Thought I wasn't going to like it, but pleasantly surprised by her respect for the sanctity of nature! Yes, foxes are ridiculously cute, but they are wild & need/deserve to stay that way! Love Dora & her garden!

I am the same way. I have a few acres and I have all kinds of wildlife that feel safe on my property. Dove hunting is allowed here at certain times of the year. Like swans, they mate for life and it breaks my heart that these lovely birds with their soothing coos are harmed in any way. I began feeding some through winter, and put out feed for other birds as well. Now I've got about 4-5 generations of doves and other birds that come back every spring. Just as dawn breaks, I head out to do chores and let out my goats and chickens and get all the animals fed. By then, the doves have gathered on electric lines across the road waiting for me to put food out for them too. The younger fledglings have become so accustomed to seeing me every day that they don't fly away immediately with the older, wiser birds, when I unexpectedly appear. I really don't want them tame or unafraid, because I may no longer be here one day, and it would be a tragedy to have these lovely birds be easy targets for hunters. I once lived far out in the woods in Washington state. I had 2-3 generations of raccoon that I fed. I used to put a pile of dog food near the edge of the woods and wait to see what appeared. One early evening, I saw a coyote come out from the dense brush and begin eating. At the same time, from another direction, I saw one of my raccoon coming. She had to have heard the coyote crunching the dog kibble...yet she didn't seem aftaid. Once she felt close enough to the pile of food, maybe about 18 inches from the coyote, she just cautiously reached out a paw and began eating. The coyote bared it's teeth, but neither seemed truly antagonistic. And the two of them just calmly ate together...no longer hunter and prey. I also had deer that visited every night. But when I knew I was moving away, I gradually began rationing out the food less and less so they were no longer depending solely on me. I knew eventually they would stop coming....I wish I could have brought them all with me to my farm. People say raccoon are vicious, but living with them for several years, I realized the only time raccoon appeared aggressive was when they had babies in hiding nearby. I learned that if a usually somewhat welcoming raccoon gave me a low growl, there were probably babies somewhere close. I have a great photo of 2 baby raccoon that Nicki had on a low tree branch and let me get close enough to take a pic. Nicki trusted me enough to bring her 2 babies to see me from then on. I do miss them all...what an honor to be trusted by these wild creatures. I saw on a news report of a man in Oregon who has many acres, and he does not allow hunting on his land. During hunting season, literally hundreds of deer show up and stay on his property...it was a truly amazing thing to see.

The day people realize all animals are special and have emotions and feelings and deserve to be treated with love and respect will be the day humanity opens its eyes.

The fact that Dora refuses to touch or pet Faith is something incredible. It shows that she respects Faith as a wild animal. Wild animals don't need our affection. They can have our praise, but we ultimately must give them respect, and the number one point of respect is to not touch them. It is the animal's choice of whether or not they want to be touched or if they crave affection. And the fact Dora does not pet Faith ups my respect for her.

wow her approach is the BEST.....respecting the Fox's space and freedom and still sharing all the love...so empowering it is!...it's how all animals should be treated...when approached by animal we love them but let them be.....that way we would be able to connect with them in a deeper level instead of claiming ownership of them and domesticating them and making their life miserable!

What she said about touching, was very important for various reasons. People always tend to carelessly stroke and pet dogs or cats, as if they're their stuffed animals. They claim to love doggies and kitties, but they never actually stop to think that "this is another person I'm touching. Am i showing respect? Or am i just satisfying my urge?"
