The Honda Civic is surprisingly very reliable, however, that does not mean they are all problem free. I am not saying do not buy one. I am simply trying to help people either diagnose issues they may have and help others with inspecting the car before their purchase. Too many haters here in the comment section 😂
RU-vid deletes rude/aggressive/cursing comments automatically. I rarely ever delete comments myself. And, I saw that. It really makes a lot of sense. I’ve seen those comments and I actually get a lot of those ignorant comments myself on some of my videos. There are always those types of people who cant see your point of view. Hope you are well!
I am not saying don’t buy one, my friend. I’m stating that if issues pop up, these are most likely the issues. And, a lot of people have validated all the issues.
I've had my 2006 for 14 years. No real problems, but the sun visor does fall. It has 340,000 miles and runs like it did the day I bought it. The most reliable car i have ever owned.
Lol I’m watching this vid just to see what BS is mentioned, BIG Honda guy here, the 8th gen civic is praised as one of the greatest generations ever of the car. I’ve owned two of them in the past 5 years and own one currently. Never had an issue aside from struts and the normal maintenance, he is speaking truth about the 3rd gear issue on the manual trannys. Mine doesn’t have that issue though, the SI models have EPS so... no power steering pump to go bad on those.
@@MrWeshill I have a 02 em2 5th gen have it 2 years now drove up to LA prolly drove back low coolant over heated a little then I did coolant swap changed thermostat now it's fine never had a prob since prolly gonna need a clutch soon tho too many burnouts lol
I picked up this model back in 2008 when it had 44,000 miles. It's 2021 it still running strong at 189,000 miles. Only problem I had is worn front struts, failed starter and blow cv axles. All fixed and everything is maintained through service manual. This car definitely worth the buy.
I get a scraping/squeaking/clicking noise when I turn left or merge left or when I am goin straight, the only time it stops is when I hit the brakes or turn right, could that be the cv axle? The noise I originating from that area in the front driver side.
I am borrowing an 06 civic which currently has 204,000 and drives really nice. No, noticeable oil issues or engine issues, no major transmission slipping. I believe it has the r18 engine and automatic transmission. The interior is pretty nice. Good car.
@@antiquefuturistic yes that is 100% true, sold my 2011 coupe with the royal blue pearl paint (navy blue) earlier this month and the clear was peeling like crazy. Car was an absolute tank though and could take anything that was thrown at it. Took it all over the country when the air force had me move and it never let me down.
My 86 year old mother has a 2006 with 7400 miles, went to get her a battery put in and the technician was struggling with the dash, I walked out and said, no that’s not the trip odometer, it’s the actual miles.
I love my 2007 Honda Civic Coupe EX, bought it at 100k a little over a year ago and now at 146k and I loveee it still and I do all the oil changes, engine mounts, brakes basic tune ups myself always on time to keep those MPG (30-40) 😳. I drive a lot here in California and enjoy life with my baby (civic)😅.
I am a student and looking forward to buy a 2006 Honda Civic with 280k miles on it for $3500, single owner and no accidents. Should I buy it ?? The dealer mentioned it is sold as-is and he mentioned it twice.
I had the visor issue and my headliner sagging quite a bit. Another thing that I’ve seen on many 8th gen Civics is the weather stripping deteriorating everywhere but especially on the sides of the windshield. Nonetheless my 09 Civic has 110K and has never given me any problems in its 13 years of service. Still drives like new!
The headliner is an easy fix. My wife and I put red and white plaid on it 😅 I took the visors out because race car lol. #weightreduction With the weatherstripping, another easy fix. That part is pretty easy to find and install. Couple easy projects to fix the car up! Cheers 🍻
Yep I have the problem with the windshield molding also. Called the dealer, and those 2 side strips were quoted at around $400. The parts person was just as shocked as I was.
@@Maggot00679 Honda should have had a recall on the 2006 Honda Civics there were so many cracked engine blocks in that model year. It really took to the 2010 model year to fix the problem.
Own two of these both coupes 07 and 09 great reliability and economy. Both have had motor mounts and third brake lights replaced. Radios also have issues but still work. 07 has 235k and 09 has 150k everything else has been routine maintainence would buy both again in a heartbeat
Radio issues will eventually lead to failure. I'm surprised this did not make the list. Also, cabin air blower motor and cabin air flow direction mechanism are common issues.
I literally have had none of these issues except for the motor mount issue, and that one is surprisingly easy to fix. These cars are very reliable. The only other issue I have had was a couple batteries needing replaced, a valve cover gasket, and then a starter, but those are all preventive maintenance issues that occur on ANY vehicle. I have around 190k on my 08 Civic EX coupe and it's still running strong. Though the issues in this video can potentially happen, they are still pretty rare issues
Update: I did end up running into the cheap visor falling apart on me lmao. Just went to the junkyard and got another one for $10. Sucked but it wasn't a big deal
I love my 2011 Civic manual, no issues at all aside from the left rear wheel bearing at 110K. This car is so smooth to drive. I find that buying a car at the end of the model cycle helps to avoid common issues.
I have a 2011 Civic and after 12 I had my first part failure , the thermostat failed open after 134,000 miles and it was due for a coolant flush and change anyway , so I would call that unbelievably reliable and yes my paint is still great !
Awesome! I just ran into a guy today about 2 hours ago who has a baby blue 2008 Honda Civic I think he said DX, maybe he said EX... but it looks so smooth... all he did was have it painted and put cool white rims on it and a muffler... and tinted windows. Look like the front was lowered a little bit too... looks so cool... do you know if they 2011 model has same look or do you recommend another model in this generation? I am looking to get 2008 unless one of the others is better to 2011.
@@MikeKollin 2008 is a great reliable car. If you can buy one with normal miles for its year and has had regular routine maintain eye I would buy one! Sorry for the late response.
I have Civic 1.8 ES sedan (Japanese market) and never had any issues from the video. With this car you don't have to worry about anything! Just fill up the tank and drive, drive, drive forever.
i have an 06 honda civic and i absolutely love the car the drive, the milage, the looks, everything... when you mentioned the crack in the block i felt that one because the same thing has happened to my car.. the way it happened isi got service done at honda and my car was around the early stages of 100k miles and since this is my first car im not knowledge able in parts and what needed to be changed plus honda should of brought it up since they was working under the hood, anyway i was driving to this place about an hour away and some time between than my water pump failed and i wasn't aware of it so i drove the car hot and when i did it cracked the block.. took it to honda and they told me it will be $3k+ for a new motor/used one and i laughed at them.. im still dealing with the issue now and it has 160k miles.. if you don't mind paying $7 in coolant a month it should last till 200k+ miles.. my block started with one crack and broke open to two.. granted i tried fixing one side with jb weld and it failed miserably it still runs fine and im not about to drop $3k into a new motor id rather put that twords a newer model and never deal with that again... but figured id put my personal experience with the infamous "block leak" and tell you honda will no longer be on your side...
My 2011 has had zero issues outside of normal wear and tear and minor accidents still runs like new after 180k plus miles best most reliable car I have owned
I’m not saying don’t buy the car. I’m just pointing out the most common issue within this model to help others diagnose issues they are experiencing. I have many comments talking about their cars being reliable up to 200k miles. And many others have been validating this video. Not every single Civic will have these issues I’ve listed.
My 2010 civic LX runs like new with 130k miles and has never had one issue. Just maintain the engine oil, filter, power steering fliud, brake fluid etc and you'll be driving that car for the rest of your life. Oh and change your power steering fliud every 60k miles that's want causes the pump to fail is dirty power steering fluid. If you feel it's hard to turn your wheel it's most like just dirty fluid. Not a hard job, RU-vid has so walk-throughs
I bought a 2011 civic new, and am still driving it with 277000 miles, and have had none of the issues listed. Only issues with mine was a power steering rack replacement, and replacing the compressor clutch for the air conditioning. Both of which I did myself. The car has never been in a shop for repair other than a recall for the locking mechanism in the doors. It consistantly gets 38 miles per gallon when I drive it (very little city driving). No cvt, no turbo, no hybrid, and no problems. I bought it on clearance for under $17000 when the new model year was coming out. It is the best vehicle I have ever owned.
I have also a Honda civic 2007 and i swear that i m proud of this car everything is just amazing the power, engine, its like a luxury car from the past
Haha. I usually hear Civic owners saying their cars are sports car and faster than all other cars. But this is the first time im hearing honda civic is a luxury car. Honda boys never fail to surprise.
I have an 08 civic, has almost 200k miles. Have had front bearings replaced, which I did. I need to replace the ac cooling fan but after almost 13 years jist tires and brakes.
I have a 2006 civic lx. I bought brand new. It's a piece of feces. Visors are broken had them replace always kept braking, interior plastic falling apart, stereo doesn't work, engine mount failed at 30k miles, rotors failed at 60k, multiple brake replacements car only has 92k miles, can't keep alignment, changed shocks 3 times, replaced control arms , still rides harsh, paint is horrible, air bag failed., a.c compressor failed, alternator failed, thermostat failed, power steering pump leaking, belts worn out, multiple headlights replacement, headlight plastic wears out fast, drum brakes failed, infotainment buttons failed, rotors failed, throttle body and combustion system failed, the car is garbage. Hondas are being made in china and u.s are not the same quality as being made in Japan. Honda is making cheaper cars by the years
The automatic transmission went out on my 2008 Civic at 185k miles. Other than that my biggest complaint is poor rearward visibility. I'm 6' and would not be able to see an object or child behind my vehicle when backing up. For shorter people it would be even worse. Parallel parking is scary because it is hard tell how close you are to the car behind you when backing in. Naturally a rear view camera ameliorates this problem but it wasn't a common option back then.
@@treynoahz71A local mechanic installed a used transmission with 57k miles on it and a 1 year warranty for $1,300. Due to covid I haven't been driving the car much so it only has 210k miles now but the car is still kicking.
I had a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid & ran it 12 hrs a day 7 days a week 365 days a year for 4 1/2 years & had zero issues & zero history of fault codes. The 1 problem I had was that I was a victim of a hit & run, I have bought a 2008 Honda Civic Coupe & I'm truly happy with it 😊
Hey I found a 2010 civic with 178k miles for $4500, clean title. I can probably negotiate the price down to $4000, maybe even a little less. Do you think it’s a good deal at around $4000? It’s a nice black color too, I’ve been looking for a black one, and the buyer told me it’s an ex model, but I don’t see a sun roof, so I think it’s an lx model
@@zantiagotron07 yeah price is a bit high, I was thinking the same. I haven’t had a car in like 2 years and my budget is 5k, and I’m getting impatient lol can’t find any good deals in my area either since I’m looking for 2010 or newer since they don’t have that cracked engine block issue
Similar the the housing market, the pandemic/covid 19 increased the price of the cars. In a healthy market, there would be a lot of choices if a similar car to drive the price down a bit. In the housing market, a healthy market would have a 6 month reserve, or around 3,000,000 houses for sale in the US at a time. April, the housing market drop down to 500k houses, which is why all houses cost way more then they should right now. As people start getting back to normal, so will the markets. It’s predicted that by end of this year or the start of next year things will become somewhat balanced again.
Bought my 09 ex sedan brand new when I was 20 and I’m still driving it. I’m about to hit 130k miles which isn’t much at all but Iv never had any of these issues . The only time the car left me stranded was when the ignition starter died, but that was definitely preventable because the car was having trouble starting for multiple months and I never had it looked at. Besides that, a belt tensioner snapped, my muffler snapped off, my driver side back window is stuck but not broken, and the entire center console lid is broken off but that was from a golf bag falling on it. None of these left me stranded and I’d consider to be wear and tear after 12 years. Some of the dash lights have started to go. Like the first fuel bar doesn’t light up. Little things. I put si seats in mine because I felt like mine were starting to wear internally and my back was hurting. The biggest flaw with the car IMO is because of the extended windshield, the A pillars are very long and create a huge blind spot that you don’t see in most cars. You have to move your head while going around wide turns. There’s also a pretty big recall on the passenger airbag. Free fix obviously. Interesting note, I deliver pizza like 3 days a week for 5 years, one of my coworkers has the same car just an 08. His has 160k miles. The weather lining between the car and the windshield on the drivers side is peeling off on both cars. Both cars have a small bubble rust spot in the same exact place inside the driver rear tire well. Maybe those are the design flaws? All in all, cars been good to me. It’s not a nice car, it’s not a fun car, but it’s easy to drive, light, and good for any young person. I can’t believe I’m still driving it 12 years later. I thought I’d only have it for 3 lol
@@DSTREETMEDIA if I remember correctly it applies to all years of the 8th gen Civics from 2006-2011. Only certain paint codes fell under the recall and I can’t remember off the top of my head which ones. I know rally red was included as was the dark blue color. A quick VIN check will tell you for sure. This recall window has since closed however and any repairs are now on the consumer.
You are talking about Honda Civic, look at your American pos (Chevrolet Cruze 2011,2012 etc. They had some serious issues from water pump breaking to poor brakes and the worst transmission.
Just spend the extra money and buy a 13' Civic....last year for the automatics before the switch to the dreaded CVT. Has electric power steering, revised R18 and backup camera. Significantly better car than the 06-11. Probably late now since they're all selling for $17k.
Still prefer the 06-11 because of their comfortable seats, ample storage, volume knobs and stylish back end. And another thing which seems minor but is still annoying is that with the 06-11, when you turn off the car engine, it does not turn off the audio system whereas with the pushbutton start, it does.
I waz lucky enough to find an 08 si with 152k for 2,500. Slight grind on 3rd and needs bodywork and a paint, but overall it's a damn good find i think. Keep an eye out and hace the cash ready. Good luck!
Got a 2008 civic for $2500 with 90k miles I got it from a family friend so rare but is possible I also looked for a good deal for 5 months so just be patient and be ready to go make a deal
Your already at 17.9k! I remember when you were at 15k and wasn’t that long agoo, so happy I started watching your great videos like this one, keep up the great work!
Seems my model should have been the luckiest and had the least amount of issues, it's a 2011 but here's what's happened to it so far Bought mine at 120,000km, it now has 220,000km. So far I've only done a brake job, and outer tie rods. It had an electrical drain, which I couldn't find, took it to an electrician which fixed it and found the drain was coming from the cluster which he "bypassed" he said he rerouted the power to something else. His "fix" caused some other issues, the gas meter doesn't register when I put gas in it right away, I need to drive it and it will slowly go to the correct level, my keyless entry fob stopped working aswell. I ended up getting a aftermarket keyless entry system installed Car was overheating and I didn't diagnose the issue properly and replaced a water pump, radiator fan, and thermostat. Rad cap was also replaced as it was damaged. Ended up being a fan control relay so that repair was my fault, although I don't need to worry about a water pump, fan or thermostat for along time. Other issue from the overheating, I had to remove an upper engine mount and I removed it amd reinstalled it too many times I forgot why but I ended up striping some thread on the engine and needed to pay a mechanic to fix it Some minor stuff I fixed was the arm rest door wouldn't close so I fixed it with a ziptie, recently the gas/trunk release latch broke so I replaced the cable.
I bought a 2007 Civic & within 24 hrs the engine overheated cuz coolant was leaking. I was scammed by the stealership I got it from 🤣 I somehow managed to get them to replace the engine (still at the mechanic) but not too sure if I should trust the car back in my hands. It only had 69k miles on it!!
I had a 2007 Honda Civic Coupe for 13 years. It was not without its problems. A lot of things in this video also happened to me including both visors, the engine mounts needing replaced, the wheel axel needing replacement because factory one was defective. Also the paint, airbag lights and even the engine block cracking are all true. I got under the warranty by 1 month dealer told me. It was a good car that never really rode straight or stable but excellent on gas for sure, nice sound system, coasted like a dream and a cool dashboard display.
I've had all these problems besides the lower control arm problem on my 07 civic ex.You forgot to mention the issue where you have to drill out the hex bolt on the block if you were to replace the tensioner or the water pump.Main issue is the cheap paint.Very reliable and fun car to drive while being fuel efficient.
So far, the only problems I have had with my 2010 Civic are minor: the seatbelt retractor has lost some strength, so I have to be careful about the belt getting caught in the door. The white paint has held up, but the black trim is looking a bit ratty.
Had a 2008 civic with only 140k miles. It was an electrical lemon after 80k miles. Four alternators, AC only worked while moving, one door lock stopped working and the rest would toggle on/off when driving under 15 mph. Among other items that self destructed. Like the sun visor. Lol
The title of this video should've been: One of the most reliable cars' common issues, that you might never get because we're talking outta literally over 1.5 million cars sold in the US.
About to cross 200k on my 11 civic lx 5spd manual transmission. I bought the car brand new in 2010. These are the "major" repairs I've had to do since owning.. clutch, alternator, serpentine belt, rotors and pads, new battery, oil change. It has been a great car for all these years. I would highly recommend to anyone, especially the manual version. While not the fastest, it makes driving the car that much more enjoyable.
