Did you know? Antoni Norbert Patek (Polish visionary) employed Adrien Philippe (French watchmaker) as a technician director at his company PATEK in 1845. From 1851 Philippe became a shareholder and the company name was changed into Patek-Philippe & Cie.
Its rare to see such a calm and controlled delivery of common sense opinion about the hype watches. Generally i like the Patek's but some are ridiculously over priced. Thanks Nico....
5320 spot on Nico! It actually does have some history, loosely based on the piece unique steel reference 1591 commissioned by a “Maharaja” in India in the 1940s. Patek museum now owns that watch.
The 5711 Tiffany deserves to be in Hublot class. Literally is made for people with more money than sense, and is quite frankly a flem-riddled spit in the face of any Patek and Tiffany collector as it wasn’t even offered to any of either respective brands loyal customers and solely available to influencers. That watch and it’s release showed every collector what is exactly what’s wrong with the modern world of horology
Hmm... First of all, the watch was offered to specific people for $50k. VERY few people bought it in the millions of dollars. So in that sense it wasn't a watch for people who had more money than sense. Second of all, Patek didn't have any say. It was Tiffany, and more specifically, LVMH that wanted to leverage this to help Tiffany. The relationship between Patek and Tiffany has soured quite a lot after this.
One thing i absolutely love about is that hes not only entertaining but has a lot of wisdom that he shares as well, and i love that about him, keep at it man!
Nooooo 😢😢 Calatrava ref 5227 is actually a watch that really got me in to the watch world...! I respect his view but man, that watch was just a pure beauty in my eyes with that simplicity...! But oh well... 😭
Nico! You absolutely need to do this with all the other luxury brands as well. I think its a really good way to learn more about these brands by talking about their different watches in one video. I hope thats your plan☝️
Proud owner of the 5227R and mine is the Tiffany x Patek model. VERY RARE and I absolutely love the class of this watch. It was the first Patek I saw that I really wanted and am so happy to have it. Looking forward to owning others but this is an excellent piece with a lot of history behind it. Both Tiffany and Patek. 10:40
This guy saying the Calatrava is not beautiful, unbelievable but yes when there's not good taste there's not good taste. Maybe he was raised in a farm 🚜
But the thing with perpetual calendars is even tho it’s a cool complication you still have to set it often. For example the perpetual chrono is manuallly wound. If you forget one day or are busy with work on holiday etc or just not with your watch you’ll have to re-say that watch. When it goes for servicing also. There are people out there who think the PC won’t need to be set until 2100 but that’s simply not the case
I've had a 5712 for some time, and yes from my 'AD' yet still purchased a 5527J retrospectively - "Why?", not to get another sports piece, because when all the 'BS' subsides and uncover just how stunning it is, you'll discover something 30 years of collecting rewards you with. If you haven't had a closer look at a 5527, especially in yellow gold given the rotor matches the base metal, do yourself a favour. Being totally under-rated is exactly the point. Great video Nico you lunartic !
the 2 pateks i've got are both rose gold 5980 R1 and an 6102R happy you are willing to make an additional video about the 6002 and 6102 looking forward to it 😄
I actually love seeing ads like better help because everyone has battles that many will never know and just maybe someone can get help because of seeing these ads
I bought a watch from amzwatch lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
my favorite Patek is the 5720/1R with the 5205 in second place, and I also love the new calatrava color watches in the 6007 line. I just love the Patek grand complication lines, if only I could afford them. I love Patek's watches. As to the Twenty-Four line of womens watches with diamonds (both Quartz and Automatic), they are big sellers, because Patek realized that many women want a jewelry piece that also tells time, so they focused on that, and for that market they love it, and it comes with the Patek name. I know for a watch collector or reseller they are horrible, but you are not their market.
I just subscribed recently after coming across your short videos. I too struggle really badly with my mental health. I got into hiking before Covid and that really helped but when the Irish government put in travel restrictions to prevent the spread, i couldn't travel beyond 5km to go hiking somewhere and i went downhill fast.
I think your knowledge about the history and your ability to provide context and insight sets you apart! Keep your skills sharp here and keep it up! Great vid Also as an asian whose father's name was Ching - we understand
make a video about the most expensive watches already!! I"ve been asking for a long time and I think it would be interesting not only for Patek watches
Heard a funny story about how Paul Newman gifted his wife Joanne Woodward a Patek Philippe watch. However she was frustrated that it never worked well, so she actually had the MOVEMENT SWAPPED for a TIMEX MOVEMENT!
I speak with a shrink once a fortnight too, just in maintenance mode these days. IF you are clinically depressed you MUST seek appropriate medication and mental therapy. It saved my life.
luv,Luv,Luv these rating vids, so can u please do more like this on HUBLOT's hahah. No really can u do more on any of the Luxury high end brands just so we can get an idea of what you're feelings are on certain watches as your very reserved with your opinions on these matters 🤣🤣 Looking forward to the next brand choice if u decide to do one cheers. ⌚
Fun historical fact about watches: while watches didn't exist during the 14th century, rich-ass Duchess of Burgundy (also Countess of Flanders) Margaret used to have a clock the size of a church clock carried on a horse-drawn carriage closeby at all time while travelling. Social media millionnaires are meaningless compared to that level of flex.
As I’ve been saying for years watching watch prices going INSANE: every madness in history comes to an end at some point. People get tired, fed up, lose inertest, move on to the next madness… 🙃
As a dedicated 3 hand appreciator, I really don't understand PP. Having handled many, both new, current, and vintage, I have never felt anything. They leave me cold. And I don't get the feeling of quality or design that everyone bangs on about for hour after hour. Either it's over complicated, or non designed brutalist inspired disappointment. Very sorry that they don't make me feel, what obviously they do to others. So so many other watches that I like.
The calatrava would the best patek imo, if it was the right size for me, and if it had entirely hand finished movement. Better than the annual calendar😊
Great video! Super fun and informative! One thing that bugged me is the color scale of the tier list 😅usually red is associated with bad and green with good. Sorry, professional deformation from consulting and making too many useless powerpoint slides 😂
At 11:23. Yikes, a watch with a cheesey painting on the dial? ... and it's worth $1.5 million? Sure, it's a mechanical masterpiece but an aesthetic nightmare. I put the Patek Philippe 5531 in the Sh*te category.
