The music for this episode was amaizing

And the penny drops. :) The show’s been dropping subtle hints (which, to be honest, I missed entirely on my first watch) about Varney all season. I think my fave is when he’s talking to Ratko in one of the first few episodes and says something like “I’m Varney of London…since before it was London”. If we say that London was founded around 50 CE and this story takes place in the late 1400s, that would mean Varney was saying he was over 1500 years old, making him older than Dracula (by far) based on a quick internet search of Castlevania game lore. There are many other hints, but that one tickles me.

I love how this show takes the source material and re-interprets it. I played all the old Castlevania games and may of the newer ones, and Death's role has varied. Originally he was Dracula's loyal servant, and considered his only actual friend. He was famous for usually being the penultimate boss, and was often as tough, if not tougher, than Dracula himself. I believe in later games (spoiler warning I suppose?), his role became more of a puppet-master, luring the then-human Dracula into vampirism. That's clearly the direction the show went. I also like the way the source material affected the characters - Dracula is obviously based on the Bram Stoker novel, while Varney comes from an 18th century penny dreadful Varney the Vampire. Dracula is the height of class and sophistication, while Varney - even as demigod Death - is a foul-mouthed cockney jerk. Clever writers.

lol yeah i hate to admit it but yeah i did cry too. it was rough seeing my boy drac being a puppet and going mad. then trev omg that last fight hit me so hard. it funny after watching this fight and comparing it to the game. i forgot death is a mini boss you have to fight in all games. death is one of the hardest bosses in video game history ranking in #8 in the top 50 for the nes back in the 90's. anyways you might wana check out hellsign ultimate if your looking for something else to watch afterwards you find it on crunchy roll
