This TV was assembled at Zenith's Springfield, Missouri final assembly plant which opened in 1969. Most components were made at Zenith's home facilities in Chicago and even some from Zenith's Reynosa, Mexico facility was only a few years old at the time. This TV uses the Space Command 600Z remote control

Back then, any TV with a handle on the top was called "portable" even if it was very heavy and could only run on AC power. The same thing was true with early "portable" computers! :-)

My mom bought one of the first portable Sony Color Trinitrons. (1969) KV-1210U It was a high quality build and had an awesome picture! The knobs and wood case were very solid and it was HEAVY! It even had headphone jacks, solid state and UHF. Trinitron debuted in 1968 but did not hit the states until 1969 when UHF was added. I have a picture of myself from 1969 in a baby cradle on the kitchen table next to her brand new Sony TV and a TV Guide on the table with Glen Campbell on the cover! Lolz! Adjusted for inflation, that set would cost well over $2, 000.00 new today.

Nice trip down memory lane for me. I sold and serviced only Zenith TVs in the 70s and 80s. and cleaned a lot of those push on module connectors back then and it was one of the biggest problems with this chassis after a few years. The IF module (big silver one on left side) was prone to connection issues. It still was a good design for servicing and a giant advancement from the vacuum tube sets. The System 3 went to using edge snap on connectors like the two on the module plugged to the back of the picture tube and they were very reliable. Thank you for producing this video.

you gave me a nice nostalgia flashback to my childhood, i remember when the old tv remotes of the early days had a 20 foot cord that went all the way to the tv along with the old manual crank dials like an old school landline telephone, those were the good ol days. lol

We had a mid-70's woodgrain Quasar TV and the remote also had the old aluminum tuning rods. The Quasar remotes were a bit louder than the Zenith when pressed. We also had a late-70's Sharp and Sony Trinitron. Both of those had battery powered sonic remotes which you could hear when you put your ear up to the remote speaker.

You have a very nice house and furnishings. I recently scored a 1985 Zenith that looks gently used. Its one keypad sets with remote control that uses the type J battery. The remote looks and works great but the TV is a bit tired. I suspect it was a set that was turned on with the remote and mostly left on the same channel all day. I'm with you. I'd like to get a CC 2 or earlier someday. Older TV's are hard to come by here in WV.

@vwestlife

I'm surprised they were still using the mechanical remote and motorized tuner when electronic tuners were becoming more and more common and cheaper to make. The tuner looks quite intimidating when you first peek behind the panel -- but I guess this was still back in the day when your TV salesman would set up the TV for you upon purchase. Also, FM radio uses 75 kHz audio deviation while TV audio is 25 kHz deviation, so a ch.6 station transmitting FM audio will sound louder than other TV stations.

if you're talking about DTV and a converter box, then yes, with an adapter to convert the 75 ohm coaxial "F" type "TV out" on the back of the average converter box to the 300 ohm twin lead connections on the back of the set (the four screws just to the left of the antennae) a TV like this can be retrofitted to receive DTV stations.

Regarding Channel 6 audio.....TV audio deviation is 25 Khz while FM broadcast deviation is 75 Khz which is why TV audio on 87.75 was lower on an FM radio compared to the rest of the band. Unlike full power TV signals, LPTV doesn't have a rule on audio deviation. Several enterprising individuals realized this and applied for a Channel 6 allocation for a LPTV and utilized 75 Khz audio deviation so the audio at 87.75 would have competitive audio with the FM band but louder on a TV.
