I think you're doing something wrong. I have been steam juicing for about 7 years. This year I juiced 44 quarts of cherry juice which were done in 0ne day. If you are getting bits of fruit in the juice you must be pressing down the fruit. I also juice grapes, elderberries, apples and beets. Only the beets take more than 30 minutes to completely steam down. No seedding, no peeling, very little mess. I do it outside to keep the heat out of the house using my camp stove. One 3 gallon propane bottle provides all of my heat for the canning season normally canning 0- - 100 quarts of juice to be used in jelllies, drinking, etc. I completely disagree with your analysis and I have been canning and helping other people can for 60 years. The pulp goes into compost and to the chickens. Nothing gets wasted.

Thanks for watching the video. I honestly can't justify spending all that time. Steam canning fruit when I can just boil the fruit for 20 minutes and can it up and I'm not spending hours on the stove wasting gas. I've been canning juice for. I don't even know how many years and I was told that this steam canning was going to be the best thing ever and honestly I don't believe it is. I get way better results boiling the fruit and water straining it and it's a lot less hassle and a lot less work at the end of the day which is what matters because I don't want to spend my life refilling the bottom part of the steamer with water every 40 minutes

I'm looking at getting a stream juicer but reviews are all over the place. Some day plastic tube gets to hot and falls off others say turn nozzel gets to hot to handle. A lot say the fit between pans is not good and steam gets out making a mess everywhere. Others say they absolutely love it! Prices can go from 69 to 269 from what I've seen. Do you have any good advice on which is best to buy? Thank you!

I use the steam juicer and have no issues with it. The difference is you’re getting fruit concentrate instead of the water boil method where it’s already “mixed”. I can jar up fruit concentrate and have it ready to go and save space on my shelves.

We have been using a steam juicer since the 1970's. A batch of cup up tomatoes to the top will give us over 1 1/2 gals. of juice. We wouldn't be without one. In fact we gave our 1st one to friends and purchased a second one which we have been using for 35 yrs. I also have done apple jelly in it. Ours look a lot bigger than yours. I also make my chicken and vegetable stocks in it.

My sister only uses hers for her Concord Grapes. She was processing for 45 to 60 minutes until we put less grapes in the top and got juice. The weight of the fruit packed in top meant the juice was being retained in the top. With less fruit the juice flowed freer.

Thanks for sharing. I also was looking at this device longingly, but then I saw how it worked, and I really don't want the condensed steam watering down my juice. I process a lot of apples, quince and blackberries. I have an induction stove top, so I have good efficiency. I have tried a screw press type of processor, which works well, but does leave a lot of fine pulp in the juice. So my current method is a regular press using cloth bags and some other modifications. And I don't get watered down juice, but it is a bit of a process.

I find other things to do around the kitchen or house while I'm waiting and just stick that hose thingy in a big pot so I don't have to watch it to close. Did you turn the heat on high? I always keep it boiling really good. Sounds like your good with what you were doing previously so thats good.

But I still enjoy the ease of using it and so I bought another one but more expensive and bigger qt. I like the current one, it’s from Norpro. I can tell the quality difference. You also don’t need to refill as often as the other one. I don’t even check often until 40mins or so, depends on the ripeness of the fruit. The best thing is I can save the pulp without being too juicy and messy.

Excellent info and honesty. I've have a question. Wouldn't one be also getting the water that's in the bottom into any juices? It steams and then falls. I've watched a few doing apples and when they're done, it's not as if the apples in the top are dry, therefore there is still lots of juice there. We know peaches are juicy, but with you only getting that much in a quart, wasn't most of that the water that was put into the bottom and steaming? P.S.--I have done juicing the old way and of course that obeliterates the fruit to really bust up the cells holding the water. For clear jelly you wouldn't press but if you didn't care, you press the fruit to get more juice. Question then is..........am I not correct that with this juicer, you're really not getting much of the actual fruit juice? I was debating on this steam juicer but couldn't wrap my head around just ending up with the juice of the fruit and not alot of added water.

I abolutely agree with you. This is a very slow method. Waste (time) and energy. Work with soft fruits maybe. I tried with apple. YES - me too - much faster with frozen! The cellulose is broken down already and a lot faster. With elderberries, it looks like there is a lot of juice missed, but when we put the "leftovers" in the Foley mill, there was very little juice left in spite of appearances. 5 Qt juice per steamer basket is pretty reliable with elders, about 45 min for fresh and maybe 25 for frozen. Estimate.
@nataliedyck8312

@@offplumbnan7562you are saying a basket of elderberries gives 5 litres (20 cups) of juice? That sounds like a lot of liquid. I’ve never heard of a steam juicer until a few days ago and it seems to me the juice would include a lot of steam as it would run down the pot walls as water.
@offplumbnan7562
@offplumbnan7562 11 месяцев назад
@@nataliedyck8312 Yup. Steam gos up, juice goes down. We often freeze the berries first - easier to remove from stems AND it juices quicker - the cellulose is already broken down by freezing. For jam we put the leftover mash through foley mill; for juice we don't.

Totally agree with nearly everyone else here, it's s case of user error. Firstly, don't run it at a ripping boil and water won't pour out. In my experience I have found that yes the juice is more concentrated. @maaritsteinwedel4351 11 месяцев назад
I agree with other comments, I’ve used this steam juicer for years, remember you are getting pure juice not watered down juice, it’s a concentrate. Then the steam issue you are having is because you are boiling the water too high of temperature. Mine never seeps over. The last thing is you get a pulp of fruit you can use that still retains all its flavor to make jams, puddings, sauces, pies. Maybe look on RU-vid to see how other people use it. Like I said, I grew up using this type of steam juicer and it is brilliant.
@zenophryk9419
@zenophryk9419 11 месяцев назад
I watched a bunch of video's and in a lot of the cases, the amount of juice being extracted was more than the amount of fruit being put in. Which makes sense since the steam really has no where to go but to condense back into water and end up in the juice collection section, therefore watering down the juice. It's going to be the opposite of a concentrate, since a concentrated juice would have less water in it that it does naturally . And you can't boil water at too high a temperature. the water boils at 212 deg F so it's kind of a self limiting process. Sure, you can have a slow or rolling boil, which is really just an indication that the entire water volume is getting to the same temp. but if the water were to get higher than 212, at standard sea level, it would no longer be liquid. She may have overfilled the water level, certainly possible. So while I think this type of juicer may be good for certain things, it certainly won't work for making jellies very efficiently like I was hoping.

Perhaps the "fruit" didn't have a lot of moisture and she forgot to add water for the steam to extract the juice and flavor? Maybe her fruit pieces were too large.

That I didn't know!! Rhubarb juice is definitely something I'm going to have to try next year. Thanks so much for watching:)

Just ran across your video. If I understand correctly, you filled the middle section with fruit but it is supposed to go in the top section. My steam juicer works beautifully. Pretty sure you just misunderstood and put fruit in wrong section. Give it another try with the fruit in the top 🙂

Great feedback :) i did put the fruit at the very top and it drips down into the middle section where the hole for the spout is and I did read the instructions before beginning. This type of steam juicer is only really useful if you're wanting to make jelly. However, I was making juice and in my experience waiting 2 hours for 500 ml of peach juice was just not what I'm wanting to do. Thanks for watching

@@angelasscrappykitchen peaches dont release as much juice as other fruits. ive used it for watermelons apples grapes ect ect and it gave me a good outcome. Before calling it "Junk" you may have needed to experiment more with it. i even use t to make tomato juice i love the final product. the more ripe the fruit is the more juice you get

I just used mine for first time tonight with tomato. Looks like I just got water out and very little tomato juice. I agree with author...this so far is the most disappointing item I've bought. Woah I had seen this video first and saved my money.

@@ChrisTrailI’ve used other kinds of steamers for cooking vegetables and other foods . In my 25 years cooking with it I’d say there is a lot of hot steam that turns into water that runs down the lid and walls of the pot. Im actually wandering if it’s just flavoured steam water

OK then the only thing left is that your stove is crappy. Maybe you have those little tiny 5000 BTU gas burners. Don’t use the center burner if it is the lowest BTU Unless you pay good dollars for your stove you’re better off cooking outside on a camp stove. Just pay the extra $3000 and get the good one. You won’t regret it as for the machine there excellent it’s never taken over 20 25 minutes for me. I do cut the beats and Asian pears in half.

Sounds to me like you put the fruit in the wrong compartment

Perhaps your fruit was still a bit young. Using fruit that's extra juicy and mature produces far better quality and quantities of juice than crisp fruit.

Ones opinion is not that of others. If you don't have the time to make juice, then do it your other way! Your video is not very helpful, except I hear criticism only. You are not using it correctly. Make sure the hose is pointed down. Here is another video you may want to look into! She got far more juice than you are leading onto. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x-UZSXpaIbM.html

That's not where I put it but thank you for your input. There is no lying in this video. This is my own personal opinion as a state multiple times in this video, but thanks for watching 😁
