Molly hit the nail on the head. Even growing up with the prequels I always saw the point of ROTJ as a son saving his father, but added to that, it had the responsibility of being the film that ended a saga of six, three of them having established Palpatine as the main villain and source of all conflict, his defeat tying it all together in the end. Does Episode 9 makes Anakin's story less fulfilling or pointless? No, not at all. Does it do that to the ending of the saga? Imo, just a little bit. It unties that round ending a little to introduce a bad plot that I don't think culminates in an as satisfying of an ending to the overall saga (I think it could've worked better if planned like Palpatine was in the prequels, but that's another topic).

Seeing as the Empire would probably still be around if Palpatine wasn't *killed, then I'd say Anakin's sacrifice was not for nothing. 30 years of liberation from fascism is very much something. Yes the Empire returned, but Luke, the person Anakin saved, then taught Rey and saved the Resistance, who go on to defeat Palpatine and the First/Final Order, respectively. Anakin's sacrifice is what allows the victories of Ep. 9.

@kevind3974
@kevind3974 3 года назад
Different method. The Jedi order would have never alowed him to take care of his mother. Be it for protection or just as a way to use his money and power to give her a comfortable life. I love the Positivity but I can't agree. I really think it ruins his sacrifice. Yes, the crux was saving his son, but the arc the prequels created is predicated on Palpatines defeat. It feels so meaningless knowing he comes back. It doesn't ruin anything for me - mostly because I regard 9 was a weird ass fanfiction movie - but I still think its the single poorest decision made in the recent movies

Even though the reason Anakin turned back was to save his son that doesn't mean there weren't larger things at play here. Q&A: When Maul told Ahsoka he had orchestrated "all this" to bring Anakin to him, was he referring to the Siege of Mandalore specifically, or his entire Mandalore campaign during The Clone Wars?
@dirtyluna5701
@dirtyluna5701 3 года назад
Well the answer to that is quite clear: He was referring to the Siege of Mandalore, as he only orchestrated it because of his vision ("dream", as Almec put it) about Anakin Skywalker being "the key to everything". He only recieved said vision several weeks before the Siege of Mandalore, which he then caused to lure Anakin and Obi-Wan out. Maul had other reasons for the Mandalore campaign before that, i.E. assuming power in the galaxy and becoming a credible threat to the Jedi and also to impress his old master Sidious whom he secretly wanted to let him be his Sith apprentice again. I hope this answered your question.

Q/A: How long/far would Luke have fallen if he slipped off the bottom of Cloud City, given that Bespin is a Gas Giant?
@DanBen07
@DanBen07 3 года назад
Wiki canon "The planet Bespin was a gas giant that was about 118,000 kilometers in diameter. Like most gas giants, it had a solid core made of metal (in this case, rethin, 6,000 kilometers in diameter) followed by layers of metallic gases. Most of the layers of gas were poisonous, and the pressure and temperature were far above what a Human could tolerate. Despite this, from approximately 150 to 180 kilometers down from space there was a 30 kilometer thick habitable layer known as the Bespin Life Zone. This layer had an oxygen atmosphere with temperature and pressure suitable for Human life. It was in this layer that Cloud City was located. As with many gas giants, Bespin had a number of moons. Bespin had a twelve-hour day, and completed a revolution around its star approximately once every fourteen standard years. Bespin's fauna included the winged Tibannucks,velkers,rawwks, the gas-filled beldon, and airborne algae sacks. Bespin was the type class of the Bespin-class gas giant."

Haha "@@tomn6800" They're all suggestions based on absolutely NO preceding evidence at all lol invoking the Death Penalty, as if we've ever seen anybody, let alone a former Jedi gone, "Rogue," receiving such a consequence after being arrested by the Republic forces, and all these suggestions of "flashbacks," as if that's even a thing that happens in Star Wars at all, ever. I believe the only, "flashbacks," in Star Wars, either live-action or animation, happened in the Mandalorian. Once with The Mandalorian himself, while his new armor was being made, and again in the second season when Cobb Vanth was telling him the tale of how he acquired his Beskar from the Jawas, after being run out of town by bandits and returned to take the place back, that whole sequence. In fact, people mention things happening and characters making reappearances in "flashback," form all the time, it seems. Even though it's literally NEVER been something that's happened in any Star Wars content ever. (Prior to the Mandalorian, of course.) My question was obviously meant as; "Did Alex and Mollie believe that we'd ever see Barriss Offee again like, in the flesh? Animated or Live-action, not including, "flashbacks," because obviously, characters have NEVER been known to make reappearances in "flashbacks," in Star Wars ever, in the first place so, I didn't mention it even as a possibility, because based on past events, I didn't think I'd have to." You know what I mean?! If "flashbacks" were even a thing, I suppose I could understand somebody making the suggestion lol but, something doesn't become a possibility until it's been demonstrated to actually belong among the list of potential possibilities to begin with. Which, until the Mandalorian, "flashbacks," have NOT. (I'm just sayin' 🤜💥🤛)

I honestly don’t know how anyone can say it doesn’t ruin the ending of Return of the Jedi? For 6 movies, Palpatine plots as a Senator to take over the galaxy and it all comes full circle in the Throne Room with his apprentice and his son. Yes, Luke and Vader’s redemption is a huge part of the ending, but Palpatine dying is just as important. You have to look at the context of the whole story and everything that happens is because of Palpatine. Anakin never becomes Vader if it weren’t for Palpatine. The galaxy doesn’t crumble if it weren’t for Palpatine. Palpatine’s death in Episode 6 is the end of that story. I like The Rise of Skywalker as a movie, but to bring him back was utterly ridiculous.

Well he didn't know how to do it in ROTS yet though, right? Maybe he learnt it over the years before Vader betrayed him, but I still feel him coming back wasn't the greatest idea.

@@SWFT_edits Yeah. I would have preferred (instead of Palpatine and the Final Order) that the Sith Eternal had perfected the Snoke Clones that Palpatine set up and had an army of Force Sensitive soldiers. That way Palpatine is still in the plot, doesn't need to be alive to have importance, and Rey and Kylo still have a common enemy to fight. But whatev, the movie's already made and it's not any worse than Attack of the Clones or Clone Wars (Theatrical).

@@kenji6492 I think the whole film just needed a different story alltogether. It's not worse than the Clone Wars film but I think it's a bit worse than AOTC. RE using stun settings: Most of the time they're trying to be stealthy and I think that the stun settings are a quieter way to take out enemies. The guns fire quieter, there's no screams of pain plus no structural damage (which can become loud).

Question: Am I the only SW fan that doesn't believe Anakin should've been a force ghost after "killing" Palp? To me Anakin is no Jedi. Jedi don't kill. He literally hacked down children. His blade should've turned red based on the blood shed by innocent children he cut down. He also killed Padme when he started turning to the darkside because of his immaturity of not understanding life and death. He also doesn't understand what love is. In my opinion his "love" of Padme seems more like a possessive "love". Granted, there's a bit of blame to be shared with the Jedi since we all know the Jedi teachings are pretty flawed. In my opinion, not that it matters really, Anakins "redemption" is a bunch of Disney "happy ending" bull and I don't consider him a Jedi at all
@dlein93
@dlein93 3 года назад
I agree. I always found Anakin's "redemption" to be completely unearned. 20 years of unrepentant slaughter, destruction and oppression, to say nothing of being the lynch pin of the entire Republic's downfall, and one good act (which was still murder ftr) gets him admitted to Jedi heaven? Fanboys complain about Luke's redemption feeling unearned after like 5 years of peaceful exile then turn right around and uncritically praise Ep. 6's ending.

You do realize Star Wars is essentially a fairy tale set in space? From a realistic point of view you're completely right. But Star Wars is undeniably fantasy and not a gritty tale about war, so you gotta embrace that fantasy aspect when watching the movies.

What really bothers me about TRoS is how the idea of Balance was kind of thrown out the window. I mean, Anakin (knowingly or not) "brought it back", but it only took about 30 years for Palpatine to return. And then it was another Palpatine that finally put an end to him. Anakin's whole existence feels... lessened. He either was not the "chosen one" or the prophecy was wrong. And that's inconsistent with everything else in the SW universe. Q/A: what does the Prophecy mean? What is Balance? Did Anakin effect any real change?
@PsychoStreak

Regarding Rex, I think it's too soon for him to be a proper rebel. He's still acting as a soldier of the Republic, even though he knows it's gone. There's going to be another purge, only it'll be the clones that get wiped out, probably via their chips. Rex will try to save as many as possible, and probably fail. When that happens, he'll have to go into hiding rather than simply retire, and that will be in part because of what the Batch have done and will do. Look at the havoc just a handful of uncontrolled clones have done this season. It's annoyed Anakin level stuff. The Stormtroopers are not good enough to stop them without massive numbers, and they're relying on Clones to train them. Plus they are yet another thing Tarkin doesn't like or trust. I don't know that Crosshair will join them initially. He's too hurt of Hunter's abandoning him. He's being a bit selfish though - he knows full well what went down and how impossible it would have been to extract him, especially when his chip was still working. And now I get to watch the finally and see if I was right.

Regarding the Bad Batch and stun rounds, I was pretty disturbed when they used lethal rounds against clones in the second episode, and was glad when they began using stunners (though there was still a concerning moment in the Venator hulk where Wrecker throws some incapacitated clones to their deaths). My interpretation of this shift is that in the second episode, they were in a soldier's mentality - "these guys are trying to kill my squad, and they must be stopped". Later, they thought on it some more and developed their own rules of engagement. And stunners are basically as effective as blaster bolts unless you are fighting a droid or a REALLY tough target like Scorch, so there's very little down side to using them.

QUESTION :::the prophecy says a chosen one will bring balance to the force. Obi want thinks it was to destroy the sith, not the jedi. But balance can also mean resetting the board brings balance, as if the sith were wiped out then the force would be soley in the jedi ( light) so in that, its not a balanced effect.

The only thing I want out of any new Star Wars movies is not moving forward. Stop giving us bland stories of how fan favorite characters in movies came to be like Solo and Rogue One which are by far my least favorite of ALL SW movies. I want SW movies to take place thousands of years before A New Hope. There so sooooooo much they could do that wouldn't interfere with the canon.
@thesausageman5388

Another point with the first question is that people who watched the original trilogy when they came out would not have seen palpatine as the main villain, they will have watched a new hope and empire strikes back and seen vader as this undefeated all powerful killing machine, with only short scenes indicating he was reporting to a higher power. I may be wrong but I don’t think palpatine was mentioned or appeared in a new hope, and vader was the sole villain in that movie. So as a kid watching vader throw palpatine down the shaft is just like meh anyways because you never got to know him, arguably the people who watched the prequels and the originals in order without the sequels palpatines death holds more power because after 6 movies of despising him you’re like finally he’s gone. Of course the sequels do kind of take away that sense of fulfilment but again people who watched them as they came out couldn’t care less about palpatine. And even for the loss of fulfilment from the people who watched them in chronological order is that the relief that palpatine is finally gone and you see him in the rise of skywalker again they’re like “not him again” and all that fulfilment is taken away and given back as Rey kills him in a more climactic way that wasn’t possible with 80s CGI.

I think Mollie is spot on with what she said about growing up with the prequels. I was born in ‘01 so to me Star Wars was always a six film saga with a clear start and end to the story, so palpatine was always in my mind. To me the sequels are like the weird DLC that’s they added to keep the game alive but cared more about spectacle and doing something new then giving a genuine continuation of the story lol

No it wasn’t. The original overpowered palpatin did die and he died way before he was able to complete his cloning plan and truly get a foothold in deep space. Meaning everything ends up half assed and finished on his side. It was the new republics horrible decision making and long term planning that allowed things like the last order to rise. Hell if they were just a bit smarter or even just kept their standing army around so they could deal with the holdouts and other standing army’s like the first order, collective, and hutts they would have never gain/regained as much power as they ended up getting. But as we all figured out the hard way mon mathma sucked as a leader and almost doomed the new republic before it could even get a foothold of its own.
