The thing is...Picasso really knew how to draw, he had all the technique internalized. The only thing is that in the end he chose this style to express himself ... it is not difficult to understand
@johanna2059
@johanna2059 Год назад
So if Picasso really knew how to draw as you say, why didn't he draw as if he knew how? Why draw like a toddler? Why draw as if he hadn't an ounce of artistic talent? Why didn't he leave behind art that's bursting with talent, instead of these doodles that a toddler could do better? I think he'd have made a better poker player, he's good at bluffing.
@thatsacloud
@thatsacloud 3 года назад
I don't particularly like Picasso's art, not saying it's bad it's just not my cup of tea. But I wanted to express some stuff regarding what some comments said. Picasso is really good at painting, before coming up with his distinctive style he made very beautiful and detailed works. Getting to that level is hard and requires practice, but after so much practice and hardwork you kinda stop enjoying it or feel stuck and art block hits you. When we were children we don't overthink about our art, we don't plan, we dont stress over it. We just do it. So after years and years of practice and stressing about getting better at thw technical things of art we kinda loose that charm that's about just drawing without worries and enjoying it. And it's extremely hard to go back to that state. Picasso is just doing this, takig a break from being structured and letting himself draw what the moment desires, that basically pure expression. He didn't get worse, he still has his skills, but he's just worrying more about expressing than being visually appealing or correct.

Guys, stop making comments about "why arent 4 year olds famous then?" Picasso could draw very realistically but he chose to do abstract art, why? Because it isnt about the realism, it's about the meaning that matters for alot of art, he cared about the art and had a meaning for it and did it first, that's why he's famous.

For people, sh*tting on Picasso's drawing: He's a skilled artist and did realism and other difficult genres too. His realism is also quite impressive but it was already very common and so it did not gain popularity. He mastered art at a very young age. It's just that people only know his avant garde paintings because his style was "new" at the time and it was kind of rebellious. But he even made sculptures, ceramics and other things. Also, if you noticed, you can see that he is a well-experienced artist by the way his hand grips the brush and how smooth the brush lands on the canvas and goes to make another line. When a child doodles something like this, their grip for the pen is usually stiff which is the reason why their drawings have broken lines. I am an artist too and I know how to distinguish someone who is a beginner and a pro just by the way that they use their brush.

Honestly one thing I admire about him is how lightly he holds his brush, pen, whatever. Alot of artists like me grip it hard because we are worried about shaky lines, lineweight, details. But he's just so carefree about it, is just painting for the fun of it not minding what other's think. Alot of non-artists think his paintings are garbage since they're not realistic. They think that they're a fraud for rich people to buy so expensive. But they only look at the finished outcome but not the process of what he was thinking and doing when making it.

@@abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwyxz102 much like your user name suggests, you don't actually know a damn thing about art. Most artists, when doing thick line work such as the video is showing, they'd hold in closer to the tip. This would prevent shaking. Despite what the imaging suggests, the way Picasso can make those clean lines, holding a big heavy marker by the end, really demonstrates his mastery, and the technique he possesses.

@aymara9152
@aymara9152 3 года назад
For the people in the comments that say “I could draw like that when I was five” or “I don’t understand why he’s special” Let me tell you why. Picasso could make realistic and beautiful paintings even as a little boy, he was a prodigy. It’s not that he couldn’t draw perfectly, he just happen to be one of the first people in the art community to to say “yes I can draw a face realistically, but I don’t want to” Realistic portraits and romantic paintings were getting boring. He was inspired by children, how they were free in their expression and the pure place it came from. He wanted to brake away from the “rules” of art and paint from the child within. You see, we need to look at the context in witch an art piece was crafted. Of course, now in this day and age it wouldn’t be very impressive to draw like him. But back then it was revolutionary, to think an artist was free to express himself in that way. I hope I could clear up some confusion about this artist. He is famous for a reason.

Everybody saying "my seven year old can draw that" but if I actually saw a seven year drawing that I'd be impressed. Someone who knows how to draw can see how it actually takes observation to make something like that sketch by Picasso, he just did it roughly. Also people thinking they're as good as Picasso, have you seen his paintings at ≈15 years old? They're pretty incredible. It's just that overtime, he decided to take a new perspective on art and that's how his style developed. If you look at some of his portraits and then at the models you'd realize it actually takes observation and effort to make it, it's not random at all.

You really don't want to try to get in a annoying argument with them. It's sad how people in the comment section are underestimating his skills. He could've draw you realistically for he is an art prodigy at 8. He is a pioneer, he started an art movement which not a single soul has the thoughts and balls to do. HE TOOK A LEAP OF FAITH. He was once a starving artist before all of this, the vast amount of money that people gives him, is because of his experience. Have you ever heard of promotion? He started painting at 8 so no wonder how much he will earn at age 80+.

The quote "It took me 4 years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child" really hits a deep meaning for me. Today, yes I can really draw/paint technical stuffs, although I admit that my level is just a bit of above from an amateur but I still want to go back the times when I painted like a child, all along with my active imagination that can create meanings to many different things. Not bothering to think more problematic stuffs and just perceive something like a child and make it a subject for a painting. To me, there are some things that when a child perceived and questions, they are actually thinking and digging deeper about it. Trying their best to understand and fill in their natural curiosity. Also mostly a child's painting is full of joy and honesty, unlike the me of today, my imagination is lacking and mostly go on with the trends, missing all the joy that I wished I could have again as a child.

Instead of treating his art as a summation of all the skills he acquired in his time as an artist, i think we should view this in the perspective of an inexperienced drinker at a wine tasting exhibit We wouldn't know how much it took to get to how the product tastes or feels til we know what its been through in the time that it developed. If we were just there sipping everything with reckless abandon, we wouldve just dismissed it as irregular, or perhaps not that special, until we realize that it's a decade-aged bottle that developed a flavor we never realized we tasted til we learned about it from the guide. Comparing children's works to picasso's is unfair, since children draw without much thought, while he drew and painted with intent. His years of mastery has boiled down to what he made as he grew old simply because he found something in his art that he stuck with, a flavor that encapsulated what he valued most as an artist. Even though he had a bad rep as a human, his rep as an artist is one of a kind
