I loved Afterlife - I went through a whole downward spiral of grief because I had lost my Dad, then Mom, then months later, my only sibling - my older brother, and one month later, I lost my very best friend since she and I were 17 yrs old very suddenly and very unexpectedly. I honestly didn't even want to live anymore myself at that point, then along came Afterlife - it really helped me put things in better perspective and gave me a reason to try and keep going.

You mentioned Derek & Clive a couple of podcasts ago. This made me think of the amazing Peter Cook and that he didnt give five f’s about if he was cancelled or not (it did exist even then and he probably felt that in his career) If he thought something was funny, he said it no matter how outrageous or strange. The last time I remember seeing him was on Mr Jolly Lives Next Door with Ade & Ric on Comic Strip Presents. Looking back, this was a golden age for British comedy. I wonder what your comedy hero’s are?

They thought I must hate gay guys because of that. Funny, I was the only one there who even had any gay friends, which I had always had even when it was not fashionable. 🤣

The more Animal Rights rhetoric I hear the less I believe in pet ownership and all the industry surrounding ownership. I heard of a man spending $12,000 on pet bills in a month! House pets suffer more than circus tigers ever did.

When one rescues an animal that already exists and cares for it for its life (and ends its suffering if needed) then that’s minimisation of suffering - which aligns to veganism. Creating a demand for breeding by buying animals very much doesn’t. Not only because the animals are often sexually abused as part of this process, inbreeding also causes significant suffering, and offspring with ‘undesirable’ traits are disposed of, it also treats the animal as a commodity. I certainly don’t speak for all vegans, but I’ve always rescued animals (cats, dogs, and some male ducks) and don’t really consider them my property per se, but more my charges and companions for whom I have a responsibility to care.

Contributing to animal welfare is everything to me too. They give us so much, and all we do is hurt them. Yet they forgive. They seem to me to 'vibrate' at a higher level. I used to hate cats. Then I rescued a kitten and kept it through to its death a decade later. Cats are like moood ionizers. They absorb negativity and turn it into love. All cats. They understand humans better than we understand them, and are likely smarter than us.
