Have you ever worn high index glasses? How did you like them?

While the frames could get smaller and lighter, and of course as a person with high Rx myself I'd still pick high index lenses, I was on my last visit to get new glasses that high index lenses are actually heavier. Just some food for thought, also thanks for the video.

Hey there! Since High-Index lenses are a more dense material, they can weigh more than other options (like Polycarbonate) in certain scripts, despite it being thinner. However, due its thinning abilities we still recommend it for most high scripts!

Asa former optician, I'm now retired, isn't a strong or high prescription anything at or above -7.00? Usually as long as a patient doesn't pick a frame that is extremely large or a thin wireframe high index lenses isn't really necessary for a prescription at or under -4.00. This is especially true if the frame is a full plastic frame which would hide that edge thickness of the lenses. I appreciate the fact that you never claimed that the glasses you were wearing contained high index lenses. Your glasses are either a very weak prescription or no prescription at all. I wasn't able to see any "cut-in" through your lenses which is how I determine the strength of someone's glasses.

Hi Jim, thank you for your feedback! These are all just things for people to keep in mind who are shopping prescription glasses online. Most customers we see have no idea that type of frame is even something that can affect their lenses! Also good eye - Alanna doesn't have a strong perscription but, here at Fuse, we work with a ton of higher scripts! -4.00 is typically the cut off we see for online perscription companies that have turned away some of the customers we get. However, we agree! Closer to the -7.00 mark is where these recommendations really help.

Years ago, when my RX wasn't as strong (Somewhere in the +5.50 range for my left eye), I got Wiley X "Roamer" frames. I want wraparounds to keep the sun from sneaking in from the top and sides since I have a sensitivity to light. But now, thanks to diabetes damaging the retina in my left eye, I need to rely on my legally blind right eye. So the RX for that is now +11.25. They can't get an RX for the left eye because the spot in my vision doesn't allow me to see the big "E" on the eye chart clearly. So they just kept the RX for the left eye the same as what it was before the retina was damaged. What frame would work with a +11.25, that would be close to a wraparound style?

I can't find a site that will do bifocals with a +10 and +12 distance power. It gives an error when you try to submit a prescription with that high power with a bifocal or progressive add but single vision works. I was looking at all kinds of sites with cheap frames like zenni, eyebuydirect, sllac, firmoo, yesglasses, etc.

I’ve tried polycarbonate lens but can’t stand the chromatic aberration. Any alternatives?

For prescription, you can try upgrading to Trivex! They will have the same benefits as Polycarbonate, but also clearer more "glass-like" vision!

If you have a a strong prescription you generally don't have a choice with your lenses. The computer says no to everything but one option. The only choice is the frame and size and shape is key. You can not tell if the frame fit your face on line. Period.

I just realized in looking back at all of your previous videos this is the first time you're actually wearing glasses. Since your working in the optical world I was surprised to see that this is your first time wearing glasses in any of your videos. Considering that you work in the optical world you should be wearing glasses whether you actually need them or not. The store I worked in had a policy that everyone had to wear glasses during working hours to promote the sales of the newest frames. It was amazing how many women patients bought the same frame as the girl that was assisting them was wearing. Our store was a very high end store so our staff was mostly young attractive young ladies that served as our receptionists, frame stylists and opticians. but being attractive also made them very good models as well. Everyone was provided a free eye every year and new glasses every 6 months but they also received free glasses from the frame reps. So it was very clear that by wearing and modeling the product was the best way of selling the product. In this case glasses. So Alanna, you should consider wearing glasses in all of your future videos. By the way are they prescription or planos?
