Watch These Trained Eagles Take Down Drones Flying in The Air

Dutch National Police are making what's old new again with a fleet of birds trained to take down drones. The Dutch have teamed up with a raptor training company to make the program a reality. A video demonstration of the sharp-eyed birds in action makes it clear they are up for the task, however it wasn't clear how dangerous it could be for the raptors to come into contact with the spinning propellers. Dutch police said in a few months they'll know when the program will begin. #InsideEdition

+Abandoned Exploration I think high speed plastics might still hurt the birds. Then again, pergolas the guys who designed the project considered the Eagles' safety.

well wrong, people are caring more and more. They used to be able to make movies killing animals, like horses in those old war movies. Not anymore, now they can not do it, at all. So we as a species are caring more, thank 'god'.

That little CHEAP drone... not much chance of hurting the bird. A racing quad with 250 watt brushless motors and carbon fiber blades would take toes off the eagle. A pro level drone with 1500 watt motors would chop the bird into nuggets and not even slow down.

This is fine and dandy until someone replaces the stock blades with carbon fiber blades as many enthusiasts do. I guarantee carbon fiber will win every time.

Fun Fact: In WW2, some Americans joined the RAF before the US got involved as part of Eagle Squadrons. I guess you could say that bald eagle is just the natural extreme of the concept.

+Yamifira “the” chosen juan and do you understand the principals of multi rotor air craft and how dangerous the blades are. I'm all for a way to shut drones down in prohibited areas. I don't fly in prohibited areas I don't brake the law. The bird can't perceive what the operator is going to do it's not always a stationary flying object

rogue5022 first you take the safest targeta round in this case a kdis toy train the bird and study how it grabs the thing and takes it down then make lightweight ceramic/rubber armor so the bird can tackle the bigger ones easily it's basic research kiddo

+Yamifira “the” chosen juan , ok so when the bird goes for a real drone that has GPS that will take over and try to auto correct itself without any input from the pilot it will seriously harm the animal. There are way to many holes in the idea of using an eagle to bring a drone down. Kiddo really lol

The little DJI Phantom is just that... LITTLE with small wattage motors and cheap, fragile props. Its a MINOR step up to props that can be used as STEAK KNIVES.

That's a horrible idea and animal cruelty. Did they not think the Blades would injure the eagles??? The reason the Blades didn't injure the eagles in this video is because they let off the blade accelerator if you will when the eagle got the drone. This has bad idea written all over it.

The drone would not be stationary. You can't force someone to do something (ie not fly drones in wrong areas), you ask them nicely and hope they will understand.

Birds aren't stupid as to blindly grab stuff from where it could potentially hurt them. They swoop down and take felines, canines, and other birds all the time, which have very sharp claws, fangs and talons as well. They eventually learn what part of it to avoid.

Thats all well and good. Real life the motors dont turn off when eagle grabs it. It will break his feet. I thought it was against the law to possess and train a bald eagle.
