High in the frozen Arctic, musk oxen have been roaming the tundra for thousands of years. Their long, shaggy hair makes them well-adapted to the frigid climate as they roam the tundra in search of roots, mosses, and lichens.

These creatures live in the most unforgiving and merciless weather conditions. What are your thoughts on musk oxen being able to survive in the Arctic?

I believe it truly exemplifies the resilience of life. To adapt and to thrive conditions that seem uninhabitable. And, to the beauty found in the flora and fauna that have endured there.

Even animals meant to survive the harshest climates are affected by climate change. Yes, climate change is constant thing, but humans' industrial advancement has accelerated the process so much that it leaves little time for most species to adapt/evolve to suit changes. Not an expert in the matter, just an opinion. Thanks for sharing National Geographic

It's evolution, nature and life will adapt. Even if there was a nuclear winter right now and close to all life becomes extinct, there will be new and better species capable of adapting to the current climate. That's nature.

This. I took a few ecology classes and that is exactly right. The earth's climate has its ups and downs and are in a cycle. These changes usually takes tens thousands of years to go from cycle to cycle. Currently, it looks like we are accelerating it where it may take a few hundred or a thousand years. It won't end life, but there could be mass extinctions. That being said, the mass extinctions of dinosaurs, did allow mammals to flourish and humans to exist.

I'm a vegetarian; I've never owned a car; I'm also a teacher teaching ecological awareness to young minds; I get my energy from a supplier that only works with renewable sources; I volunteer with Greenpeace and other green groups where I live; plus I research and do my best to never give money to companies that profit from destroying the biosphere. If given the chance, I would live off the grid. (PS: don't really know why you've capitalised the 'YOU' in your reply, but it seemed to me you were accusing me of hypocrisy. If so, then yes, I am to blame, as is everyone who lives under our self-destructive death-driven civilisation).

By the time the arctic ice starts to melt down, the musk oxen may have shed some of them thick furs and began adaptation mode to warmer climates ahead.. a long shot and it’ll probably wipe them out before they know it, sadly taking the rest of us along in their wake. Not at all impossible. It’s here.
