Lived in this area for 2 years but been around the area because my best friend moved there for almost 20 years. It's dangerous but it's home to a lot of people. With the prices in DC the way they are. You live where you can afford and you adapt.

DC still has bad areas but the murder rates have been much less than half of what they were in the 80's and 90's, even though they've gone up in the last two years. .

DC has some bad spots! It ain't shit compared to late 80's early 90's when I lived there! It was murda capital then! Almost 500 homicides that year. It was chocolate city to me!! Home of GoGo music🙌 very first day I moved there a 9 year old girl was killed in the crossfire on my street 😔 but I stayed! 2 weeks later police officer was shot dead in there car, musta been like 20 holes in that car! lived there a couple years. Shit was hectic every day you walked out the door! You had to put your game face on every day! Get caught sleepin death could be the outcome! but I had good times to and i survived! Maybe cause i eventually left, not sure. Chocolate city always has a special place in my heart! I'm a white dude by the way✊ Much love to the whole DC metro area!✌

On the other side, atl aint even like that its mostly jacking shit down there i stayed in Pittsburgh. Just Beware of ur surroundings at any gas stations in A they jack cars down there. Be safe bra. DC has had the "Chocolate" side for a while. If anything, it looks to have improved. Part of that (I guess) can be attributed to the value of DC real estate. Too valuable to bomb out like in Baltimore.
Interesting video! I am a fifth generation Washingtonian ..love my hometown. I actually grew up in SE. Kind of sad to me to see what it looks like today .... Most of my hometown is clean and has wonderful neighborhoods

DC small. But have a lot of hoods. Streets blocks & corners. It looks like he just in SE DC. You have NE, NW, SW. In my opinion. South East & North East. Are probably the roughest part of Washington DC. North West & South West DC have rough sections of their neighborhood also. 80's & 90's era. Probably was the most dangerous times in Washington DC. I should say early 2000's. In 4/23/2003. I got rob & shot in the head on Valley Ave in SE. Over a $10 bag of weed.
Keep it real, dc aint really all that bad. Lived in quite a few hoods in southeast & on the northside. Their is crimes going on but if you mind your business, you definitely wont find trouble

These places haven't been dangerous since the late 80's and early 90's. DC is being heavily gentrified right now. In five years these hood won't exist. The crime rate in dc has been dropping 10+ years now. The job market is rapidly growing in certain fields. The wages are just growing to meet the cost of living.

@@LXRD-SUPREME- Dc still has its rough areas and still has alot of hoods but alot of areas been gentrified. In the 80's and 90's It was the murder capitol. Averaging over 300, 400 plus murders a year. Now Dc average like 160 a year which is still bad because our city is so small.

Now I'm from DC born and raised Southeast and it's not as dangerous as it was in the 90s and is as we speak being heavily gentrified however to say its not dangerous is crazy Southeast have a population a little over a 144,000 and has a higher homicide rate then cities like Richmond Virginia and Milwaukee Wisconsin with almost 70 homicides on the year so far now you can take from that what you will
And In the last past two years the homicide rate in Washington DC has actually went up 60% And in the past 3 weeks in Southeast police have gotten shot at every week /There has been triple shootings in southeast every week to every other week//You are definitely not talkin about (Southeast 👀 who's homicide rate is in the top 5 or 6 in the country not including the rest of of DC and according to Neighborhood Scout and I quote with a crime rate of 60 per 1,000 residence, Washington has one of the highest crime rates in America

Are these places far from the "real" Washington DC (ie. what you see on the news, the posh parts)? Could you walk in? Or is there a bus, if you wanted to go there from these places?
DC is a small city, these hoods are not that far from the white house area. Given how small the city is, you will be able to see the overlap of ghetto and rich areas
I was born and raised in both Northwest and Southeast DC. It's the nation's capital and no excuse for vacant buildings and limited services to the "east of the river" neighborhoods as that area is called. What you didn't see was the nice neighborhoods where the lawns and properties are well kept. I've not lived in DC in over 30 yrs. and I still only see limited gentrification or a change in the mindset of how some residents don't take pride in their community. The city and government are not going to do everything for you.

Im from Capitol Heights which is literally across the street from SE DC, I work in Baltimore, but as a child I spent Alot of Summers in West Akron Ohio (where my moms is from) you really should consider touring through Hoods in West Akron and Youngstown, them some wild places too but they are just smaller cities though...

Compared to a drive out Kercheval once you leave downtown all the way out to Grosse Pointe, the DC hoods look positively prosperous. They also seem to have plenty of cops, something Detroit sorely lacks.
