Greetings friends! This video features the 1963 Zenith 19" portable television, model K2214, known as the "Acapulco". It's equipped with the 16KC27QS chassis with Space Command 300 Remote Control.
Your commitment to American made television is highly commendable. Zenith was an excellent television, and so was their entire line of products. Like you said. No shortcuts, and quality parts, not the least expensive ones to save a buck. It's sad how everything Zenith was is gone, along with the entire industry! It breaks my heart.
@@Darryl603 Miss those days! When things were repairable, and NOT throw-away. SMD has it's benefits, but modular repairability would be better than dispose after 4 years....
@@donnysarian Same (almost) everything on this end; Zenith's were great until the 1998 model blew the red gun on the CRT; and the Magnavox rebuild didn't make it thru the 90 day warranty. I took the refund for thr dud CRT, and purchased the best Panasonic had to offer; I moved it to my place when they passed away, and watch it each evening, usually MeTV/Decades/FRNDLY....
We had a Zenith my entire childhood. It had a year of constant repairs around the time I was 10 years old, but other than that it was in good shape until we replaced it with another Zenith when I was 19
It’s great to see you back again! I’ve always enjoyed watching your videos over the years. Your dedication and knowledge of these sets is unparalleled. Thank you!
Zenith *pulled no stops* in the manufacture of their products, and this television set was no exception. As a youngster at about the time this set came off of the assembly line at Zenith, it seems I remember every Zenith TV commercial *always* at some point had the phrase _"At Zenith, the quality goes in before the name goes on,"_ and they really meant it!
Boy oh boy , does this bring back memories, I found one of these on garbage day as I was walking to school back in 1974, I was late to school as I brought the set home before heading back to school. I worked part time in a TV repair shop back in the 1970s all the set needed was the tuner gear and clean the tuner. It looked like new condition just like yours. I learned alot working in the repair shop. I picked TV set out of the garbage for many years and selling them to poor people for very cheap. We were poor and had to be very resourceful to make money. I started my radio collection back in the 1970s when everything was Dirt Cheap or trash picked that was 1,500 radios ago and almost 45 years. Thanks for the annual video you provided I really enjoyed watching it
Thanks for a nice, nostalgic and technical introduction to a mint 60's remote controlled Zenith TV, Doug. Glad to see you're still around and having fun with Space Age vintage electronics. Have a nice Christmas and a happy New Year! ☃🎄🎉
Thanks for preserving yet another beautiful American made set, keeping this stuff out on the media keeps us all interested and compassionate about not letting these things get thrown away and die.
That is one fine machine. Looks like it was NOS and never seen the light of day, a smoker's room or a room with any dust in it. Absolutely amazing. Given all the channels we have these days, no shortage of good black and white content to display. EXCELLENT!
Geeze, Doug, a 19+ y/o Ebay find,?? WOW! Styling far ahead of 1963 standards, the other manufacturer's sometimes phoned-it in; NOT Zenith or Motorola, though. Thanks so much for making my Christmas! All the best, and may your New Year - 2023 be the happiest! Tim "I tolerate the present, by living in the past!" : drh4683, many years ago! That opinion holds true more now than ever!
I see that Zenith chassis still has some white "Elmenco" caps on it (which may have tested OK but are original and may fail later) and not too many leaky/shorted bumblebees that needed replacement. A 60+ year old B&W tube TV producing a good clean picture today with no smearing or cloudiness has to be a testament to quality. I'd like to see a Philco Predicta do that!
I don't know what it is about this fellow's videos, but I've been religiously watching them since he debuted 17 years or so ago. I know next to nothing about electronics, yet I even love all the technical detail he provides. But, you know, In the end, I know why I love them. It's seeing so many of these wonderful American TV sets, radios, stereos, etc., again, and how beautiful they all were. Really beautifully stylish and well-crafted and engineered in industries America once dominated - before selling out. And if you are as big a fan of drh4683 and his presentations as I am, you mourn that.
Always happy to see a video from you Doug! Once the spring time rolls around, I'd love to see some updates to some of your beautiful American made cars. Happy New Year to you and yours!
I have a very similar set but it's a regular no space command no antenna with the 5U4 power rectifier on the supply I need to change some caps in the vertical because the size is weird and it rolls when it warms up.
RCA was probably Zenith's biggest competitor back then, but the two companies sure did differ. Both of them had great engineering departments, but Zenith backed it up with quality design, where RCA backed it up with cheap printed circuit boards.
Hi Doug, glad to see you back making these priceless videos. As you can see below me of all the comments made on how we miss you very much. I was born in '62 but my parents had this very same set and lasted until 1968. I remember watching vaguely my kids show on this set. I and as well of your large following base fans look forward to new videos in the coming future. Take care my friend.
Superior video showing the details of the television. I always was and still fascinated by the old black and white TVs, especially the 19" Ihave two identical 19" Zenith TVs that are black and white. One works excellent and the other works but has a vertical issue. They are both solid state. The picture somewhat collapses on the one after its on for a few minutes. They are in storage right now but plan on showing them once I can dig them out.
You do this so well! Watched your 63 Chevrolet video many times . I remember made in America products . The best American era, great comments on your videos Thanks for the great content
Well it sure glad to hear from you it's been a long time? I'd sure like to see something on your classic cars do you still have the 60 Chevy with the 6 cylinder and the column shift? And also the green Dodge I forget what model it is off and but I'd sure like to see what's been going on with those it's been many years I've been watching you for many years and I hadn't seen nothing from you in a long time and it had me worried.
It's too bad you have nothing to say I was hoping you would let us know it's been going on with your cars not just TVs that is part of your channel too since you do show them but thank you anyways we're not responding
@@dcformee123 he could just be super busy, he has a lot on his plate, all his comments on comments were 14 days ago, ya just missed him!! he'll reply when he has time.. it happens
As always thank you for sharing your hobby. I remember in the 80’s working in appliance stores and I was just in awe at how many of these Zenith and RCA sets were still out there in day to day operation, when they came in for service & or repairs. They are still marvels of an American industry since long gone.
Hi Ronnie, it ended up being a purely coincidental situation that I was introducing new content right before Christmas the last several years. For that reason, I wanted to get a new video in before 2022 ended so it wouldn't be left blank like I did 2021. I do have new videos in production that won't have to wait another year to issue, however! Thanks for watching.
Wow...my Dad bought one of those at a yardsale back in the mid 70s. Same color too! But i never understood the 'Handle' on top...i didnt know what it was for until now...nothing about that old tv spoke 'portable' to me at 10yrs old. That tv my parents used up until around 1992...the local tv repair guy finally had no more parts to fix it and so bought a color tv...yeah we never had a color tv growing up...my dad finally 'splurged' and shelled out $225 for a color tv in 1992
Glad 😊 to see 👀 up with a new Video 📹, I just like Zenith TV 📺 Radio , Stereo, VCR !!!! Hope you will be back soon with another new Videos Soon !!!! Have a wonderful 😊 Christmas 🎄 !!!!
I want to say hi I hope you’re doing well. I really really miss videos Miss you and your videos you were producing you doing a lot vintage stuff miss that you are the real McCoy please come back
21:00 Nothing made in Mexico is made to the quality standards of the US. Car batteries are a great example. The new car batteries are horrible and all of them are made in Mexico. They have terrible QA. Maybe not as bad as China, but still pretty bad.
Uh, dude, you need to put out more videos. You got a great voice and your content is excellent. Get to work and make more videos or I'm going to file a complaint with your manager, who is presumably you.
