French President Emmanuel Macron awarded the Legion of Honor, France's highest award, to three more US veterans. Joseph Miller, Arlester Brown and Richard Rung were among a total of 15 veterans recognized with the honor on Thursday at Omaha Beach in Normandy as President Biden and other leaders watched and spoke. President Joe Biden traveled to Normandy to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, honoring World War II survivors.

Beethoven's 9th Symphony: the ode to friendship. Sang first in French marvelously by the choir of kids and then joined in German by the no less impressive choir of adults. Glad to see some of those from the "Glorious Generation" still alive. We owe much to those brave men and women. Let their sacrifices have not been in vain now that totalitarian, bloody forces are starting to appear again all over the world. Macron did well in addressing them in special, even awarding them if not the greatest award of the French Republic: "Chevalier de la Légion D'Honneur". It would be similar to a knighthood in a Monarchy.

Great work by the choirs. That was great! Let us not forget this ever. Including the contributions from smaller nations to the invasion effort - it wasn't just Britain, France and the U.S. Canada had Juno Beach and landed an army there. Australia and New Zealand whose major contributions were in other theatres of the war still managed to put up five squadrons a piece under R.A.F. command - that alone was almost more than the aircraft that the Luftwaffe put up that day. There were Dutch, Poles, Czechs, Norwegians, Greeks, South Africans and more.

God Bless all our WWII veterans. On the 80tlh Anniversary of D-Day today, there are ceremonies honoring the American heroes who landed on the beaches of Normandy and defeated the Nazis. This is as it should be. What is not right, however, is that rarely are we honoring in our ceremonies the Soviet (Russian) heroes who bore the brunt of the battles to defeat fascism in World War II. Americans are not surprised when they hear that historians distort the truth, but most of us believe it is foreign historians, not ours, who are in the business of distortion. The truth about World War II is that the war against the Nazis was essentially already won a year or more before D-Day when American and British soldiers fought their heroic battle on the beaches of northern France. When General Dwight D. Eisenhower and the troops under his command landed at Normandy, however, the Soviet Union had already fought and won the decisive battles of the war. The “second front” opened by our side came, in fact, much later than the Soviet Union had hoped. Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin had been pressuring U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill for almost two years for the opening of a second front in Europe, arguing it would have spared many of the millions who eventually died on the continent.

The French were the first ones to ever give a military medal for act of bravery in combat to a US afro-american soldier of the Harlem Hellfighters in 1917, who went back to the US without any award nor recognition from his own military only to continue to suffer of racism and die in poverty, until being awarded the US medal of honor almost a century later by his own country. It took 100 years to his own country to honor his service. Oh and of course he and his brothers in arms of the Harlem Hellfighters weren't in Paris for the 14 July 1919 parade as USA preferred to send an all-white representation, despite the fact that the Harlem Hellfighters who fought under french command was the US unit that spent the longest time on the front line and saw more combat action than any other unit of all the American Expeditionary Force during WW1. Not a surprise though, France is also still waiting for a thank-you from USA for having allowed their country to exist as an independent country instead of a British colony. I dont remember that French veterans soldiers and sailors were awarded any kind of recognition from the people of USA, and we dont see many celebrations of France's instrumental role in allowing the US independence during 4th of July ceremonies. Like if Americans had won their revolution alone, whilst all it brought to France was a bankruptcy followed by a bloody revolution and 25 years of almost continuous war alone against all of Europe.
