I had a handyman "plumber" install a box along with hooking up kitchen sink, shower, vanity and toilet. When the washing machine empties on medium or large load, the toilet bubbles, water comes up from the drain into the shower basin and the sinks gurgle. Is there anyway I can send you pictures of what this guy did so you can tell me what the problem is? He said the plumbing is vented, but I have no pictures of that. Thanks.
OOPS! I first thought this was very clever but.. Your air admittance valve in the washer box is completely unnecessary. You are not venting the stack. You are only venting the line from the washer to the trap. The vent stack to the right of the washer box needs outside air or an air admittance valve.
Why is it important to have this minimum length for trap weir? My current setup is 2 couplings back to back and haven't had any issues (25 year old home). Thanks
This is so helpful, thank you! Question on the trap. Is there a preferred orientation? In this instance it appears the more vertical leg of the trap is downstream of the standpipe. In your whole home rough in video, a similar setup seemed to have the reverse orientation. Also, why is the clean out necessary? Can’t you remove the AAV for access?
What state and city is this code? I’ve never seen anything like this. My home is in a suburb of Chicago, built in 2003. I have only a single drain pipe and have a sink along side of washer and dryer. This has been operating for 21 years with no problems. I have never cleaned any pipes in my home. Sewer pipe is pvc with copper supply lines, city sewer and Lake Michigan water. Comment please and thank-you!
@ 0:20 the code says : The waste from an automatic clothes washer shall connect to a vertical drain of not less than 2 inches in diameter, or a horizontal drain of not less than 3 inches in diameter. IMO since you have a vertical drain (2 in diam.) that 3 in diam horizontal section does not apply.
New Subscriber...Great content!! Just finished a new build and the washing machine and ice maker drains make an awful gurgle noise when they drain. Could this be from improper vent connection distance as noted in your video? Other thoughts ? Thanks !
I’m wanting to move my machine to another room. I plan on putting a new trap under the box like you’ve done, but the weir or the horizontal run will have to go 8’ along the interior wall , turn a 90*, and go another 5’ to the drain and vent of the original location. Concrete floor and not sure if this will work. My other option is to go the 8’ through the interior wall and exit the building where the dryer will vent, and bury it in a trench to a ditch. Do you have any advice?
Nice videos…subscribed. How would you do a washing mashing box install side by side with a utility sink? And does each fixture in this instance need its own trap ?
CA licensed plumber/business owner here…. looks good but what do you like to have the clean out a little bit lower if you go to cable that drain your snake is going to be 5 feet up in the air. Also, CA doesnt allow aav/studor vents here, only seen them in mobile homes
