Democratic counsel Daniel Goldman questioned Kurt Volker, the former U.S. special envoy to Ukraine, and Tim Morrison, a former White House official who served on the National Security Council, on Nov. 19, in a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. In response to questions from Goldman, Volker said pursuing issues relating to the “2016 elections or Vice President Biden or things I consider to be conspiracy theories circulated by the Ukrainians” serves the “national interest.” The impeachment inquiry has focused on a July 25 phone call in which Trump asked the president of Ukraine to investigate former vice president and 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
