This “documentary” was more of a half kayfabe / half shoot story that was really meant to continue to push the Cody/Rock narrative. Rock mentioned a few times that he came up with XYZ thing (the rock/roman match was his idea, the pivot was his idea, the final boss was his idea, the teaser with Cody on the Raw after Mania was his idea 😂). This didn’t feel like a “documentary” so much as a story building opportunity.

@@Robby_CI get that. It was very obvious during the story. I thought this “behind the scenes documentary” was going to dive into ALL of Mania XL and we could get some real stories like “this is how the idea for Cena and Taker came about”, or a look at Seth’s story, Drew, Punk, Damien, etc. Ultimately this felt less like a behind the scenes and more of a “The Rock has all the best ideas” Rock heel promo 😂

@@nicholasmcghee1824I guess in my eyes the story of this WrestleMania was the Roman/Cody/Rock stuff. That’s what all the mainstream attention was on. That was the big story that “made pro-wrestling cool again.” And it was a unique combination of long term booking and pivoting when something interesting happens. I think it a little side angle was supposed to be peek into how the “new” WWE does business as a way to reset the expectations and presumptions of the internet fans. I follow wrestle talk here and there but not a deep dive. This wasn’t a dirt sheet type of thing. They told us this already. Rock said in multiple interviews he wanted to do “Rock 10.0” and created the final boss character. It was cool to see a few behind the scenes rehearsals and backstage interactions but it didn’t give you any meat. Who came up with the avengers assemble like finish idea? What was the reaction when they pitched it? Was Stone Cold going to be involved? Did they rehearse this? Was the trucks n the background of Rock beating up Cody actual Easter eggs? What was Cody’s reaction when they told him he was winning it? Also wrestlemania 40 wasn’t great just because of the main event. What was the pivot like booking Drew and Seth? What was the conversation like when they told Damien Priest he’s cashing in? How did they get Ishiw speed involved? Bailey vs Iyo had a match of the night, talk about that. It just felt like a more in-depth retelling of what we already knew. If fans are watch a youtube doc on Wrestlemania they are fans who keep up with the basic coverage of everything. As far as I’m concerned the “we want Cody movement” hindered the storyline. The storyline was supposed to be Cody taking it upon himself to go against the script and go against the will of the company to insert himself into the main event… but the fans are sooooooo arrogant that they spent the entire build to WrestleMania congratulating themselves for influencing the booking, when they actually didn’t, but then the company pivoted the story to fit the narrative the fans constructed after the fact so it made sense.
@MilkyWayGrump
@MilkyWayGrump 22 дня назад
@@Robby_C i can see that perspective, but you also have to look at WWE as a product/loom at the storyline from a meta perspective to get why they chose that (not necessarily why it's better or not): By having the "we want Cody movement/Cody Crybabies" angle, they framed Cody as the people's champion, and were basically able to portray Roman+Rock V Cody as a "the audience vs the corporation" moment, which makes it easier for people to root for Cody (because, in most cases, at least I'd hope, people want to root for an underdog screwed by The Man, instead of The Man). Not to mention that highlighting how much people wanted Cody, they were able to kind of drown out anyone who actually wanted a Rock V Roman and make them look like a vocal minority. Sure, it's sloppy storytelling, but it's also storytelling that makes fans feel good to be a part of it, and made Cody's victory feel like a communal catharsis, which, in the realm of entertainment, is more of the goal. TL;DR the fan movement influence stuff makes the story shakier, but it also made it more emotionally investing for the fans, which is what's important for building hype.
@Robby_C
@Robby_C 22 дня назад
@@MilkyWayGrump yeah... except it feeds the mentality that the fans "know" more than the people actually in the business, and reenforces that literally acting like petulant children anytime something doesn't go their way immediately will get them what they want. Rather than actually watching the story develop as a FAN should.... They were literally trying to re-start the "anything can happen on live TV" feeling of the attitude era and fans were just like "SCRIPT SCRIPT SCRIPT" when a LARGE portion of this storyline was based on extremely real circumstances. All of that gets overlooked so fans can be proud of themselves.... which in the long run doesn't actually do anything for Cody. Dave Legreca is an embarrassment.

That "doc" (it's always dangerous to say something you produce yourself is a doc) was kinda confirming that the biggest problem for WWE moving a creative vision forward is The Rock's ego walking through the door wanting a Wrestlemania main event, and Paul Levesque navigating the pampering of The Rock into a position where they can go forth with the Cody story. I can live without the rock is this how it goes... HHH's comparison to setting the destination in his gps couldn't be more correct, but man it's crazy that he got there. I’ve been watching pro wrestling many decades, on and off as a kid in the 80’s and I started watching weekly around 1995. So you can call me an old school pro wrestling fan. I agree with the guy who said kayfabe is dead and that WWE is exposing too much, too soon. This documentary is further proof that Triple H is not the creative genius he gets credited for being. He’s made minimal changes and his long term booking is inconsistent. He lets some talents shine while others get nothing. And they should have used this “behind the curtain” documentary to set up the characters involved for future storylines. Imagine an in character Roman Reigns talking about his disappointment of losing on the big stage since he said nothing after the match. It could’ve been used to further set up his babyface return. They could’ve used it to setup Cody and Rock even more than Rock teased it before he left. You could have had Seth Freakin’ Rollins also giving us his disappointment in losing but had him tease getting payback on Roman. There’s endless possibilities that Triple H could’ve done but instead, we get this real look at WM 40. Lame.

The Roman Documentary was called "The Unreality of Pro Wrestiling" by Super Eyepatch Wolf: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UaDAzXVycR4.htmlsi=BKvq72_Klb7ZYXII Let me tell you as a fan since The Undertaker Debuted, and even still remember bits of Hulkamania. WWF/WWE can put together a beautifully executed documentary, but the deep dive that Super Eyepatch Wolf did, and the journey he takes you on, are better than every product WWE has released in terms of Documentary style looks at things. The fact that he made on his own, and as a passion project makes it even better, and the cherry on top is he structures it in a way that the non-fan can digest. In fact the video, as he says within it, is aimed at the non-fan, and that documentary was how I was able to finally explain to so many of my non-fan friends, and even my wife, what I see and what the rest of us see when we watch wrestling. There's also the fact that it's structured with such heart, and even has a sub-documentary about Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens within it, which contrasts, yet intersects with the story so much, it'a masterpiece. The only other documentary that comes close is "The Ressurection of Jake The Snake", which I'm not sure would hit you quite the same, as someone my age who saw those guys when they were still larger than life, but I will say, as a man who seems to talk about his feelings in the same way I feel I approach emotion and the love for wrestling, it will absolutely touch your heart. WWE makes great hype reels of their own accomplishments, but outside the company documentaries dive deep and don't pull punches. I could go on about this for another 20 minutes, but as someone who has watched every WWE produced documentary since their inception, the people outside the company always produce the better informational product. WWE always just pumps it own product, which I don't mind, but it's not even close to what Super Eyepatch Wolf delivered us. Love your channel and your content by the way, definitely subbing to your Patreon, and looking forward to more from you. Welcome to the WWE Universe, we're a diverse and wild bunch, but the love of this great form of entertainment brings us all together, and I'm so glad to see new fans, such as yourself, discovering it and how beautiful it truly is. And you're producing a growing and amazing channel and giving back to the community, truly a huge fan. Super Eyepatch Wolf also has a few other shorter wrestling documentaries, they are abosutely worth watching, I'd even love to see what your reaction or at least thoughts to them is, seeing them as a new fan, as opposed to a long time fan like me.

the more I move away from this the more I think this is a story beat. like Sam Roberts says; Everything counts. I think we have a new definition of Kayfabe in today's Pro Wrestling. a kayfabe where the audiences knowledge of Wrestling is taken into account and that is also factored into the story telling. The "Documentary" was a work and the Rock putting himself over through most of it, is designed to make him into this magnanimous character who gave the people what they wanted, so when he eventually turns out to be behind the actions of Bloodline 2.0 it will be more shocking.

0:02 before this video starts I have a huge problem with these fucking documentaries. They need to quit advertising them at wrestling events and during wrestling programming because kids are watching this. I am so thankful that I got to watch wrestling as a child and believe and everything that was happening my fucking superheroes were real. I didn’t find out this shit was scripted or whatever the fuck you wanna say until I was like 16. The documentary honestly makes it less cool

Come on dude. It’s a TV show like any other. Every show/movie has a behind the scenes. Many right after the show airs. If you’re letting your kids believe this is real your kids disappointment is your own. They don’t need to watch the documentary. They don’t need to think it’s real to have heroes.

The Rock is someone I really can’t get a read on. Sometimes he seems like the nicest guy on the planet. But sometimes he just seems like a massive egomaniac who lies about eating the same fast food for the first time multiple times, refuses to let his movie characters get hurt to much, buries wrestlers like Eric Rowan and CM Punk, tries to force himself into the Mania main event over someone people have been heavily invested in, and has Muhammad Ali’s widow give him the “People’s Championship” as she is accepting her dead husband’s induction into the hall of fame.
@MilkyWayGrump
@MilkyWayGrump 23 дня назад
I think it's very clear that he's a glory-hogging hard-ass who just so happens to be one of the only one of those types who's actually internalized their PR training and knows how to make himself look good/minimize how bad some of his more egocentric actions look. I think that's why a lot of people say Black Adam "broke him": he gambled his entire image of humility and caring about the fans on one project, and the gamble didn't pay off. No matter how far he tries to go behind the curtain, or how good his effects and tricks are now, the general public will still always remember that they saw the Wizard of Oz try to forcefully change the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe.

None of what you've jus listed in enough for valid 'hata'. Hating someone over fast-food? Just seems to be picking at something that's not there. I you want someone who buries talent, look towards Triple H and Cena. Not the Rock's fault that he actually backed off, when the fans voiced that. People are nit-picking about that too.
@ryanredd4552
@ryanredd4552 23 дня назад
@@rooyanblan5322 it’s not “hating someone over fast food”. It’s pointing out that the fact that there are multiple videos of the Rock eating In-N-Out for the “first time” makes him seem incredibly fake. It is also a fact that he buried CM Punk and really the whole Wyatt family. He only backed down when it became crystal clear that Rock vs Roman wouldn’t work.

I highly doubt that the pivot was decided on from the way beginning. This wouldn't be the first time the fans were listened to. We got Daniel Bryan and Kofimania from all the fan backlash. Batista would have been champion after Mania. One of the reasons he came back at that time was that he was promised a final run with the title but the fans were all-in on Daniel Bryan and would not have taken it any other way...

As time goes on I like The Rock less and less. If Punk doesn't get hurt Cody couldn't challenge Seth. That would completely leave Cody 3rd wheeling either match. Rock is definitely old school and goes with whatever makes the most money. I hate fans who support this because it's taking candy and a dopamine rush(Rock Vs Roman) instead of the healthier option. I will admit if I'm wrong but Rock even outside WWE seems like a shit bag.

The Rock is the type of person to do that. In his younger years, he wasn't but since he started doing Hollywood full-time, over time his ego went up to an unbearable level. There are too many stories about his ego but I can tell you two big ones. The Rock was cast as the black adam. Originally he was to be a character in the Shazam movie but he suggested that black adam give his movie, directed by himself. He was hoping that he would gain major control over DC. Then there is the whole WrestleManiaxl where he went over triple H back and changed the plan and even suggested he would win the title.
