some of his early work is and whatever you can salvage from Radioactive there is an entirely different groove he's on and it's mapped out perfectly, not to mention hes not afraid to push his limits.
2016 is the best in terms of influence and artist success. Pretty much everyone from that class is still doing numbers to this day, except for Desiigner but 'Panda' is considered a timeless classic. That whole class changed the sound of hip hop. Say what you want about those boys but they did something on that day.
Y’all really forgetting about 2010 that was the best year there was j cole,nipsey hustle,Freddie Gibbs,big Sean,jay rock,wiz khalifa so I’m taking 2010 and 2016 over 2011
Yelawolf has gotten a lot better then when he was with shady Ghetto cowboy is his best album (2019) followed by sometimes y which is actually a rock and roll album then Mud mouth I would say
@@Man_in_a_Gucci_Suit Naw. Yelawolf didn't really get better after Shady, hes always been that nice. He just put out a sub par album on Shady. Trunkuzik 0-60 is better than Radioactive. Love Story is his best work by far. Mudmouth might be bottom of the list.
2016 is better all around. Mac and Kendrick and a few others are the only ones with careers, while everyone in 2016 still has a career and is going strong. I live Kendrick, he is my favorite rapper but him mac and a few others doesn’t beat all of 2016.
@@OldBayHat lol you're just clueless about the dudes in the 2011 class, big K.R.I.T, YG, meek mill, cyhi, and lil b have all made their classics (even if Cyhi works in the shadows). Desiigner was a flop, lil dicky has been and always will be a gimmick, and Dave east and G Herbo never made too big of waves
nah, apart from Lil B it was mostly trash. this was the era where a lot of rappers started "sharing" the same kind of "sound" and the music sounds dated because of it. Kind of like Migos and mumble rap. That style will not be looked upon fondly. not because it's bad, but because it was copied and overdone.
@Pedro Esquivias No, that was 2014 until now. Rapper that came out early 2010s were way more original and creative. People seem to forget that there are different subgenres to Hip-Hop, but now, most rap music you hear today is trap or drill music. Besides, the Migos were popping like that during those years. It was like, 2015-ish
Bruh he literally gave damn near every artist he mentioned their flowers. If glazed Kendrick then he pretty much glazed everyone else lol. U Niggas r weird asf 😂
The year itself was magic. Not only great newcomers but also classic albums were released that year. Take care, cole world, tha carter IV, watch the throne, section 80, Goblin etc Exceptional year for hiphop!
