New music video by me, again, hello! Watch it: • DJ Mustard, Nicki Mina... And if you were wondering, yes I'm still working on a new personal film! Stay tuned
Hey friends! Just want to say that whether or not the music is your thing, these guys were cool enough to risk letting me animate interspecies sex to promote a club song. I don’t have any other income besides freelance jobs like this one, and after a very long hiatus from work while focusing on my upcoming short film, I was nearly broke. I had to take several months off my film because of a string of bad clients that would fall through, cut my pay or not pay me at all. But this music video, which as well as giving me heaps of creative freedom, has helped my funds enough that I can finally return to working full time on my latest film for all of you, and you all get to see it so much sooner than otherwise. So if you’re a fan of me, please be respectful to my employers in the comments! Love you all xoxo
Why is everyone so butthurt about Felix doing what most artists do: getting paid to work in industry? It's unrealistic and selfish to expect him to work for hours for free to provide us with seconds of video that he can't even monetize.
they dont say he shouldnt have done this, they say nicki minaj is full of shit, and this is sad for felix to have to do that, sure he get paid, but thats like washing a wc.
+Mantis47 that's what happens. It personally made me cringe to see Felix make something for this track, and it seems horribly out of place so I can see how that can lead to a knee jerk reaction to call him a sellout and shit. He probably predicted the backlash too.
I'm really glad you scored this gig man. I don't like the song but the animation is amazing as always. Though, I do think your previous music video is still my favourite.
Lego Insomniac You know the shittiest part? In the actual vevo Felix wasn't credited for doing literally 85% of the work. His name was on screen for like, half a second and then in the description they have credits but give none to Felix. Felix said to respect the "artists" he worked with on this but I just can't really be fair with them on this because of how they did Felix like that. I mean yeah, he got paid for his work but literally nobody will know who animated it because the credit isn't even seen to the naked eye unless you pause it or slow the video down. They just did him dirty and it gives me a sour taste in my mouth
You know if months ago any of you came and told me that Felix Colgrave was going ot make an animated video for a Nicki Minaj song, I would've answered "Wait, who are you? What are you doing in my house!? I'll call the police!" No, but seriously tho, really great job, visuals really match the rhythm of the song, and it's got the weird touch we all love from your animations. Pro job.
For real, I'm glad to see Felix is really getting out there hopefully getting some well-deserved recognition. I bet we'll see him pop up on even bigger projects now that he's got more than just his foot in the door.
I love how weird Felix's animations are, and this one is weird in a whole different way. I love how the emotion of the scenes molds so smoothly from the normal air of danger to the unnatural air of love. Worth the wait!
"you obviously have no respect or understanding of animation or being an artist in general." not exactly. The term 'starving artist' isn't a phrase for a reason. Even great artists and animators need to do jobs they don't like to pay the bills and necessities. I respect Felix a ton for his work even though I don't like the company he worked for BUT I understand why he did it.
...or understanding of paying bills or buying food, or being an adult or a fruitful member of the human race. the term "sellout" is such a clueless hippy copout for "i dont like it when someone successful reminds me im a bum"
I have to say I'm loving the diversity of art style with this music video. As a freelance artist myself, I can't keep doing the same thing over and over. I start to feel like I'm "stale" or "predictable". I want people to see me grow and expand my talent. Felix, I love your trippy artwork you do and that's why I fell in love in the first place, but I am so proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone. And to get to work with quite reputable people. That's going to be amazing resume material. So in short, from one artist to another, super proud and can't wait to see what you produce next. 💕
Congrats on getting to animate a music video for some big artists, and I hope you get to animate for other big singers soon. I don't really care for their music, but your excellent animation was enough to make me watch the video. I just wish they had given you some credit in the description.
Felix, my favorite artist, animator.. Seeing you make an animation for these big celebs makes me so happy. I hope you become even more famous and successful, your art deserves so much appreciation!
I liked the song, and I think your animation fitted it really well. Obviously ALOT of effort put into it, and I hope it boosts you a bit and catches the attention of other artists/ freelance work. Keep up the work mate, your definitely one of my favourite content creators , and I'm subbed to about 400 different channels on youtube!!
I personally think your art style is more suited to more experimental genres of music (like Fever the Ghost's alternative indie psychedelic stuff), but I do really like the color choice in this one. Fits the atmosphere of the song. Nice work!
The animation is Amazing!! Even thought I'm not a big fan of the music, I love how used the music and brought it into the animation. Also I'm really looking forward to see your next film!
Felix, great video. It's got an awesome smoothness to it. Really disappointed they didn't credit you in it at all, but hey, you got paid! I would like to see you get a little more recognition. Can't wait to see your new stuff, and I'm really glad you're still at it. Peace!
It's great to see you working on what you love. Must have been fun working on this one. Especially nice to hear you can work on your personal project now, though, so well done Felix.
Watching the full video made me realize how badly I would break my replay button if Crystal Castles asked you to make a music video... Everything you do is magical. Thanks for inspiring me to look at the world in a new way once again!!
I love your work, every single thing. it confusses me alot but you're really one of my inspirations~ and I seen the full video clip of this, and I laughed at how you made things so sexual hahaha
Not a good sign for a musician when the visuals are so much more impressive than the song people watch the video on mute. But really good on Felix for getting some professional work.
Nick Cross and Felix Colgrave my two favourite youtube animators! Nick I know you're probably asked this all the damn time, but what happened to Black Sunrise?
It's crazy Felix because you're a sensation. You're name is so well known in the animation fan base (all the way back from newgrounds). You should not have to go through the kind of stress you are going through, really. How long before you're famous already!? PS. Fever the Ghost, The Elephant's Garden and Tainted Goods are my favorite. F*ckin' love Tainted Goods.
Well i watched the music video without reading the discription....i was happily drinking my coffee as well and when the thing with the bat and the moth came up i spat my coffee on myself XD. But it was pretty amazing. Keep up the great work felix :3
I liked it. I see people complain it's not as crazy as your previous work but to me it's not supposed to be as crazy because of the feel of the song and you did your best trying to interpret that mood through your animation.
