No offense, but I could feel myself tensing up and getting madder as this video went on. The title is click-bait and almost none of the points feel really valid to me. I respect your opinions, but this one really rubbed me the wrong way.
I 100 percent agree. This reviewer had a lot of bias towards the game which made me cringe. Like how he was stating about how annoying the caterpillar's talking was or how he was annoyed by the kiddish details which me, at 35 years old didn't bother me for a second
If some reason, Mario's design in Mario Wonder reminds me of Super Mario Land 2 for the Gameboy. No idea why, I just keep thinking of those sprites more than anything else!
Man I wish they brought the Koopalings back and gave each of them cool wonder effects that tied into their unique fight style. That would’ve been a great way to evolve on their formula in the past games and still keep them interesting, but instead we fight Bowser Jr. a dozen times
What sucks is that I can tell Nintendo actually put a lot of care into this game and actually truly wanted us to enjoy it insted of making another cash grab and it fell short. I really hope they dont stray from that path and im confident that the next game can be truly great.
The way I saw it is that removing player collision could potentially open them up to making more difficult levels since that is no longer a limitation but the game is somehow easier.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't like the co-op. One of my biggest gripes is the way the person with the crown calls the shots, with no options to turn that off. When I signed up to be player 3 in my younger sister's co-op session, I fully expected to be following her lead, as with any co-op 2D platformer. I'm usually player 1 in Kirby sessions for example, and I'm usually player 2 in Donkey Kong. As someone who enjoys co-op games, it's pretty much ingrained in my psyche that player 1 calls the shots. Instead, the game kept tossing the crown over into someone else's direction and so we would be on the map wondering why Florian's dialogue hasn't progressed and it turns out "oh yeah I have the crown whoops". I liked the crown in 3D World because it was just a stupid object that measured your skill, and it was funny to beat each other up over it. This is intrusive and makes the co-op not as fun when we constantly have to keep track of who's in control, and so I intentionally avoid doing stuff that would earn me more points just so it wouldn't switch.
Nitpicks a lot of small things but forgetting one big one personally for me and a lot of other people. The bosses suck in this game. It's the most uncreative part of the game by a mile. Older 2D mario games had so much more variety with koopa kids and most final bowser fights being this grand spectacle that is much better than auto scroller music jumping to the beat boss battle.
@@notfairdeletethistweet With Mario 3 and world they had massive limitations back then but people didn't care for those boss battles. You know what came directly out of World? Yoshi's Island which still has the best boss battles in gaming history. Nintendo learned that having good bosses makes the experience of the game much better. Wonder was selling us that they would have a new fresh experience nearly every level with creative level, enemies and environments but the bosses really missed the mark of that creativity that the other parts of the game had plenty of.
@@therandomguy2212 New Super Mario Bros is different since they are basically rehash reflections of NES game with multiplayer built around it. Though Wii new super Mario had one of the best final Bowser battles of all time. Wonder did a lot of amazing level designs and very fun ideas of new game elements. Just sad they went back to very boring boss designs. I can say at least New Super Mario on the Wii had a wayyy better boss fight using level design with a way scarier threat for the player.
As someone who has played though half of the game, only on coop I find the most annoying thing to be the crown which is completely fine when I’m playing with my brother because of how we play being so similar but the minute you add other people who play the game differently it changes, lots of deaths due to the crown player being behind everyone else or them being way to ahead. I also don’t like how it changes depending on who did something for example get a wonder seed or get the highest on the flag, and this making them basically player 1 in a sense meaning the host losing control over dialogue and the world to play in, because of this I prefer how the older new Mario bros games did it where is was the person furthest was the one it would follow.
You do realize dying when playing with more then one player is not a issue right? its meant to be challenging more with others.. your meant to die in a game sometimes if it was 1 player its like easy mode
@@Egood_tyit’s not about dieing because someone it bad, but the fact they are dieing due to different play styles, for example me and my brother play very fast while my sister plays a lot slower and you could say let her play as nabit or yoshi but the then she can just run ahead while we are struggling to get past the enemies, also if she is playing as nabit and has the crown and is farther behind it becomes a struggle for the normal players to stay alive and come closer so she can get though.
There are things we take for granted like player collision or the koopalings. "No one likes bumping into each other." "The koopalings are used too much." Nintendo: We hear you all. We will get rid of all these problems. We now have a locked camera with no player collision and all the bosses are now Bowser. Jr. Why couldn't they take notes from the FIRST GAME? Every castle boss was original and appropriately themed to that specific world.

my biggest pet peeve with this game is that they removed the controls: x for dash and y for jump, wich would be fine because the other games are meant to be played with y for dash and b for jump. except that theres NO WAY TO TURN IT BACK. in fact, they barely give you any control options at all, its either y/dash and b/jump or b/dash and a/jump. and thats IT. we should have the system where you scroll down the list of actions paired with buttons. press confirm on the button/action (for example b/dash) then press the button you WANT it to be, like x. and its now (x/dash) :)
The worst part about this game is that I often forget it even exists. There just wasn’t much that stuck out to me. It seemed like another NSMB game with some new gimmicks and power ups.
basically my opinion. it's not trash it just seems like NSMB with gimmicks. i couldn't get into it. not a fan of the art either, its too zany and this is from someone who plays cruelty squad

I think that the reason player collision and stuff like that was removed it's because lots of people complained about it in the New Super games. Same goes for a lot of other features, people really didn't care much for those games so I think that Nintendo just wanted to make sure this game didn't feel like an NSMB game lol!!
Collision and the ability to bounce off each other's heads really made the old games feel cooperative and created some interesting situations. My siblings and I would spend a large portion of our play time throwing each other off cliffs back in the day. It's sad to hear that they removed that feature.
that was some of the most fun I had with the older games! We'd be working as a team and then all of a sudden my devil horns would pop out and it's friendly fire time!
Eh they were very annoying at times though too, like trying to get to the end of the levels with us all on Yoshis, and I speak from experience as me and my siblings played NSMBWii like last year or so and the collision could be annoying at times.
it sucks. why they got rid of all the cool power ups for a stupid slow elephant. the art style is nice but yoshi on easy mode pure idiocrisy. but once i beat bowser i felt no need to rewind and 100% everything. shame because the trailer looked so good
Are you sure that you're not finding this game easy because you got better at 2D Mario during your NSMBU playthrough? The fact that everyone else is having trouble makes me wonder if these games are actually getting easier or if you're just used to 2D Mario. Personally I stopped finding 2D Mario hard after NSMB DS, so all those reviews going "NSMBWii is SO HARD!" made me question what was going on.
@@BulletBarry Yeah, the more you play, the harder it's gonna be to get really brickwalled by Nintendo-made Mario levels. There's a cap to how hard Nintendo can make the levels, otherwise the noobs would throw the game out the window. At some point, you're gonna have to get into romhacks or Mario Maker if you want those levels that take hours of work to beat.
You uh... struggled with new super mario bros u and knuckles featuring dante from devil may cry? I didnt at all and struggled with the special world of wonder. Also i personally dont like the elephant the only reason being i want to look at the character i picked instead of an elephant. Also MORE CHARACTERS? ARE YOU INSANE? but i agree with the yoshi thing. Dont mind nanbit, though Edit: the flag thing is especially a problem for 3d world.
I played this game with my friend a few weeks ago in co-op and he just wasn't vibing with it, I'm not sure if he's just nostalgia blind for NSMBWii or just thinks the game isn’t fun but I definitely found it really interesting
maybe it is due to being blinded with nsmbwii and u (i have the same problem so i should know) but there are a few problems this game lacks compared to the new series and there are things that makes this game unreplayable for me
BIG emphasis on the lack of challenge. I REALLY wanted to play the Final Final level but the game was so easy I died twice in my entire playthrough, both on one level I had already fully cleared. I had literally no desire to replay any of these levels because at this point they were closer to cutscenes than to a challenge to unlock a final level. Also I gotta disagree on your take on the badges, while I also never utilized more than a handful of the badges, the variety of movement based badges added a lot of personal flare, as basically everyone I've seen playing the game had a different personal favorite badge.
Honestly, I am convinced that youtubers who rage bait like this either hate all video games or just lie outright to compel people to consume their mediocre youtuber slop. RU-vidrs like this purposely try to manipulate people into watching their lazily written reviews by exaggerating their disdain toward critically aclaimed products.
At first people were saying that this game was amazing, to the point of it being a GOTY nominee. Now all of a sudden it sucks? What is this, the Sonic the Hedgehog fanbase? 😂 (although they change their opinions way faster)
Super Mario Bros. Wonder "sucks", eh? Hmmmmmm. Well, having played the game to 100% completion, I can understand some of your issues. The badges is one complaint I sort of agree with. Sometimes I like to put on the rhythm jump or quick dash, but otherwise I don't see it as a huge game changer. You pointed out how you don't like the text from Prince Florian. Mmm, I kinda understand that, but I say that it helps give Wonder a bit more oomph to its story. In the next 2D Mario, I'd love to see the Koopalings speak in a similar fashion. Despite the nuanced tone of this video, I imagine that the thumbnail alone will elicit some anger from Mario Wonder fans. I can only picture the reactions on Twitter... I see Wonder as a 9/10 game, but find each of the four NSMB games as _slightly_ superior. Interesting video, to be sure.
I find it funny when people complain about wonder being too easy and act like world and 3 are dark souls difficulty. Died no less than 10 times in world and 3 of those times were just me being stupid. Only failed 2 levels in the special world twice and beat every other level in the special world first try. Also beat mario 3 and only died 5 times. Older mario were hard at some points but to act like you have to be on you toes is something i did not see. Being easy is not a valid critique as if the game can still hold your interest then its fine which wonder does. If easy makes a game bad then the kirby series sucks and everyone wrong for liking it right. Other than that great video
There’s a big difference between easy and being absolutely brain dead. In other Mario games you still have to pay attention to what’s going on or you can get hit. Wonder is the kind of game where most levels can be beaten while half asleep and it’s not very engaging for a lot of people after a while.
When was the last time you played any of the New Super Mario Bros. games? You compare wonder and the New Soup series a lot here, and im curious because most of the things you bring up (lame powerup, lack of challenge, having to repeat levels for 100%, poor selection of characters) are way worse issues in the previous 2D entries. It seems like a lot of your issues come from you not experimenting, because the movement in this game is crazy thanks to the variety of badges and the bubble flower in particular. Player collision should have been a setting though, I'll give you that.
If Mario maker 2 online wasn’t a laggy mess, it would be the ultimate 2D coop platform. No matter how good of a connection you have, to play professionally online is impossible
I liked watching this video, it was quite entertaining. The only complaint I have is that it wasn't long enough, because you're the kind of person I could listen to talk about random stuff for hours.

My problem with the game is that it's too easy, lacks any sort of side mode and is too short. New Soup DS has Mario vs. Luigi, the Minigames and the Minigame Coop New Soup Wii has Coin Battle and Free-For-All as well as watchable bonus movies New Soup U has the Coin Battle, Boost Rush, and Challenges as well as the New Super Luigi U and lastly New Soup 2 has the Coin Rush DLC, which are completely new levels made for the game. Mario Wonder is very cool and creative, however there's a lot of things that make the vanilla game easy, from things like levels to the wonder effects making you invincible, even ones you wouldn't expect like the Swim in Lava one.
Idk, maybe the main story itself is easy but I found the special world challenges, especially the every single badge level, to be pretty difficult- and even if you find getting through the level only slightly harder, getting every collectible in levels such as the special jump jump jump level is a pretty good challenge
@@scaraptor2106 the thing about collectables is you no longer have to collect them and beat the level. If you collect them and die you keep what is collected.
Man it's sad to see the utter shambles this channel is in. I loved the 2017-18 era of console peasant quotes, the "x is a true service", and even "barry stories" (especially barry stories where your life advice was incredible for me) where you really opened my eyes and made me a much more open minded person, it was a really formative series for me. I also liked the van restoration videos but it started feeling like everything was going downhill at that point. Sure, you don't have to keep doing the same thing if you don't feel like it - personally I would have loved a barry stories style of video but with footage from you van trips, but you really lost footing and it shows. Still, I hope this is just a bump in the road and you'll soon find footing with something you are really passionate about again. Don't take this the wrong way, this isn't some gratuitous criticism and looking at your most popular videos, I see the steam deck SSD one is doing really well and it's up there with what you used to do here. To me you've always been a PC first, consumer first channel taking down corpo and fanboy bullshit and trying to educate new or uninformed pc and console users, as well as a healthy balance with personal stories and experiences. Again it doesn't have to be the same thing as before - you can make different things and maybe this is the direction you want to take the channel moving forward but it shows you are struggling to get a foothold and the videos have been generic lately, so maybe a more thought out smoother transition might have been better. The sudden whiplash from pc gaming to random chinese cheapo accessories to chinese cheapo ebikes is what alienated me. Even though I have no idea how youtube works, my advice is to sit down and really distill those old videos into the essence of what made them special and try to channel it through whatever new content you wish to pursue.

There are a few review videos I need to finish up that I've held onto for way too long but after that, it's gonna be cpq style vids, true service style vids, fun, energetic and storytelling vids! I guess since Wario's too busy making minigames and Nintendo still thinks everyone hates Waluigi, they saw no reason to put them in the game. Also, adding Rosalina as a playable character would've been awesome. And I'm not just saying that because she's my favorite Mario character.
Hot Take, Its kind of Very Easy, like Baby Easy, I wish it was more like SMW tbh, I very much do like the style dont get me wrong. But What I dont like is the Wonder Flower Gimmick, Its in every level, I like the platforming but the music is kind of repetitive and the badges make the game even easier if it already wasnt enough. Basically I 100% Agree With Your Opinion and You deserve all these views 👍
Fantastic review couldn't have explained it better. The lack of connectivity with the multiplayer and the game being so easy besides about 3 levels really makes me prefer all of the New Super Mario Bros games a lot more than this
No game is perfect but that doesn't mean Super Mario Bros Wonder is bad. And you can see that in the sales Mario Wonder sold more than 13 million. To put that in perspective Spiderman 2 came out on the same day and sold less and that's not even counting the game budget. seriously sony 300 million
Having not played the game, but watched several runs of it, the Wonder Flowers seem to be the 'applause' sign in a live studio audience, like Nintendo thinks its players are brain dead.
As someone who has a dad who "had to endure the tv and the movie seas" (aka pirating movies and modifying tvs) i fully support pirating (I know the video isn't about pirating)
In terms of reinventing 2D Mario this is a huge step. They tried to finally give as much attention, as they give to their 3D games, to their 2D ones. Some of the stuff you said sound like nitpicks but it does bring a point that some of the stuff they added were unnecessary and slow down the gameplay so they can remove that and focus on other parts of the game experience instead
I definitely saw this as a big show and I enjoyed it! It was content just as much as it was an interactive title. Lots of flare and at times it felt like the flare was a bit too heavy. Overall though, this game is great!
You forgot to mention: 1: All the bosses are Bowser jr and the final boss is stupid easy. We needed the koopalings. 2. In the New super Mario bros games if you wanted to speedrun the game and skip worlds you can do that. In wonder you must beat every world besides special to beat the game.
Ik click bait is the RU-vid style. But maybe make the title more like “I loved Mario Wonder, But it’s not perfect” or something than something you didn’t even say in the video. Oh, come on super Mario wonder is literally the most original 2-D Mario since 2006 the reason why I say that is because after the release of the original new, super Mario Bros, the 2-D Mario series, got really scale and boring this game brought back the creativity from the old games
Look guys. i understand criticising this game can be a bit shallow cuz of how amazing it is, but ignoring its flaws will only put a bad eye on fans of this game and ppl will continue to defend the flaws even if it makes fans of the other games unhappy. i love new soup games because of their simple platforming. and the lack of text bubbles and variety of power ups (Specifically Wii and U) makes up for that. Yall need to at least watch the full video even if it hurts to accept an opinion on something yall love. trust me i feel that way with the new soups game but it seems ppl who havent grew up with the games tend to have the same harsh opinions on them :/

Classic youtuber just playing the engagement game. Too bad not everybody wants to play No mention of the bosses surprised me because they are vidual melatonin. I agree with most of the criticism towards the end of the video except lack of unuque powerups and the flagpole requirement. Getting top of the flag really gets you nothing, so its not a big deal if you do it or not. Unlike 3d world, the final final level isn't lpcked behind it, its purely for bragging righys, easy bragging rights at that. Wonders powerups feel refreshing because for once in a 2d mario game its not flight based. They all sort of change how you move and interact with the level but they don't let you just fly over things. In previous mario games you weren't flying in levels all the time, but if the player was guven the oppurtunity, they can and did abuse the power of flight. I think having zero flight based powerups backed the game designers in a corner and forced them to think if more interesting level design ideas that hadn't been done before
The game was fun but every nintendo game especially on switch i have the feeling it could have bin way better. Like they not putting full effort on the games anymore
how so? this is the take i see most nowadays about 'missed potential' in basically every game, but it mostly comes off as there's minor nitpicks/subjective things that people want to change to what they specifically want I mean especially for Wonder, you're saying they're not putting in as much effort as they used to? Before this it was the same game 4 times over lol
