Here's my solution for washing clothes in a SHTF situation. A very durable pea sheller too!
wringer:

cart: (I'm not sure of the maker of this cart, it only says PF 8 cu ft. poly on the side but here is one similar, but a bit larger than mine)

Best Prepper video ever. All the men are only interested in guns or knives. But the real question is how do you wash clothes without electricity? And the set up is so practical, the wheel barrow can be used on non washing days.

Great video. I would line the cart with an old sheet to catch the peas and it would be easier to get them up when you were done. Just gather the corners and cart them inside for canning.

they go fine as far as I know. my uncle had a big one that was built into his washing machine from the 1950s. it was mounted above the agitator so the water would go back into the machine, and it could swing out the way.

Hey there ISW, I loved the video, and I just had to have one, so I ordered it online. I remember what it was like to wash clothes in the bathtub by hand, not easy! so this will be one more thing I have in my treasure trove. Thanks PrepperDino

Thanks for the link and the video. I have wanted one of these wringers, but they are sooo expensive. Hopefully I can get one through this company. I do have a galvanized double wash tub that I found at an antique store. I use it to wash dog blankets and dog towels and anything I don't want to wash in my machine. This wringer will be a great addition!

That cart is huge, if you can take the wheels off and plug up any holes and add a trolling motor you can use it to go bass fishing.... plus, you can use the trolling motor later on to agitate the clothes when washing them. lol the pea sheller wringer looked like it could make a good press for making dough flat for making noodles....see what you started. we had an electric wringer machine when i was a kid, I still have the skinny fingers to prove it your setup looks handy if the power goes out

I hate doing laundry now, can't imagine how I'd loathe it in a SHTF situation..lol. But, to this point I have only purchased a commercial mop bucket (the kind with the lever press on it) because of the dual purpose idea. But, I guess I wasn't thinking large enough. Yuk. Great idea and funny video too. :)

What a GREAT video! You made me laugh so hard. This morning I as I was sitting in front of about 55 lbs of unshelled purple hulls, I started looking at Amazon for a sheller. All the reviews I looked at were not good for the Mr. Sheller or the Jr. one. I didn't want to "shell" out 45 bucks for something that may or may not make me happy, so started looking at RU-vid for an alternative and came across your video. I have wanted a wringer washer for a long time, when I saw what you were doing with the wringer I just had to check out your vid. It was time well spent. I will be putting my 45.00 + towards a new wringer instead a unknow deal. Thank you so much! Have a blessed day.

About the wobbliness, I think if you put a section of board under the clamp it would stabilize it. Something at least as wide as the wringer, and as deep as the cart would be best. I'm guessing about maybe a 2' piece of 2x8? It looks like it'd fit right under the curled lip of the cart edge.

Oh I loved this! I think this video is my favorite that I watched in a while! And if you do the garden work , then doing the laundry will clean the cart so you can use it to make pies , shell peas! Lol ! Thank you for this one I really enjoyed the fun you had ! Keep thinking for the rest of us!

I love your sense of humor! I am so with you on the duel purpose stuff because as long as I have the modern convenience's I'm going to use them and just don't have the money to buy stuff for just in case. I have been wanting the wagon for my garden stuff and this idea would be excellent. I was stationed in Korea and HAD to use a washboard and wring by hand, it was not cool in my 20's so I'm positive it would not be in my 50's now :))

The peas convinced me. lol I have the same cart so I could use it catch flying beans and peas. I'm lucky because I have a house from the 20's with very large double laundry sinks, one has a sections that works like a washing board but I was wondering how I would be able to wring towels or large sheets. That wringer seem perfect.

You're having way to much fun shelling peas! LOL!! I already do all my laundry by hand in the bathtub with a plunger washer. I didn't think I'd like doing it but it gets my clothes so much cleaner doing them by hand. Only problem is I don't have a wringer and you're right...it does do a number on your hands. I guess you get used to it after awhile but as cheap as that wringer is, I'll be getting one sooner rather than later!

I have a wood frame hand crank wringer hanging on the wall. I do have a couple of multiple tub maytag machine with a power ringer that would operate with a generator. One machine is the one I use to wash the tar off black walnuts. There should be a tensioner adjustment on the rollers. big nut on the top center usually. sounds like it is set too tight.

How about placing a 2X4 under those brackets, then tightening it against the cart? I bet that would make a world of difference in the stability of the wringer. Looks like a good deal to me. I remember wringing clothes out in my Aunt's old wringer washer. We'd drag it out of the garage into the back yard. Fill it with water, wash everything, wring it all out, then release the plug and fill it with clean water for the rinse. We also ran them through twice on the rinse. Great memories.

if you hold onto something long enough it will come back into style. tie dye clothes and bell bottom jeans are a great exampleof that. before too long ago it was just considered dusty dirty junk in a basement. recently it has become valuable again. I have an old lard press that works pretty good too. I was always going to figure out how to use it to press grapes but it evades me on that p[urpose.

Have you ever heard of a ringing pole? Basically it's a steel pole in the ground. When you are done washing... wrap your things around the pole and twist. Not as easy on you as a wringer... but does help save your hands. I've also seen this done with a ring mounted on the wall (very well mounted) putt the things though the ring, gather together and twist.

Great idea. The washing and rinsing would work better if you used a toilet plunger, a clean one of course, and just push up and down to get dirt out when washing and get soap out when rinsing. Sloshing back and forth would be very tiring and not very effective. The wringer is really nice. Put a 1x3x12" piece of wood under the thumb screws and it should stiffen things up pretty good. Thanks for the idea.

also...you can get one of those big paint buckets from home depot...the 5 gallon kind and put a hole in the to the size of the plunger stick, then slide the stick through and there ya go...a washer. I have used this many of time when camping. It's also good for storage of toiletry items for emergency's.

Another cheap idea for a wringer: take a 5 gallon bucket, drill a bunch of holes in the sides and bottom, and use another bucket placed inside to press down on the clothes. You could also place a round piece of wood between the clothes and bucket for some extra pushing power.

I bet you could rig up a windshield wiper motor to that thing without much problem, run it on 12 volts. A rotisserie motor would probably work if you wanted to run on household power. Both those motor options can/will run slow enough as to not tear anything (or you) up.
