I can answer this in my own state. In my state, about 250 children per year turn 18 without ever having lived with a family. Of these 250 18-year-olds, 2/3 of them will be dead or in prison before their 19th birthday. I don't know about other states, but because of my profession I know the statistics in my own state.

Honelessness has little to do with abortion laws. I have lived in New York for decades where we have unlimited abortion services. I still n have to step over human feces left by adults who were not aborted and not unwanted by their mothers. We have pooper scoopers for pets, but none for humans. are you serious ? where do you get your information from ? do you have any idea how many studies have been done on that topic to exhaustion? The evidence is abundantly clear. As a matter of fact there was a book by a couple statisticians called Freakanomics - that posited that the Huge reduction in violent crime in the USA that many , many politicians took credit for - Rudy Guiliani really comes to mind . After crunching the data - these authors proposed that the true reason for the drastic reduction in crime happened to also co-incide with 18 years after the passage of Roe Vs Wade - and that because of the access to abortion - there were not a lot of 18 yr olds walking around having endured 18 yrs of being unwanted an attempting to survive in underprivileged if not impoverished circumstances. Their calculations could substantiate it - conclusively - needless to say the jesus freaks when absolutely postal and predictably lead protests of the authors - their books - etc etc - you know the rest . The point is - it is a very well- known phenomena

Yes. Sadly, the anti-abortion crowd seems very unconcerned about what happens to unwanted babies after they are born. Don't look for strong anti-abortions states to increase health care spending for mothers and their children or an increase in child food subsidies.

For someone to be pro life, they’d have to be pro child and pro pregnant woman in order not to be a hypocrite. Anyone entirely passionate about saving a pregnancy should be equally as concerned and passionate about the woman’s life. They should be willing to contribute to the welfare of both for as long as it takes to make both “whole” and for that child, it can mean their entire childhood and young adulthood and the pregnant woman should have the freedom to decide whether or not she will accept help. No one has the moral right to be make any decision for a pregnant woman or her unborn child without also offering a loving and useful and lasting solution.

Why are you acting like a National Abortion law wouldn't affect everybody based on the wishes of individual states just like the election issue? How about we address a different question of the same nature, why are states able to make decisions regarding abortion law but not gun law? It seems to me that the question asked was more likely asking why the hypocrisy of these decisions is allowed, versus specifically these two issues. The blatant Corruption of several of the more conservative justices that sit upon the Supreme Court these days and the outrageous activism and religious ideology that is inherent in the decisions they've been making is blatantly unconstitutional based on the First Amendment, so I think questioning the Court's rulings is not only appropriate but important and it should matter to everybody regardless of party affiliation

To be fair, he should've been found guilty of crimes worthy of expulsion from the ballot before they tried expelling him from the ballot. We technically honor an 'innocent until proven guilty' mentality, though- that being said- I also know Al Capone was much more of a criminal than just what he was convicted of.

@erichancock6815 To be accurate, the Colorado case was decided by the trial level judge who said that he was indeed an insurrectionist but didn't know if he could go so far as to remove him from the ballot. The Appellate Court judge said on appeal that he was an insurrectionist that didn't belong on the ballot. The state Supreme Court upheld the view that he was an insurrectionist and that the application of Section Three of the 14th Amendment definitely gave the authorization to remove him from the ballot in the state without any additional steps required on a straightforward read of the Amendment. So please tell me how this was not adjudicated through the process of the legitimate trial process. The decision made by the Unsupreme Noncourt was a rebuke to due process and democratic norms and just plain reasonable behavior. It was bad faith partisan hacks rewarding bad behavior by a bad actor.

Private funders want to help the kids but not the adults. We can't make personal relationships ourselves to continue to support 250 new 18-year-olds every year, so our personal concern can't save them all. Meanwhile, the state Republicans keep banning single people or non-heterosexual people from being foster or adoptive parents, which increases the number of 18-year-olds who have never lived with a family. Organizations manage to get those laws reversed each time. It's kept quiet, of course; the GOP wants to make sure their voters don't find out. And then when election season comes around, they make new campaigns to ban them from fostering and adopting all over again, winning those GOP voters who forgot that they already did that last election season. Repeat, repeat, repeat. And the kids are left floating in a sort of purgatory.

I agree that appointments should be defined by a term. However, having justices campaign and stand for election would not guarantee that voters will choose people of quality. If Americans can elect Trump they can also elect a justice MT Greene, etc. I am Canadian and, somehow, we do not refer to our Supreme Court appointees as “appointed by Prime Minister X”. For that I am grateful. I think that America (and Canada) might do better by restricting lobbyists’ (like the Federalist Society) access to government. If all lobbying had to be done on camera…?
