Just for those who didn't get it, this isn't real traffic that a 50-lane road cannot handle. This traffic jam is actually CAUSED by the 50-lane TOLL STATION, after which there is very light traffic, ironically.

It is very true what you say and that I noticed just by watching the video, the real number of vehicles in China does not exceed more than 200 million that is, 1 in 10 Chinese has a car and with the retrisbutments in all of China the Roads and streets of China and a part of the Chinese use the train, as it also happens in my country, because only the existence of many tolls makes the illusion of mega traffic and traffic jams as well as how many lanes the road has in each direction, Although if everyone had 10 cars per person, remove all tolls, expand all roads in the world, even so the traffic will be minimal

@@Jesuis-qe8ql I just looked it up. Wikipedia says China has 315 million cars now and has passed the US with the largest number of cars (hardly a surprise). But cars per capita is still relatively low because the average person in China has far more options to ride public transport, which is cheap and efficient, so it is likely China's cars per capita will always stay below Western countries just because cars aren't really needed in Asia.

That's why here in NZ we have toll cameras instead of stations. China should be highly advanced, but instead well, this is 7 years ago. They surely would've had toll cameras now, or toll booth free highways.

That's at the toll station where roads are widened for faster toll collection. Ironically, there's no traffic jam after the toll station at all if you noticed. This traffic jam is CAUSED by this 50 lane toll collection thing.

Leon Luo I had always hated tolls careless of them being inefficient. There is point blank no use of the toll in America, and almost all states in the North-east part of the US have tolls. Glad that I live in a toll-free area of the US.

This toll plaza is the world's widest toll plaza with 50 lanes. It's wider than 29 lanes of I-10/US 90/Katy Freeway and the 22 lanes of the 401 through Mississauga, but this toll plaza doesn't count as the widest freeway. The Katy Freeway holds that title and it upsets to Canadians who think the 401 has that title.

Ahem, I believe the claim is that Hwy 401 around "the basketweave" is North America's *busiest* highway by traffic volume. Don't know about Katy Freeway, but 401 has A LOT of semi-tractor traffics around the clock, which makes the claim credible. And also, obligatory "video title is clickbait bullshit and cheating". No shit toll plaza is stupid wide. The actual expressway is probably 4-6 lanes at best.

this is actually impressive considering how busy this highway is, if it was limited to 5 or 6 lanes who know when will you reach out the station! (+ you gota respect the station workers for their constant work, it's not easy to keep up your momentum checking hundred of cars, just for your buddy to switch with u for the night shift and do the same!)

I would advise china to invest heavily into commuting such as bus subsidies and bus lanes, a monorail or high speed rail transport to help avoid productivity and the economy to slow again.

In India when there is alot of traffic on the entrance road of a big city, they just open the toll gate, they have a camera there that gets the number plates of the cars passing through, of which they charge the money later online through fastag.

It's not 50 lanes - it's just a toll booth. There are plenty of wide toll booths in other parts of the world, maybe not quite as wide as that one. The actual highway, as one can see, is only 4 lanes on each side.

Seems the problem is evident. No traffic after the tolls and all traffic before the tolls. Maybe remove the booths or at least wave people through when traffic gets backed up like that?

Nice touch with the spooky music. Very dystopian sounding. It’s toll plaza on a holiday weekend. Some people were delayed up to three hours. Not sure how this is different from the states? This happens every year on Cape Cod and at Hampton NH tolls. Also, China has built 30000 miles of high speed rail and counting
