Before I watched, I got the impression he was stealing the show, but the fact he clears it with the teams makes it a-ok and fun. Also the fact that he's loud makes it easy for the players to know what's exactly going on (as a player having had loud umps, that's important)
Eddie umped my game this past weekend and it was great. There's no issue with it because you strike out, you strike out! Just go and get it next time. We are a Sunday recreational league with a bunch of 18 + guys who are there to have fun and play ball. With Eddie it makes things a lot better. We pay to play and don't have all the theatrics during a regular MLB game like throwing t-shirts, contests and "kiss-cams." We don't have hot dogs and beer, just a field and people who play in it. All you haters just keep hating. We're there for the love of the game and Eddie makes it all the better for us wanna-be MLB'ers.
Because he's not alert to anything around him when he does this shit. What if a guy tries to steal home plate while the pitcher's turned around? He can't fuckign call it.
I'm an umpire too. As a real umpire, you never ever turn your hat backwards like that. Now, having said that, this dude is entertaining as heck and we need this kind of lightheartedness. Go blue!
Blue I'd like to protest that the runner on 3rd base didn't touch home plate after the strike out did you see it? No coach I didn't see it cuz I was dancing around after your player got K.
Djudjdbd Fgvv what I'm saying is all the dancing around he's doing, theirs no way this guy has his head in the game. His got to be calling ball four strikes just to dance. if you read other comments, most are saying the same thing, he's drawing the attention to himself. Now my comment is referring to a coach making an appeal on a call he thinks the ump missed. but all the dancing around he can't see other things going on in the game. Remember on a strike 3 the ball still alive and in play runners can go, the ump running up the 1st base line, a runner on 3 can run home. If am the coach my runner is going, cuz the catcher is probably looking at the ump dancing. The game is for the kids not this yo yo.
That guy is awesome when it comes to a strike out. I would to to see him live and make it to MLB calling the plays like that. Keep on putting on a awesome show....I LIKE!!!
He is having fun and I would love to see more of this. He is respectful and face it baseball is like watching paint dry. I would love to see a great pitcher and him behind the plate.
Haha this guy is great. He respects the game and makes sure everyone is cool with it. It’s not that serious clearly and he’s having as much fun as the players. Nothing wrong with this. He’s actually taking the time to work his craft and make it his own! Love it my man. As a 12 year vet myself, this makes everyone laugh and makes them try harder not to K! Lol.
As an umpire, I can appreciate keeping the game fun. The fact Eddie clears this with both teams and managers makes it okay, I guess. Not the way I call strikes though. We use this video at our local clinics to instruct new umpires how NOT to call a strike! As some of the previous comments state, it's about the kids. I always feel, when the game is over, nobody should remember the umpires. It appears Eddie is a local celebrity. I doubt he'd be very popular in some of the tournaments I do though.
I'm a high school umpire and Mr. Reed gives justice to making the right call. Why anyone would argue with him would take guts and managers or players would be bent over with humor. You go Eddie!
Love this guy. The fact he checks with both teams before doing this is really cool. I don't really undersatnd baseball but I know that striking out ain't too good but it's great that the guys were smiling after striking out. I think he's doing a great job.
Referees, Umpires or any other game official should NEVER, EVER make themselves the center of attention. A good game by a referee is when you blend into the background and the player and fans barely notice you were there. I have been a referee for over 30 years and I simply find this type of show boating completely unacceptable.
What impresses me the most he respects each team enough to ask for permission. He doesn't have to like either team but he respects them. Entertaining Eddie
Years ago there was a MLB umpire, in the AL IIRC, named Emmet Ashford. He was about 50% of Eddie but he was still great to watch. Even his dusting off the plate was something to see. I would go to a game just to see Emmett. This is what's missing in baseball today. The umps, the players, everything is so vanilla these days. We could use an Eddie Reed in MLB today to liven things up. After all, all of sports is really just entertainment.
Favorite umpire calls from this one ump I had Strike 1: *hut-WHO!!* Strike 2: *hut-HUUUT!!* Ball 1: _no-no_ Ball 2: _nuh-uh_ Ball 3: _no-way_ Walk: BallFour _takeyourbase_ Strikeouts he'd always do something crazy like this guy 😂 and every now and then he'd hit a good strike with a *YAHHHH* and every bad ball with a _no-sirrr_
This is disgusting, unprofessional and demeaning to the player the call is against. The umpire is NOT the show !! There is no room in the game for this nonsense. We had one of these game show host clowns in senior slow-pitch and he was so focused on doing his little dances and putting on his theater that it called into question the calls them selves. He ended up on the wrong side of a player on the parking lot.
Context is everything. In a high level competitive game, I’m pretty conservative with my moves. For a fun league like this, I might do different moves.
It's an adult league. I umpire at the college level. Yes his technique is not acceptable at big levels. But for this. I see why they are just having fun.
Lol country Joe is always preoccupied with where he's going to eat and play guitar after the game. Big Eric Greg was a jovial fun loving mlb umpire back in the day.
I love this guy, he's umpiring games that are for fun not competitive, and he's putting on a show that players, coaches and fans think is funny. As long as he makes the right calls and does his thing at the right time I think it adds amusement to the game of baseball which in this day and age is starting to become a more boring sport. This is coming from a player and an ump
I wouldn't have a issue with his yelling and his "theatrics" if it wasn't effecting his judgment calls for looking third strikes, but I get this feeling his strike zone with 2 strikes gets ridiculously huge so he can call get into his "theatrics" and make it about him. At 2:11 you can see that was clearly a ball, but he called it a strike just to put on his show. It's not fun for a batter knowing that the umpire is going to want to punch you out on a ball just so he can put on his show.
I don't understand why people have such a big issue I would like to have this guy as an umpire. The video even shows him asking both teams if they're ok with it. he likes to make it more fun and even the people that stikeout are laughing
My travel team has this umpire named Greg who screams "YYYYYESS THAT'S OOOONNNEEE" and "YYYYYESS THAT'S TWOOOOOOOOO" for the first strikes. Luckily I never saw anyone take a backwards K.
Lmao I’ve had only one ump like this😂 he would be like for strike threes “Oop there it is” but this one time I remember one of my teammates got plunked right in the stomach area and he was like “Ooh got him right in the bellaaaaay”
He was my umpire once best game I’ve ever played and I pitched and struck out the last batter of the game and he said nah nah nah naaa nah nah nah naaaa heyyyayo goodbye STRIKE THREEEEE
Coach: Blue, the runner is safe on first; he beat the throw on dropped strike three!!!!Eddie Reed: Coach, get up off me!!! Can't you see I'm entertaining the fans??!!
