Watch this before buying fork cap extensions! I remember looking for this info long before I purchased the fork cap extensions I’m running now, but didn’t realize how it might not work on the stock sportster cartridge forks. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.

Well done very informative video, I ride a dyna and the internals are pretty much the same, people often ask how to go +2" up front, if they should get plus two caps, or longer tubes and I always point them in the direction of the extended dampers if they're on a budget, and drop in cartridges with longer tubes if they have the money. My current setup is a lot like yours only 49mm. Extended dampers, patriot springs and burly brand preload adjusters.

Hi! Interesting video. Could you please explain why one fork leg has the cartridge system, and the other one not? Why are they not both one or the other? Thanks.

I’m not expert, but my understanding is that this is a newer option for some Harley bikes… they claim on their website “Improves resistance to front brake dive, improves cornering and enhances bottoming control”… I think it’s another way for them to make money on their Parts and Accessories because you can upgrade the single side to a double and of course that’s at a cost, or remove it and replace it with the symmetrical set up. Again, I’m no expert but that’s what my research came up with. Also, lots of aftermarket support is designed for the standard suspension, so maybe a way to eat into that market a bit? Idk. Why don't somebody make the extension for a cartridge fork? It doesn't seem like it would be difficult to manufacture.

This is applicable to both the 39 mm and also the 49mm. This is a 39mm front end from my 2017 sportster. Thanks for watching.

@@nooowayyjose Iv never even heard of a 48mm what is that on? You didn’t mean the 49mm Dyna front end did you?

@@riffraffchoppers Yeah, my bad, 49mm… I think its applicable to both. But I’m not a hundred on that since I dont own both and have worked on anything other than a sportster.
