Dude thank you for noticing and mentioning it! This video vs. my usual content is 3 days working until midnight vs 4 hours editing. lol. I'm starting to build a team, and paying them more than the channel makes to surge quality so I'm glad it's appreciated.
I like that you keep improving video quality by adding effects and funny lines. As for the update: 1. Video AF and overall video experience is highly improved after this update , simply because eye detection is acquired much more accurately, distantly and snappy, while it could lose face detection from time to time and I felt like previously I was using wide area AF more precisely than auto-area AF. 2.Having very quick eye detection even that further(obviously not on canon level, cause the box size is not small enough) when u are shooting people is much more pleasing and you make your shot quicker knowing that it is locked on eye already, rather than seeing red boxes wandering on your subject. 3.Using EVF and not LCD monitor , I felt refresh rate is better in EVF, I don't know maybe it's just my eye that feels like that. 4.I have done 12k shots on Z5 before this update, and most of them are portraits, the accuracy of focusing in drastically improved. on AF-S it never had issue, the matter was AF-C. 5.Low light focusing to my eye seems a bit better , although not much. 6. Z5 is a camera that needs prime lenses to cover some AF and low light weaknesses. To sum up my thoughts , I really like this update , but as much as I like it, I would have liked to have wide area AF eye detection enabled , which is so reliable when you are burst shooting or shooting a particular subject in a crowd. Now Z5 is very capable camera for its price and kills some near competitors out.
Thanks for commenting. It’s that good ole Nikon stuff not letting AF be a universal factor. I wish they’d let FPS, BSI, and pretty much anything else be the difference in price from camera camera. Autofocus, should be “Nikon Auto Focus” universal among the brand
All the extra work you are putting in on your videos is definitely showing 👌. Hopefully, you end up catching a giant wave of channel growth to reward all of the efforts. You inspired me to update the firmware in my Z5, and I rarely update firmware. Thanks 👍
I just updated Z5 to new firmware 1.42 and it appears to be more sticky on subjects in video, and I like that I can touch the screen to move between subject points on screen and it refocuses quickly. Thanks for a great review. I am just happy Nikon provides updates including eye detect. I will also need more testing to see just how accurate the focus is, but it seems an improvement. I also own D780, so using Z5 for video and street photos. Thanks again.
Great job on the video! These things make me think there is more to be gotten from the Z6II. The other cameras are getting firmware updates with features that matter, crickets on the Z6/7 II.
I think Chuck @AP Studios is right when he mentions Nikon waiting on the arrival of version 3 before updating 6ii and 7ii firmware. Lol a dirty but effective business trick 🤦♂️
@@ZWadePhoto Yeah, I put out a video about that, which became a topic as part of the stream. I’m sure many other people thought the same. It’s hard not to think that when you see the other guys doing something similar to breathe more life into their older gear, after a newer body has been on the market for a bit. Nikon needs to do something before more people jump ship or new people don’t look in their direction.
Ok, I want the atamos ninja 5 now!!! great video. And good job Nikon on getting the firmware updates out, and a new Z9 one today! Booooom !!!! Have a great day.
Loved your video. Lots of effort and it is seen and appreciated. After watching it, I did my first firmware update since 1.0. I've had this for 2 (3?) years and it was on the shelf cuz of the AF. HOLY ****! It is way better. It's not a Z9 but I'd put it up with the 6ii albeit inferior sensor, etc (not by too much).. I was going to sell it since I preordered the ZF (thin the herd) but damn I may keep it. Probably finally sell the D810.
The thing is, it could be all just placebo because of the stickier tracking box, w/c necessarily doesn't translate to quicker hardware - software reaction / interaction. Oh well, we may never know whether it's just an illusion or not, i personally would have preferred a 1 or 2 fps bump, which I believe is only a software limitation.
Similar to what I’m finding. The video is for sure improved. But photo wise it isn’t clear YET if it’s more accurate than before. Thanks for commenting buddy!
Thank you for noticing the effort! I’m trying to scale up the quality to make it more visually appealing, engaging and entertain. It’s easily a 300% increase in work but I’m loving the results
I actually have no idea. Lol my videographer has lav mics that run through an app and time code to his RED Komodo, and, in post I used my regular audio work flow. Actually doing it in Davinci Studio right now and it sounds super good with less effort.
I just finished one of my pro session with FW 1.4 in industrial type of photography where I am using Single Point AF option only. I definitely noticed much better (faster and more accurate) results then before. In this case it was used 24-200 Z lens only. Eye detection and tracking is not my thing, but short check shows great improvement here as well. If Single point AF accuracy and score improved as I think it is, then all other modes will benefit too.
Hey Zach.. great video. Just a suggestion... I would get your model to introduce herself or you introduce her... whatever.. just to make the content more engaging.. keep up the great content!
Great suggestion. The next video like this I actually do that. I have hired a model specifically for this channel and everyone should get to know her as time progresses!
Oooh, is that why i cant assign recall focus function on the body of the z5 when the 180-600 is mounted? Hopefully another FW will be out soon so the z5 will support more lens
I’m looking to upgrade from a Panasonic lumix lx-10 (point and shoot camera). Would you recommend the Z5 over the Z30 for video content? I don’t care about photography… I would only use it to make a thumbnail. Thank you
ru-vid.com56owLvJ5iMI?feature=share I find the AF in low light to be pretty good in single point. Which an experienced photographer would know to fall back on when the going gets tough. As for the background focus it was fine, not great, with its firmware updates it’s WAY better than it was at launch
@@ZWadePhoto thanks Ive currently got a D750, I was going to move to Sony with the A7R5, mainly because of the Tamron 20 -40 which cover my prime lens use, Ive always avoided the Z cameras because for every good review you get a bad review, but you seem pretty positive with your experience - thanks for the link
@@markshirley01 no problem. Nikon I feel has corrected many of the issues that people initially had, but RU-vid content creators have yet to forgive them. Nikon bashing is like a game on RU-vid haha. Maybe wait and see what the Z8 brings before you jump brands. You’re in a good position to contemplate the right decision for YOU because you’re still in DSLR. 👌
I’m sure it probably is. Af-S is as simple for a camera to think about as it gets. Besides Manual focus haha. Camera doesn’t have to observe the scene to find what it thinks you want :)
Off topic / as of today, I believe "flintlock" and "leerothman" or other names flintlock uses are the same person... He must be a troll. my guess... This video was awesome btw.
@@ZWadePhoto I appreciate your work Mr. Z and when i see injustice or perceived injustice it doesn't sit well with our great civilized state of well being and the pursuit of happiness in our country. God bless.
Brooo!!! First off... I thought I had subbed to your channel when I first made a comment on one of your "RU-vid shorts"... It's funny if I just say "shorts" because it comes out not right hahaha Anyways, I do have z5 too and I use it professionally on weddings and such. And when I updated mine, I can confirm that the camera is a new beast!!! In terms of auto focus, it used to do only face detection and I learned to leverage that even in the dark (like a club/bar/concerts). But I can attest that when I used the video with the new update.. just last weekend on a client at a party event in a dance club (very lowlight) and it is very sticky on the eye, even at pretty far distance. Somehow the auto focus seems better. Maybe because I'm using a z lens (aka Tamron mock if 28-75mm) that improves it much better as opposed to ftz. But on the other hand on a focal distance of 50mm... the af seems so much faster and accurate. Although I was on a dark environment and was only able to do video. Thus coming weekend I will be covering a carshow on both photo and video. Then I will see the full potential of the new firmware. Also!! This firmware now supports nikon bt controllers such as nikon ML-L7!! That means that a 3rd party controller such as Aodelan should work! I purchased one (for 29 bucks) and tested it out and it actually works!! Perfect for video if I want to rig a grip for recording. Zoom works too (digital only). With that being said, this firmware also now supports nikons mc-n10 remote for videographers out there who has some money to burn lol!!! Woot woot!!!😅
@ZWade Photo nah man, thank you for providing awesome info to the public out there! Especially for z5 users🤙 I should expect more suggested videos of you in my feed now lol I had to search for yours and was wondering why it won't show on my feed when I thought I had subbed lol
@@iamphotovideoist I’ll forgive you for not pressing hard enough on the sub button, but Didn’t anyone teach you how to please a like and sub button? See when a content consumer and sub button love each other very much… Lmfao. Thank for coming back buddy 👌👌👌
