I've owned an '06 G35 coupe (6MT, rev-up) for ~7 years, from ~50k miles to ~103k miles now. Had most of these problems, except the piston/valve issues. Most of my problems started around 95k miles. I also had to replace the rear diff. and had the thermostat fail. Also, the rev-up motor has 4 camshaft position sensors (not just 2)... found out the hard way when I was DIYing my failed ones. Nothing like a random buck and loss of power rolling through an intersection. Overall, it's a thrilling car to own, cheaper to maintain than other luxury coupes, and even at 15 years old, still turns heads. Likely trading it in for a G37X sedan later this week because at 6'2", the coupe is a tight squeeze and my mid-30s lower back can't take it anymore. 😂
I am checking out an 05 G35. But this video says it has rev up engine that is problematic lest you replace the piston ring. It has almost 100k miles on it.
@@lancepic8891 Thanks for the reply. I drove yesterday on Freeway for about 60 miles. It seems the engine sounds is more obvious comparing to a Lexus when I stepped on gas. Is it supposed to be quiet?
I have an 08 G35 (sedan) with the HR engine...2nd owner, had it since 2010....no problem with oil consumption. Did have issue with wheel hubs/bearings requiring change and also the fan for interior AC/heater (but it was super easy to replace). 185,000 miles on it and the water pump just went out. Decided to just swap for a 6.0 LS engine. Ironically, the early year LS engines did in fact have an oil seal piston ring issue, but...I'm doing a freshly rebuilt anyway. This has been a great car and I'd rather put $7,000 into a 500 horsepower basica N/A build that I already own f/c rather than go out and buy a another car. (and yes, for the hates who always say..."why put an ls into an infiniti, just get a corvette. A; I already have a corvette, B; I like my infiniti, it's a paid for car: It's my car and I'll do whatever the hell I want with it...lolz. They don't make 4 door corvette sport sedans, so best of both worlds.
Had my 06 G35 for 5 years. Ive had every one of these issues except the leaking valve cover. 150k miles. Blew a head gasket 9 months ago. Rebuilt the engine, new pistons, valves, connecting rod bearings. Runs like brand new now, and no more oil leaks.
@@Skaterdrifter parts, labor, and service kit in total was about $1800. That's the most I've sent on my car in like 2 years since I put in my stage 2 clutch. That's was about $600
Marquavious Chester the 07-08 G35 sedan only is the v36 like a g37 the newer body style, it has the hr motor. The older 03-04 sedans v35 are lighter than the coupes but come with the de motor. I've had a v35 and v36 sedan. the v35 coupes (like in the video) never came with the hr Motor just the de and de "rev-up" motor. In 07 was the last year of the v35 G35 coupe the 07 G35 sedan was the newer v36 body style and new hr engine in 08 the g37 coupe came out with the vhr 3.7.
Unfortunately I got a bit of a leaky G. 03 coupe with 126k miles. Just replaced the rear main seal, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket and that O ring by the oil filter. I love the car though. It's beautiful and fun to drive. Wouldn't complain about anything other than my unfortunate oil leak issues
I’m bouta buy a 03 g35 135kmiles but needs 02 sensor I don’t know Shit bout cars but am I valid if I just replace it I sends vids of the car it drives fine it’s just the sensor
Have owned many of the G35 even an FX35 throughout the years and I’ll add another common oil leak source is the oil filter cooler hose around the oil filter area.
@@Nestle245 for it’s class and size pretty darn good, literally a lifted 350z for the family. It’s the closest thing you’ll get to a Porsche Macan/Cayenne in the Japanese world without the maintenance costs.
@@Nestle245 oh absolutely steering feel wise it’s an underrated gem from Infiniti/Nissan I’m telling you. It’s frankly the closest thing you can get a Macan without maintenance costs
Welcome! These cars are actually very reliable, except there are a few issues that pop up. I am not saying don't buy the car, I just want to help educate you about issues that may pop up. Hope this helped you out! @Benedetto D3 Yes, check out a few RU-vid videos to make sure you are capable and comfortable to do so before you buy just the bushings. I wish you luck my friend!
I enjoy the g35. mines got awd and was upgraded to stage 1 tuning on a mustang dino. It was quite an experience. And we haven't even scratched the surface yet! Forge the internals and reconstruct yourselves a boosted masterpiece. Do yourselves a favor. If you wanna learn a fun car. Go for G. PS. It's easier to find sedans in better condition a lot of people beat on the coupes hard. Can you blame them?
I owned my 2008 G35x from 108k-135k miles and fortunately the only issue i had on this list was a leaky valve cover gasket. Now I’ve upgraded to the Q50 Red Sport
Do you like your red sport? I was checking them out at the dealership when I brought my G in for maintenance, and they look beautiful but I’ve heard mixed things.
I've been pretty lucky so far with my G35, I've had the driver side window problem, sunroof problem, fuel gauge reading wrong, and an exhaust leak that I fixed a few months ago. Pretty minor stuff and it's all worth it to have this great car! Btw I have the 05 coupe
I have the 06 sedan, and the only problem I have is the fuel gauge reading wrong, and the dead sunroof. Does your driver side window automatically goes up then goes down a little too?
@@77ks41 my g35 coupe has 240k km on it which is about 150k miles and it's still running great. Just make sure that the car has no engine problems before you buy it :)
Got a green 2003 4 door G35 for 3K with only 130,000 miles on it got it off of craigslist here in philly. Buy one off a private seller and make sure they have service records mine runs great.
@@theodoregraham622 this guy is asking for 5k and it’s pretty clean but you just still never know. I was mostly looking to see what someone else’s thoughts on it would be
This was extremely helpful as I'm starting to save money up for either a G35 or the slightly cheaper i35, I mainly want the engine as I love that trumpet noise and it's a pretty reliable engine
I got an 05 DE and luckily the only issues I've had are more inconveniences then problems.. the window motors sticking, the trunk button failing and my driver power seat moving up at random.. oh and the dreaded failing fuel gauge.. other then that, for a 18 year old sport car, she's still running strong and a joy to drive..
Looking at G35 2005 Coupe. I've not seen the car in person, but its being sold at a dealership in a different province that seems to have a solid reputation. It's got 140k miles but has been safetyed and has passed a 150 point inspection. Is it too risky?? Need advice. Its going for 5000 plus tax.
I got that lifetime warranty on the camshaft sensors... Gotta use it every few years. Other than that, super reliable haha. I had a coil fail once because the previous owner didn't gap one of the spark plugs.
This is true... ...it's not like olden day headlights, you have to have that inner wheel well splash guard in, otherwise the ballast will get ruined and replacement is expensive.
Original Owner 05 6MT Coupe. The issues I've had throughout the 17 years: P0340 Cracked Dashboard Control Arm Bushings 1 quart of oil per oil change Notchy Transmission Headlights plastic foggy Drivetrain noise Paint clearcoat damage 18 city/26 highway MPG Still a fun car to drive that I will never sell it.
@@jaysway8972 A well maintained G35 will give you smiles for years to come. On the other hand, if it has been Raced, Wrecked, or Riced, stay away from it. Like any neglected vehicle, it can easily turn into a Money Pit.
G35 sedan03 had her for 5yrs minor issues very sporty fast love 💕 keep up with the maintenance oil change etc .🙌 Reliable car for sure . I rather drive her than my Mercedes Benz any day.🤞😂
Way more quality in the G35. Hands down. These cars are going up in value like the 300 ZX twin Turbo and the Toyota Supra. They will never see the value of those cars but they're definitely going up.
Not sure what’s so hard God made a pure sinless body for him to walk among us in it was made he let it grow and walked in it it was his body to sacrifice for us all his vehicle like we have our own Jesus was Gods body God in the flesh. That was easy…
- check the belts or don't turn on the AC at all - tiptronic sometimes go out but it's fun as hell when it's back on -buy some pliers for the oil cap because you'll sprain your fingers trying to screw it off
sorry to hear you totaled it. prayers that you recover from that. i just totaled my car saturday evening in a major wreck and id was because of God, i am alive. crazy
the window regulators go out but not as frequently as the window regulator motors do if u have a grind this is cause by worn synchro, the double cone synchro's tend to fail on higher mileage gearboxes-a fluid change is a band aid fix lol other than that good video
If you keep the trans properly lubricated and without debris, it would help the longevity of the trans, even if it’s already having issues. Sure, it wouldn’t cure the problem if it’s already so bad.
@@AutoMotivate no, the problem is more the design of the non cd009 transmissions. Nissans design choice orginally used double cone synchros in 1,3, and 4.And used a triple cone synchro for 2nd.On the CD009 nissan used triple cone synchros on 1,2 and 3 and used a double cone on 4th.A triple cone synchro makes shifting very very smooth, a double cone also does, but not to the extend that a triple cone does (triple cones have more rings)
silver 04 g35 with 75k miles and have had no problems. the only things i don’t like about the car is that the doors are very heavy and weigh the car down and if you’re over 5’9 you will be very uncomfortable sitting in the back
I have to comment here. At the 4:36 mark you mention taking out spark plugs to determine which cylinder is misfiring. This tells me that you've never once changed spark plugs in one of these before. You have to remove the intake manifold to change spark plugs in these and you cant do that and run the engine. Plus, a proper scan tool will tell you which cylinder is misfiring.
I have not replaced spark plugs in the VQ, however, from what I have seen, you have to remove the breather tube. There are videos out on replacing the spark plugs without removing the intake manifold.
Same here man, I have an 05 DE at around 160k miles. I’ve only changed the radiator and belts and many oil changes and top offs... mostly up to 3000k miles. I for sure need to replace my bushings and tires and other things I might not be aware of but it feels good. It pulls and sounds great it’s not perfect but damn do I love her.
I have the rev up infinity g35 only problem is the engine Would over heat , the motor for the windows broke , and that about it haven’t ran into any more problems yet .
@@deasiabranch-white2095 after 3 months of owning it I got all the common issues that come with wear & tear, such as camshaft sensors failure, crankshaft sensor failure, window motor not working, knock sensor harness failure. But honestly you learn a lot just by fixing them
Lol I've owned 5 g35s, 1 g37 and 1 350z and im telling you right now, you are not wrong I've had every single issue you mentioned in this video from the front control arms going out to the window regulator aswell, to the oil consumption (I would just top it off every other week) to the p0300 code making one of my first g35 take a dump to changing the camshaft & crankshaft sensors to basically everything you mentioned in this video, literally lol. Nice vid on the basic maintenance and things to go wrong on the g35 👍
Swapped out the stale stock air filters with K&N pre-oiled ones. Made a nice difference and I always run 93, as 91 is nowhere to be found... 2012 Journey sedan, 80k miles.
G35 coupe 2003 with 114K miles, garage kept, always serviced at the dealership. I only had to change a sensor. My only problem is that I can not find another one like it in the market so I got stuck with it until the end.
Great decision my friend! Take care of it and do routine maintenance and the car will serve you well! (Assuming the previous owner didn't tear it a part)

@@marquaviouschester6947 that is the WORSE advice to give anyone. Please guys DO NOT ever let your oil light come on. Usually by that Point the damage is already done. Best advice is to sand down your min-max oil coverage area to get that fuzzy and Hazy look to it. You will be able to see where your oil levels are better. Also when pulling out dipstick, right as you’re pulling the dipstick nearly all the way out grab bottom end with other hand and slowly pull out preventing the oil level area from smudging all over over the dipstick.
@@euroatlantaz1651 what damage? ive been doing that since i got the car. still drives like normal, gears are normal, and ive been driving it in and out of the city, nothing happened, broke or anything. all it has right now is a small oil leak. i have a 06 g35 sedan
If you run low in oil, so low the oil light comes on and give the car high revs, the engine has a very high potential of blowing. Imagine running on only 10-20% of oil, taking a tight turn in higher rpms, all the oil in the oil pan rushes to one side of the oil pan and the pick up tube can’t pick up any more oil. You now have rod knock. Most people who drive these cars are spirited drivers. I would definitely recommend checking the oil level once a week, depending how severe the problem is.
@@AutoMotivate it doesn't come on. It just blinks and when it blinks, I pull over and put some oil in it until it stops rattling. The one time I didn't put oil in it was because I didn't know that cap on top of the engine was the oil reservoir. I tried to screw it off but the thing was cemented on and autozone is so fucking useless, just give me a set of pliers to forcefully screw the thing off. The engine rattled and the check engine light came on. That's all that happened
