Watch Live: Day 4 - Closing Arguments in Joel Guy Jr. on Trial for Allegedly Dismembering Parents

NOTE: TN is a DP state, but DP is not being sought in this case.
Tennessee man Joel Michael Guy Jr., 32, stands trial in the horrific 2016 murders of his parents Joel Michael Guy, Sr., 61, and Lisa Guy, 55. The trial is scheduled to run Monday, September 28 to Friday, October 2, according to records. The Law&Crime Network will be live each day with coverage running from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET.
The defendant’s three sisters reportedly told authorities everything seemed okay when the family sat together for Thanksgiving in 2016. But just days after that final get-together, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office said Joel Guy Jr. murdered his parents in especially horrifying fashion. Both victims were stabbed and dismembered, their remains placed in different rooms of the house, deputies said.
Authorities suggested the murders happened sometime between Friday, November 25, or the middle of Saturday, November 26. Guy Jr. allegedly put his parents’ remains in “an acid based solution” to destroy evidence.
Investigators said that the defendant, who had been in living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after reportedly withdrawing from Louisiana State University, returned home on the 27th after killing his parents. His parents were last seen alive on Friday the 25th.
Authorities say that Guy Jr. killed his parents after they told him they would no longer pay his bills.
Someone wants the possibility of the death penalty for this case. It’s not the prosecution. The defendant recently asked that he be allowed to represent himself in motions that request the judge and jury be allowed to consider capital punishment in the event of a conviction.
To be clear, the state is not pursuing the death penalty for him. The reason why is currently unclear.
“Ethical rules prohibit the District Attorney’s Office from commenting on pending cases,” said Sean McDermott, a spokesman for Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen, said in an email to Knox News.

No matter if parents indulge and spoil their children?? It is NOT their fault when a child does this type of thing. I wonder if you are a parent? My best friend of 33 years was the best mom you could ever dream of. Yes - she DID let them "eat dessert before dinner" etc. EVERYTHING pointed to these kids being amazing, and I mean everything. Circumstances happened that her husband of 25 years (seemed to be a normal loving person) up and left and tried to take the kids that were 12 and 17. He was willing to give them anything they wanted They turned on her so fast it was breathtaking. All for money and things and priviledge. and I do not think for two seconds it was because she "let them eat dessert before dinner" They saw opportunity to get whatever they could and whatever they wanted from their dad. I do NOT think that how they were raised would turn them so evil.

Masterful rebuttal by Prosecutor Leslie Nassios. It was so impactful when she pointed at the portable shelving unit stacked with evidence bags and said; "she paid for all of this," (referring to the fact that the defendant's mom financially carried and bankrolled every part of this grown man's life.) This bloated mosquito purchased all of the materials to kill and dismember his parents using the money that his Mom gave him. He never worked a day in his life. What a disgusting, weak, hideous little toad he is. No offense to toads.

I know a person who is an adult who grew up to hate a parent because the parent coddled them so badly as a child that they had difficult time standing on their own two feet, failure to launch, afraid of the world, and to this day has no respect for that parent as an adult even though as a child they liked being coddled. Joel Jrs parents coddled him and he grew to hate them. He didn’t love them and had no problems killing them. He blamed them for his inabilities to get along independent of them. Then when they cut him off, the hate he always felt took action. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't want to be on the defense team. I'm surprised he didn't just say, look...he did it, no doubt. .then plead for less prison time. But, to attack the prosecution's case is just ineffective and may have an adverse result that will cause jurors to detest the defense for thinking they can't reason thru the obvious evidence. I'm not sure why he thought the bodies would degrade so much they wouldn't be able to determine cause of death or why he didn"t follow thru with his plan of disposing evidence. Did he get tired from all the physical and emotional exertion it took to do what he had done? Why did he go ahead and use the money to pay his bills knowing full well this was traceable and would end with his arrest. He knew he eventually would be caught..just left too much evidence. ..so why go on with the charade. He obviously was not happy after and knew the life he earlier envisioned was never to come to fruition. I hope we will learn more regarding his train of thought before, during and after this horrific event.

It almost brought me to tears listening to the recount of these heinous despicable murders of joel jrs loving parents. This is the only time I haven't felt sick to my stomach looking at joel jrs face during the trial, when he had to sit there and listen to the state's wonderful presentation of what he did and what a horrible person he is.
