I am 53 and retired at 50. 1 thing I did do to retire early was to get out of the 401K and IRA programs. Bought rental real estate and I am now a Limited Partner in about 3500+ units. I don't work.

I only contribute 5% to get full company match, that’s it. The 401K plan is designed for you to work until you are about dead. Also, the government does not have their hands on it yet either.

My wife and I live off our 401K. We don't work. I highly recommend to everyone to build your 401K or Roth IRA's as an alternate income stream in retirement to your Social Security. An observation on 401K's is when it gets over 300K it starts to accelerate. When you get over 500K it can really accelerate as the stock market grows.

Man, i spent 27 years in the private sector as an IT manager, and i have to say that these government employees who dont know what, why, or how things are happening in their wheelhouse would never survive working in the private sector. The private sector has expectations and performance levels way above the pay grade of these chuckleheads. Its unfortunate Americans dont hold our public servants to the same performance standards we are held to.

I completely agree with you. The problem is, how do we hold them accountable? Once they get in office, it’s very difficult to get them out. They are supposed to represent us, but most of them don’t. I wish we could simply fire them at will, like an employer. Government is too big, suffers from systemic corruption and the checks and balances have gone by the wayside. Other than praying (which I do believe works) and writing to these people, or possibly getting enough states together to hold a Convention of States to make changes like, term limits and fiscal responsibility, I don’t know what we can do.

True. Governments by their nature are incompetent to perform because everyone focuses on reelection from the day they are elected. I'm in Canada and two years ago we were attacked by our own government for speaking out against it which is a guaranteed right. Now a COVID app is being shown to have cost many times what it would have cost in the private sector and the government doesn't know why. We all need to open our eyes and see what is getting ready to take us down.
