In this video I break down the reliability and common issues of the GMT800 Chevrolet Tahoe form 2000-2006. This video is intended to give you a quick review of the Chevrolet Tahoe!
I am no professional mechanic, but I have been talking about cars and figuring out particular issues between each model for a while now. No, I do not know everything. I usually spend hours of research, with a fine eye, to make these videos. Just wanted to be upfront!
I hope this helped you out with your future purchase or diagnosing any issues you may have!
Parts for your convenience, be sure to check if your specific year, make and model!

I got my 2005 Tahoe used with 134,000 and by the time I put it in the shop for cosmetic damage it had 336,000. It still ran quiet as the day it came off the assembly line. Didn’t even have the Chevy tick. That was the best truck I have ever owned hands down. A true beast and truly reliable and has me looking for another one. Z71 00-05 are my favorite years!!!!

If you have one, hang onto it. The market on these is about to go nuts when people slowly realize this was one of the best trucks GM ever made. Before AFM/DOD, and before the 10,000 electrical problems and sensors of the new vehicles.

Going to leave this here: the 5.3 chevy tahoe is the most reliable vehicle i have ever owned i have had mine since new in 2002 to this day ive maybe replaced some plugs,wires and basic maintenance the only major thing ive ever replaced is the 4l60 tranny as they come rather weak and i am by no means at all nice i get to about half throttle everytime i take off from a stop. i have the 2002 chevy tahoe z71 and they are basically the same as the 01-06 EDIT : It has 279653 miles

My 2004 V8 Tahoe 4x4 has 318,000 miles. Growing up we had Yukons, Suburbans and Tahoes. They all we're beasts. So no doubt I had to own one. They always hit 300k no problem. Not to mention the classic interior is simple. Easy to maintain and made of such durable material. The faults he stated in the video are pretty spot on. Mainly just A/C. They are gas guzzlers. Awesome work vehicles. Clunky yes. In the Country Clunky is life. City benefits, you can fit an entire 70Inch TV or 18 pedestrians in the back or just use it as cover during a shootout.

2005 Yukon. I’ve had every one of these issues except broken exhaust manifold bolts, but I also fixed every one myself in the driveway. Also hubs, pitman, idler arm, tie rod ends, stabilizer links, shocks, ABS sensors, brake switch, lighting block, power steering pump, hydroboost unit, and brakes. The brakes were actually still fine at 172k(!) but I upgraded them anyway. Sounds like a lot, but all pretty easy to do and cheap. Never broke down yet, great vehicle. Now to fix that rear mail seal leak…

I'm also the proud owner of a 2004 5-3 Tahoe I've got roughly 206,000 mi on it the only problems I've had with it recently I had my hub assembly come apart and get toasted and I had to replace the upper lower ball joints inner and outer tie rod ends on the driver side the hub assembly and the steering knuckle I did all the work myself as this is one of the easiest vehicles to work on in the world and my personal opinion this is the most reliable best vehicle that I've ever owned in my entire life... This is an update after I watched more of your video and your right brake lines definitely rust out I did have that problem as well about two years ago I went to step on the brakes and they completely went out so I had to replace all of my brake lines and I did not do that work it cost me $900

What sold me on this model and engine was an ex of mine and myself drove a gmc Sierra with 350k + miles on it across the US and got good mpg, and not one issue the entire drive. Mine has 208k miles and zero issues. Everything on it works, and the engine runs fantastic. In fact when im stopped you cannot tell if it's running unless you roll down the windows and hear the exhaust. My exhaust is aftermarket.

I bought an 04 about 6 years ago. I'm sure the engine has been replaced cause an oil filter for an 04 won't work but a filter for an 07 or newer works. The body has 362,000 on now though and it's had some issues with the brakes and brake lines but mainly just regular maintenance issues that happen to any vehicle over time. Overall it's been a good vehicle and reasonably reliable vehicle.

All of these videos like this make me scared to death to drive my 06 Tahoe. I bought it last May with 106k miles on it. One owner verified and lots of dealer servicing done over the years, but no specifics disclosed to me. With so many little things and very little energy due to health issues, I leave it parked in the garage and just keep driving my 93 Chevy Astro cargo van. Simplicity and rock solid reliability, probably much more so than the Tahoe. I won't deny I do enjoy driving the Tahoe when I do take it out, but it isn't that often, and videos like this are a big part of it.

This was just going to be a Junker till I got my GX, but it has grown on me a lot so I am going to keep it for picking up gardening/house supplies and trails that may cause body damage to the gx. Prior to me transmission went out so it is basically new other items i don't know about. Things I have had to fix myself dash lights, hood release, rear hatch actuator, heater hose so I also replaced all hoses and T connectors, some switches. Thing I need to fix knock sensor as it throws engine light stability control light is on solid haven't figured that out and 4x4 have tried the dash switch and the ground wire fuses etc. So it may go in this week for that.

As a 16 year old I sold my truck and bought a Tahoe, $3500 for 5.3 loaded z71, but the issue was I’m in Michigan. Over the last year I de rusted it in a hack kind of way… let’s say both spots failed. The spot under the gas cap blew through , and the bumper began to rust on the corners again. 2 weeks ago I welded in some sheet metal and fixed under the gas cap area correctly, rust treated, sheet metal, rust prevent, bondo,primer,paint, clear… now that spot looks good. This week I dropped the front bumper and did it right, even undercoating the back side. Sorry for that long story but the point I was getting at is I am actively fixing up this car correctly, it now looks pristine inside and out, only exception being the drivers seat. What I’ve done so far Water pump Brake lines De rust Rear wiper motor 4x4 switch Heated seat switch Wheel bearing What’s needed New heated seat pad (drivers) Front axle seals New seat cover (drivers) Fix emissions code O2 sensor code What’s wanted Wheels /tires (paint stocks…new?) Front end rebuild? Girlfriend? That’s all thanks for reading

2005 z71 v8 138,000 miles. We had it since around 100,000ish. Gas is way better than our old smaller Bronco v6. We did have to replace all the brake lines. $600. Fixed the AC. The oil gauge has not worked ever. We just replace the oil well before its recommened. 1 bad window motor was easily fixed. For an old Truck up north just a few minor things. I thought about selling but Id rather keep an old $50,000 SUV then buy a new $20-30k new garbage they make these days.

What you guys think. Which Thaoe is more reliable & has better built quality as daily Driver nowadays? The 1st Gen Thaoe with the 350 Vortec or the 2nd Gen Thaoe with the 5.3 LS engine? (But with more electronic stuff & more plastic on the exterior)
@TuckerSG
@TuckerSG 2 года назад
2nd gen, you'll get better gas mileage aswell, there's ton of videos out there with all the common issues, if you stick with 2002 or older tahoes/yukons you'll get less electronics if you want it more simple or get more comforts and buttons with 2003+. I have an 02 tahoe with 350,000+ kms and the engine will outlast the rest of the vehicle and its transmission.
@charlesmchoop3007
@charlesmchoop3007 2 года назад
@@TuckerSG Thank you! I'm only always afraid if the electronics fail how expensive it gets to repair that stuff. Like the Cluster is stated as one issue etc. I will look more in the common issues & then decide. Stay well.

@AutoMotivate
@AutoMotivate 2 года назад
It depends on its previous history. In general, the engines should easily last 300k ish and transmissions atleast 250k. In general, any older vehicle you buy will have things that need to be fixed unless it was taken care of very well.

Hey man Corvette C5 BMWE46 or Tahoe which one should I get please let me know 🤓
@AutoMotivate
@AutoMotivate 3 года назад
Oh geez, they are all pretty different cars.. C5 corvette and the E46 are performance cars out the box (corvette a bit more equipped). The Tahoe is roomy, comfortable, relaxing and very convenient. The Chevys are going to be 10x more reliable to the E46 and outlast it with much less problems to arise. They do have LS engines, after all. However, the E46 does have better gas mileage and an amazing Vanos engine(they are reliable ONLY if the car has been very well taken care) I think it really depends what you want in a car.

Just another reason to get a gmt800. None of these issues have to be taken to the shop. My 03 suburban has 354k miles and is just as strong as ever. What he didn't talk about was the weak 4l60e transmission. Convert to a 4L80 and you have a bulletproof truck.

I had a front drive car with a 4T60E and it would bark the tires during upshifts , well I did it too often and when it would not move I learned that a nylon gear had broken , could have just replaced it and be good , but since it was deep inside , no point in digging that deep and not rebuild the whole thing
