Hi! Thank you so much for inspiring me to do this video. I was having some creative block, but your video was exactly what I needed. Keep doing what you're doing!!
@@miss_chalice Hi both, i'm quite conflicted about all of these online videos that dive into the game files and unearth all of the cut content, the truth is we simply have no idea WHY that content was cut (...or do we?)? Some of it may have been cut to reinforce the sense of mystery, but some may well have been cut because it contradicts the key themes, stories or intentions of Miyazaki etc. So we could be seeing and relying on discoveries that were cut necessarily and building new, misguided ideas from them. thoughts?
@@Nosh_Feratu You bring up a valid point. You are right that we're not sure the reason as to why this content was cut. It could be for many reasons like you've mentioned - they could have decided a plot-line made no sense, or wanted to reserve it for DLC, or even they simply just didn't care for it. Regardless, I love cut-content. It's the same reason why I love making lore videos for games where the story isn't neccessarily clear. I love to theorise. Theories are all about building on the uncertain. I try and make it clear that my videos are speculative, when I don't have strong evidence to back up my claims. But I think it's fun to be proven wrong. Just my thoughts :)
@@miss_chalice haha yes, I’m conflicted because I love the posturing and theorising but know that some should be taken with a pinch of salt depending on its origin. Regardless, this is why FROM games are so amazing, so deep, rich and enigmatic! Anyway, you do a wonderful job with your channel which I’ve only just discovered, keep at it!
I think Vyke’s set was just used on the cover in reference to his status as a failed Elden Lord. It portrays your ultimate goal of becoming Elden Lord, but with the tragedy the Souls games are coated in. It paints it as a monumental feat, one which would take the lives of many, thus making for an appropriate cover to the game.
Ds3's cover is Soul of cinder, an scrawny hollow warrior inside an also charred armor knight set, this happens at the end of the game when you kindle the first fame and become Lord of cinder so this is a very From Soft thing to do. i LOVE IT!
Agreed and I feel like it’s a statement about forsaking everything and everyone and yet still failing. This seems to be the over arching tone in elden ring. Every npc has has failed while sacrificing so much in their own personal pursuits. Until the one true elden lord (us) arrives.
On the cover art you can actually recognize some known npcs laying before Vyke, like Jerren and Ensha. I love this cover art, there are so many hidden details : you can see Lionel sitting at a ruin in the back left, and a lot of ingame areas are shown in the distance like the moonlight altar...

Vyke is intentionally kept as a minor antagonist whose backstory is a tragic tale of a Lord who could of been, and he represents that cycle of failure that awaits the player and his playthroughs.
If FromSoft ever makes any DLC for this game, then I hope we get some more background on Vyke, as well as Miquella, Godwyn and especially Godfrey. Seriously though, what the hell was he doing while us Tarnished were running around all over the Lands Between like headless chickens? Not sure if I'm imagining things, but I noticed something a bit odd abiut Vyke's armor. With how the burnt fingerprints are placed - it looks like he was grabbed from behind. Maybe he saw the Three Fingers and had second thoughts? Edit: Judging by name of the DLC, the "Shadow of the Erdtree," it might have something to do with the Helphen - see the Helphen Steeple item description - and the Deathbirds/Ghostflame. The mysterious rider might be Miquella, or even Marika; both of which are equally possible. However, this is FromSoft we're talking about here - I wouldn't be suprised if the figure is the Gloam-Eyed Queen, but that might be a bit too far of a reach.
as you can see in the cutscene when you accept the frenzied flame, the fingers are huge and it's more like the fingers wrap around than being grabbed from behind
@@holbewoner393 if you take a closer look it the direction the fingerprints are facing it actually does looks like he was grabbed from behind (pause) by the three fingers and I know that the fingers are really big but even then it doesn't change the position of the fingerprints
Isn't the idea that the tarnished were banished outside of the lands between with Godfrey and when the Elden Ring was shattered they all were allowed back including Godfrey (the first Tarnished)?
@@TenzinBeifongIII Not all at the same time, they weren't released en masse - some Tarnished (Vyke, Old Knight Istvan, Gideon, Lionel, etc.) have been in the Lands Between for a long time. It's unknown how much time has passed between the call to return and our arrival, but its safe to assume its been more then a few years. Unless FromSoft pulls some timey-wimey shenanigans, like they did in Dark Souls 1 with its DLC. Still love to see more on Godfrey, dude was awesome.
wait dont you have to strip down in order to enter the room that the three fingers is in? My guess is that Vyke was lured in, fully clothed and someone else, most likely shabriri opened the door for him. He saw the three finger, changed his mind and turn tail but got grabbed either way. Also it is implied that he initially came to the three fingers was because he thought that it would save his maiden, but she died anyway. In the church of inhibition where Vyke invades you, there are a dead finger maiden inside, which might point to him invading you to protect his maiden. It could also be that Vyke didnt "fail" to become elden lord, it was that he willingly stepped down in order to prevent the world to go up in flames, since after you get grabbed by the three finger, the ending is determined and you cant choose otherwise, unless you have an unalloyed gold needle. He might knew this and willingly forsake guidance of grace, staying at the frenzy village right near to the lift to the capital. This is all unhinged speculations tho
Vyke is very similar to Oscar from Dark Souls. Oscar was intended to be an NPC that you would bump into in different locations as you progressed until the final boss where he would take the opposite path from the player character and attempt to stop you. Unfortunately they ran out of time and his story was cut drastically. Ironic that Vyke and Oscar had similar stories in the game and similar stories in their real world "death".
Maybe I'm using dark souls logic, but I think Vyke's maiden got taken out by a bloody finger white mask. That's kinda the white masks' thing. It's speculated that Varré killed yours, who is the dead woman in the chapel of anticipation. This enraged him. He gave so much in order to save her from her fate, only for her to get taken away from him anyway. It's not some kind of fixed point like in Steins;Gate or Dr Strange, it's just bad luck. When you first encounter Vyke, he's scouring the worlds to find the killer of his maiden, and using the frenzied flame so much in his encounters that it actually drives him mad. When he invades you, he's lost himself to the flame. He does not care that you're not a bloody finger, making him no different than any other bloody finger, like the one who killed his maiden. I think the poor lad was very impressionable, and a white mask from his own world came to him and suggested he'd invade other worlds to find the killer. Falling for the grace of the Golden Order, falling for Shabriri, falling for the white mask.
Here's the thing though the bloody finger ritual is about killing your OWN maiden. It's about permanently severing your link to the two fingers and the way varre talks about us being maiden less it almost seems that we are an exception it's only because we are maidenless that he allows us to use the blood of any maiden. So it really wouldn't make sense for a bloody finger it kill vykes maiden and the way he invades us right outside where her corpse is and how it's propped up in a chair implies to me that in his madness he's trying to protect her body rather than searching for her killer
@@ChristophThill yeah she probably killed herself since she had no purpose now and if vyke succeeded in burning the tree she would have to hunt him down
I think that Vyke had purer intentions when pursuing the frenzied flame. I think that his maiden was killed in the church of inhibition, and Vyke was going to look for other ways to become elden lord but Shabriri told him that he could spare his maiden, Shabriri not knowing she had already died, gave Vyke a false lifeline, thinking his maiden might be reborn upon being scorched by the 3 fingers. The church on inhibition is also an interesting place. Inhibition can mean to hinder, so maybe the church itself hindered Vyke by killing his maiden. Although the church itself is linked to the 2 fingers so I would doubt that. I also think it is interesting that in the evergaol his armour is the same scorched version. Maybe he was sane for a time after getting scorched in which time he was imprisoned. Vyke is definitely one of my favourite characters to theory craft for as he just has so little explanation for a lot of the gaps in his lore; but I would love to see more added to give us a better idea of Vyke.
A theory I read was that Vyke cut out his eye after the death of his finger maiden in renunciation of the Three Fingers. His spirit drops the Fingerprint Grape because it manifested though it .
Personally I think their plan for Vyke was the same thing they did with Dark Souls 3. In Dark Souls 3 the character on the cover is the final fight of the game. So maybe Vyke's original intention was to be a hidden final boss fight similar to what Miss said. Perhaps in the Frenzied Flame ending after you defeated the final boss, Vyke would show up and challenge you, and you two would fight over the scraps of what remained. Or perhaps they intended Vyke to be an NPC that was doing the same journey as the protagonist, just in his own world, similar to how Solaire of Astora went through the same trials and tribulations that the protagonist did in Dark Souls 1. Or perhaps like Oscar of Astora from Dark Souls 1, his original intention was to be a mirror to the protagonist. In Dark Souls 1, Oscar, the guy who gives you the Estus Flask at the beginning, was originally designed to be going on the same journey as the protagonist, except that he would always make the opposite choice from what the player made, and eventually he and the protagonist were meant to have a fight to the death towards the end. Perhaps in Elden Ring Vyke was supposed to be our Oscar?
I always liked how from Software Chooses its cover art very carefully showing characters that best represent the main themes of the games like Artorias on DS1, Forlorn in DS2 and the Soul of cinder in DS3
Whenever I watch FromSoft lore videos, I’m always a bit sad that I managed to miss so much of the storytelling despite having spent hundreds of hours with these games across a literal decade, but I find your softspoken delivery of the lore gives me a sense of catharsis from clearing up the confusion instead of disappointment that I didn’t figure it out myself. Just keep doing what you’re doing, and I’ll keep watching your videos.
DLC feels guaranteed since it sold incredibly well. It's just a matter of when. When it does however, I'll be thrilled to hear you cover the hidden lore. 😊
Stumbled upon your videos on my recommended and i must say, you are now my favorite Elden Ring lore channel. You have such a beautiful voice and such a wonderful way of explaining the lore in these videos. i look forward to see what you cover next and thank you so much for the awesome content.
Thank you for making this. I love your storytelling style. I also like how you pose the questions that are present. It's cool when we don't know what happened but are invited to speculate as a community.
I really like the pacing and editing of your videos! You’re also such a comfortable and clear speaker, you make what you’re discussing easy to listen to. I would have guessed you had made way more than 15 videos.
Just found your channel as I've only recently begun playing Elden Ring and you are amazing. I love listening to you talk about and speculate about the lore and listening to your videos during boss battles helps lower my heart rate because your voice is so soothing
Stumbled onto your channel recently and just cannot stress enough how much I've been enjoying your content. I'm a deep lover of lore myself and appreciate the way you explore these many theories and specifics within the story of Elden Ring. I've noticed many in the comments paying you compliments on your voice and the way you carry on through your videos, and I'm right there with 'em! You do wonderfully with the content you cover. Really looking forward to seeing more from you, it's so cool to be able to stumble upon someone with such a unique and growing channel. People like you inspire me! Wishing you well in your future ✨
Great vid Miss C, I really appreciate the way you have items and their descriptions on screen while you read them out and make it clear where the written lore ends and your conjecture then begins. Simple choice that takes extra effort but incredibly useful and effective. Your lovely voice and smile are the cherry on top as well :) As someone who wishes they could start their own lore channel someday, you and other RU-vidrs like yourself are inspiring, and I hope your channel only becomes more successful, keep up the great work Miss.
Congrats on the 10K subs, way too deserved and your whole channel as a whole deserves even more. I always had questions about our cover guy, this is literally the first one I saw about good ol' pal o boy Vyke.
You are doing so great! Im glad I found your channel, stummbling upon it while I was on a deep dive into the elden ring lore rabbit hole. And you like... explain everything so well and give evidence and have so interesting thoughts and make logical connections - even I can understand these mystic convoluted stories! That is though I havent experienced the game first hand and only watched others play it. You are so calm and soft spoken, seem kind but witty whilst also talking so passionate and engaged, its almost intoxicating. I hope you keep enjoying making these videos cause we viewers for sure love them. Thank you
I Absolutely adore your videos, again i pray for more frequent uploads , And your theory about Vyke havin an ultimate 1v1 with the tarnished for the title of elden lord should been canon in the game and kinda made the normal ending seem insignificant in comparison
Really like that you go straight to the subject. No hyping about the video or trashtalk about subscribing and thumbs upping for the first 2 minutes. Great content! Keep em coming. You also have the perfect voice for these kind of videos.
I'm proud to see your channel is growing, Miss Chalice! :) Vyke's journey to Madness is a cautionary tale of great potential easily stray away due to conviction of one's choice of loyalty and devotion of cause.
It's very obvious that your knowledge of Elden Ring lore is superb - but what's even better is your style of re-telling the stories! I know all the lore, but I still want to hear it all again to hear your take on things!!
I listen to your soothing voice while I warm up in valorant deathmatch. I put the game on silent because you are so nice to listen to! You definitely deserve to be blowing up! Well done on the fantastic videos!
I'm so glad I found this channel! You're on par with Ashen Hollow and Vaatividya for me. I have already rewatched all of your videos twice after discovering you today XD please keep making amazing videos!
@@Dr_Diaz brother’s code is easily on par with vaati. Sinclair lore, Queelag, Hawkshaw, this channel… just because someone is the most popular, doesn’t make them the best.
Idk why but when you brought up us and Vyke being rivals and a possible epic 1v1. Reminds me of Oscar of Dark souls 1 and his Cut Questline being with you along the ride until the end where you both fight
Randomly saw a post about Vyke. Tried to Google his lore to read more but had trouble. Then I remembered just the person to tell me about Vyke. Thank you for the lore 🙏🏻🙏🏻
You explain lore calmly, silent, slowly, slow pace, something like that, and then putting up evidences.. which strike our curiosity, then in the back of our minds we say: "oohh" , "wow" , "she got got a point" or "why not?" Etc ... Really great videos! Keep it up ;)
Love, love, love your content. Keep up the good work, I've subscribed and I enthusiastically look forward to more. Do you already have plans for future videos? Have you Platinumed the game yet? I find Fia to be really interesting, same with the Gold mask. There's also something weird about the perfumers that I've yet to uncover. Take care!
I disagree, we already know the twists and turns his story takes as well as how it ends. There's other parts of the world and story that are more mysterious and less explored.
Man this video was great, I also just watched the Fia video and the cosplay as well the lore was spot on, I managed to piece most of this together myself when playing and by the time you find Vyke's prison I felt sorry for him. The way I see it he was corrupted by Shabriri, if I spelt that correctly, hell even I was nearly won over by his words about saving your maiden I have empathy I don't want to see an innocent person man or woman burn alive so I can be lord thats awful! It became apparent shabriri was insane once you finish the conversation with him on the mountaintop of giants straight up killed him after that. Back to Vyke though I believe his story to be akin to a Greek tragedy he strove hard to find a way to save his maiden as he cared for her and after hearing shabriri's words and seeing whats below the capital himself if the knowledge his maiden would die didn't drive him away from the proper path (I still see using the frenzied flame to murder everything to be a bit much genocide for my tastes) then seeing the atrocities of the golden order sure as hell did. All in all great video and if you haven't already you should do a video on the travelling merchants of the game as they are also linked to the frenzied flame, man I wish the cut content for that quest was left in but the overall story is still there just not as actively shown to you as it would have been through the quest. I will admit after everything I learned about it and the culmination of seeing what the golden order DID to them brought tears to my eyes... Anyway enough crying great video again! Keep up the excellent work! :)
Perhaps it was both, I mean the promise of power and saving one of the few people in the world that are allied to you must have sounded quite enticing. What I want to know is why Roni didn’t take interest in him to start her world and I also wonder if he was also chosen by Torrent.
As compelling as this info is, your voice is incredibly soothing and ive often found myself asleep on the floor cause i decided to chill and watch your videos lol
Loved this video! Vyke is such an interesting character to me; like youve stated he is the poster boy and he has a story, which to me is already a win as the previous fs game poster boys have "silent stories" like bloodbornes hunter dying in the sewers of yharnam. It is a shame that his storyline was cut however, but I am happy he had something beyond a point in the game where he failed to complete the story, its cool to see the build up to his fall from grace *badumtss*
Even having watched other people make theories on ER, I still decided to binge through your vids to hear your own thoughts on the lore. I'm a simple man. Happy to have found your vids.
Hi MC! Love your videos I have a theory you might be interested in that I've had floating around in my head for some time now. In the war with the giants, what if Merika was cursed by the giants, and in expelling her curse from her being, she created Radagon. there are many many clues that point to this
I have been thinking this too. The giants red braid gives compelling evidence, and talking to Melina in Marika's bed chamber provides some very interesting information regarding the relationship between radagon and marika
In a lot of ways Vyke reminds me of Oscar. Originally Oscar of Astora was supposed to not just have an entire questline but to also oppose the player after the final boss and fight them. But Fromsoftware decided not to have that and instead have him die right at the start, with bassically no story at all. I really wish we got more story around Vyke, because he does seem very interesting. But I am afraid that we will stay hungry for more.
very nice video. your work was transported on BILIBILI,and i found you with the link below the video. your sound is very pleasing to the ear too. and I think Vyke may have originally been designed as a two-line knight on an adventure with players, which explains why he can be summoned to help players, and his witch's corpse looks fresh...(sorry for that) Doesn't look like someone who's been dead a long time. But the scheme was abandoned. and sorry for my poor english.
