Hi! Saw an old video of you wearing an alpha industries bomber jacket (I guess in slim fit). You also wearing this jacket on your profile pic. Can you please tell what's your height and weight and what size do you wear?
I’m so happy to see a popular men’s fashion/lifestyle RU-vidr branching out into real watches and not the cheap fashion watch world. Great tips here and also some beautiful pieces
TsimRosengren that’s the way a watch is actually supposed to be worn in my book! That behind the wrist bone thing looks so stupid to me! But hey, to each their own!
I see what you mean. I think it's because he was wearing long sleeve tops with it, because he wore it right when he wasn't wearing long sleeves. The sleeve pushes the watch forward and makes it hard to keep it at the wristbone, unless you can bring the sleeve over it, but then you won't really see the watch. I also find it hard to keep it on the correct position when wearing jackets or long sleeves. My philosophy is: allow it only with long sleeves. Other than that, it goes before the wristbone.
Gshocks are supposed to be that way. GShock obviously gets a pass. It's more for less spory dressier side of watches that need to be on smaller side. Again having a tapered, small width strap/bracelet helps too when case is big.
I have been wearing a watch since i can remeber and i wear it near wrist and sleep, workout and do everything with him no problems and like that way.Wear it the way you like it and feel good with it.
There's a reason why every single watch brand model their watches right down the wrist towards the hand. It's not a mistake, it's because it's both more practical and looks the best. Having it further up looks ridiculous for a guy.
Most people don't realize how long of a process it is making "Good" content for RU-vid, keep it up, you even inspired me to start my own fitness channel, now very close to 700 subs,.
@@MyZippy13 fasion as a subject and an entire study stream exists for a reason. Do whatever u want is a risky persona that if you can pull off, u can start a trend otherwise make a complete fool out of yourself.
I hate to wear my watch so tight that it actually stays in one place. It feels very uncomfortable to me. Therefore I wear my watch fairly lose and there’s zero wrist mobility issues. I’ve switched to Nato straps 3 years ago and never looked back, but even with the metal bracelet my watch was on before, mobility was never an issue. I love Nato straps! They come in a multitude of different colors and color combinations that are simply not possible with leather, they’re comfortable, much longer lasting and considerably cheaper than leather and if they’re cool enough to be worn by James Bond with a suit then they’re definitely cool enough for me. The watch placement of 5:27 is perfect for me! Anything further up the arm is a massive no-go for me, especially with button down shirts because the way you wear your watches means you have to roll up your sleeve to be able to tell the time, which sucks big time!
5:31 loose watch is better then a tight strap , dont forget that any kind of tight strap damages the vain and blood circulation and causes varicosele. coz tight is tight . On the other hand loose watch looks cooler , why would you wear a tight accesorry , do you wear a fashion bracelet that tight ever ?
Some people like big watches, ask people who wear IWC big pilot. I have a mid size Rolex yacht master and even my wife said it is too small and doesn’t want to wear it. I don’t think it will go back to small watches. Look at Rolex, they just release a white gold yacht master and increase the case to 42mm as well as their submariner from 40mm to 41mm. However, dress watch can be smaller, such as the Patek Philippe Calatrava.
The watch placement advice I agree for rubber and leather straps but sometimes you just cannot adjust a bracelet to just stay on the same place, I completely agree that is not supposed to be dancing all the way to your elbow but a little mobility is ok for bracelet.
Some people like wearing the bracelet loose. It's more comfortable that way. The reasons you mentioned may speak to your OCD but not everyone has that problem.
Yeah, it might be comfortable until you do anything with watch hand. My dad aka "always good advice guy" bought me my first watch and he tried to convince both me and seller that loose strap is better than a fit one... It looked like my hand was thinner than it actually was, and it was annoying when doing any activities, like once I had to do CPR, and that watch annoyed me a lot. :P
I don’t understand why people care so much about whether or not Alex is sponsored. As a fan, I’m happy when he’s sponsored because that means he’s making more money for his awesome videos.
great video but the "which wrist" part is nonsense because that's not actually a conscious decision. I'm right-handed and yet I wear my watch on my right wrist, always have and always will, simply because it feels natural to me. Just like picking up a pen or kicking a ball, you don't think and "select", you just do it.
Good video with some sensible advice! I have to add: Rule no. X: Don't pose like 1:06 - 1:07 except in watch commercials. Especially if you've bought a Rolex.
Watch position depends also on the watch case & strap selection. If the case has smooth edges (e.g. cushion case) in combo with 4 or 2 o'clock crown and elastic strap (there are even "elastic" bracelets like jubilee out there) - it is gonna be OK in any position. Also to mention, watch manufacturers usually officially recommend to wear watches a little bit loose, because it is simply unhealthy to squeeze the wrist too much.
So I'm just trying to figure out where on the wrist the watch is suppose to rest. He said above the 'wrist knuckle', but in a lot of the shots he's wearing it on the knuckle or below? He's not even following his own advice?
I disagree on watch “placement”. I like my watches down on top of the wrist bone. I also like the band to be loose enough that it can slide around a little bit.
Biggest rule, is break the rules, be your own boss, don’t be a sheep be the wolf, enjoy your watch, be a free spirit, listen to yourself, follow your own destiny , love life.
You will usually find there is a difference in your wrist size between left and right of around 1/4", some watches will fit and look better on one wrist over the other so try both when sizing the watch. In my collection I have watches that sit better on my left wrist and others that sit better on my right so they are put on whatever wrist gives them the best and most comfortable fit.
I've recently began my obsession as a watch collector. And i must say- out of all the luxury brands I've been researching, for me the amzwatch's watches are the most intriguing.
In the fall and winter i prefer to have my bracelet watch hanging below my wrist bone so that it can stay in front of my shirt or sweater...in the spring summer i then wear it on tge bone if my wrist because im wearing shirt sleaves...when i have a nice looking or expensive watch i like to have it shown...so bottom line theres no wrong way its whatever u are comfortable with
I been wearing on right hand for 40yrs n I'm right hand n never had a problem.people wear on the left side was the old way n I'm not a follower, but good advice 👍
Great Video...I see so many people wearing loose watches moving all over their wrists... I've even noticed a co-worker who had scars on their wrist bone where the watch was rubbing... ouch! Get your wrist band adjusted or learn to do it yourself!
I always wear mine on right hand and right handed as find when I do have on left as I don't use as much I found I damaged it more as not focusing on my left hand
I'm lefthanded and wear it on my left. The looks you get if you wear it on your right are like treaths Thats not the reason it just feels better on my left because of handshakes and I use my right for things that would break my watch
Alex is the best...no sponsor video there is no one better than alex because he make videos not to make money but to make us stylish and happy on youtube there is no other RU-vider who will make a watch video without watch sponsers
I love wear watches and always did. When I lived in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, the problem was being afraid of being robbed anytime. Now my problem is only my thin wrist 😂.
Yeah, fully mechanical watch for me smartwatches is all over the place. And I have never ever seen anyone with a Nelson Swiss watch simply because the company went out of business 40 years ago.
Like most people, I actively use my right hand, but wearing a watch on my left wrist feels uncomfortable, like wearing a handcuff. I am very comfortable and happy with my watch on my right wrist, and I don't take extra care to protect my watch, I just take it off and put it in my pocket when I'm going to use a hammer, carry something heavy like a box, or do something that could get damaged. :)
Not sure about the dominant hand claim . May be watches are designed with that in mind ie easier access to winder with right hand etc that is the reason for the winder being on the right of the watch . Otherwise if you wear watch on right wrist you need to be very flexible to use the winder with your left hand . I am ambidextrous and wear my watch on my left wrist .. Are there watches out there for left handed folk ? I wear my watches exactly as you say don't ..... I find it much more comfortable .
Two things. 1, you know 100% that if big watches become fashionable again, you gonna wear one. 2, practice what you preach. Every, and I mean every shot of you wearing a watch it was over you wrist bone man.
I do not agree with the first thing. As a watch collector with a big love for vintage timepieces I'd never wear those wayy to big modern watches. Even if that's the trend, at least I'll stand out.
It is both commonplace and appropriate to wear a timepiece below wrist bone. If you don't hear terms like movement, complication, bezel, case-back, COSC,GMT,Indices...etc - Probably not a good source for watch etiquette.
I'm left-handed and watches are made for right-handed people with the knobs being on the right side of the watch for them to access the buttons with their right hand. So, they can easily wear the watch on their left hand or non-dominant hand. For me, however, to have a right-handed watch, made for right-handed people on my right hand (non-dominant); defeats the purpose of the buttons that are also facing to the right. So, I wear my watches on my dominant hand (the left). Nice video and I just subscribed.
You wear a wpaltch on the left so you can set it with your right. There are left handed watches. Wear you watch so you can adjust it with out discomfort. When you bend your eldow in a proper dress shirt the watch face should be visible. Watches were warn palm side of the wrist be of trade requirements ( note taking).
"Don't wear big watches. That draws attention to yourself." Later on in video.... "Check out my Instagram to see my new tattoos and btw, I'm off to London and Portugal this week."
Also when fitting A watch it shouldn't be able to slide on its own, it should be staying relatively in the same place regardless of gravity. But instead be able to slide the bracelet an inch or two with very minimal manipulation. If it binds up immediately on your skin you might require a micro adjustment.
Regarding smartwatches ... a thin, narrow and tiny heartbeat monitor like a fitbit tracker is better because it looks less strange if you decide to wear it on one wrist and a mechanical on the other. I don't need any messaging capability. Apple ... make a simple thin and narrow one pls.
i think you should rephrase the not above the wrist bone to loose enough slide back and forth... thats the tip for sizing because when your hands are down they will fall over your wrist but when you look at it you want it slide back above the bone... and true watch purest dont have smart watches ;P
Noooo! Watches just look so wrong worn that high up. They’re called WRIST watches for a reason. The crown will rarely dig into your hand enough to hurt, and if occasionally it does, just man tf up and ignore it lol Or if you’re really too weedy to handle that rare little dig just get an SKX with the crown at 4 o’clock 🤙🏼
The problem with steel bracelets is that you can't really adjust them casually during the day like you could with a leather/rubber strap (except some bracelets like the Rolex Glidelock system). Our arms tend to expand a bit especially during hot weather and what may be comfortably sized at the beginning of the day might annoy the hell out of you during the day when your arm expends a bit and the bracelet starts to squeeze your skin. So I really prefer to wear my bracelet a little bit on the loose side so that it won't get annoying later during the day.
Some advice that works for me is if your wrist swells or your sweating and the watch starts sticking and feeling tight just undo the bracelet and move the watch then clasp it again. Really helps me out
I wear my watch loose, at the end of my wrist - girls wear it tight, higher up the wrist and you do look like you spend more time in front of the mirror than my girlfriend, so thanks for the advice, but I'll pass. We don't all aspire to look like a yuppie - some of us have got swag!
Fitbit Alta is my go to watch at the moment because it’s simple and no huge face to manage and like a bracelet, just change the strap color depends on your current fashion. What do you think @Alex ?
cool video, but a lot of the clips demonstrating watches are below the point you said they should be fitted. I love buying straps with mechanics which make me able to change the straps fit to setting.
Fossil makes a beautiful watch that has an old school analogue watch face but is outfitted with a vibrating motor and number oriented notification system; for the man that wants some smart functionality with out the tacky look of an smart watch.
If watch placement is where you say it should be, why does horology refer to it as a "wrist" watch? Just curious. I do wear mine where you say it should be.
There is a smartwatch out there that looks good with suits it's called Samsung Gear S3 it looks just like a regular watch and you can get leather or stainless steel straps
