I've had issues with my Vintage Air AC system in my Blazer ever since I've owned it. I also bought a brand new Vintage Air system to install in my C10 and it has the same issue! In this video I try to finally solve the mystery of the intermittent cooling.

I bought their surefit system for my 91 Camaro. Didnt have any issues with it... works great and was easy to install. Damn good quality

great video! i would suggest pressure testing the system with nitrogen prior to vacuuming the system down. you can hold a vacuum but still have a leak when it is under pressure.

I just got through putting the Gen 5 system in my '56 F100. So far it's doing a great job. It's right next to getting in the green zone on my thermometer and it's Great. I don't think that I could stand it any cooler.

I called vintage air after watching this video this weekend . I guess I’m nervous because I just spent a lot of money on this system for my truck . It’s not here yet so I asked them what’s up with that . Dude assured me it would be fine . I hope so .

Did you get the new gen 5 unit? If so they addressed this issue and have improved the system significantly.

So far every system I've done on vintage air, I just put 2 cans and they all work amazing. Drove my 69 camaro from baton rouge to Miami setup like that and worked like a modern car the entire time. Even had to turn it on the lowest setting cause got so cold in the car haha. On 90+ degree days mind you.

I think the kit from LMC truck might be better? But you’re definitely spot on with the pressures. You definitely need to check your low side and high side pressures especially on a hot day. It also depends on when you installed it. If you installed during the winter time your low and high side pressures will change.

I have the same system in my 85 silverado It would freeze you out for 30 min or so then stop cooling . its the little multi switch next to the passenger side headlight area i jusy hot wired the compressor so i can turn it on and off with a switch on the dash cause it wont cycle on and off on its own for some reason. I keep a thermometer in the vent and i cut it off when it gets too cold. when its hot out i can leave it on almost all the time but in the spring i have to turn it off and on a lot. I know thats not the right way to fix it but it keeps me cool. The condensor on these systems is a dual flow dual pass type so it does the same job in less space thats why its so smaller than the original. If it cools really good at initial start up it should continue to cool at the same performance rate . be sure the fan schroud is in good shape and fan clutch is operating properly

We had a similar problem in a Falcon wagon with a 331 stroker and an AOD. Ended up changing the trans cooler out with Derale remote unit with a fan. Problem solved.

You’re not alone, I have cooling issue with my VA in my 67 c10. It seems to do well in town but on a road trip the compressor cycles off way too much. My temps only reach a low of 47 then work their way up to 50 before coming back down. I’ve been chasing this problem for over a year. I’ve taken to three shops hoping they could find something I couldn’t but no luck. One guy is even a VA dealer. What vent temps were you seeing prior to the condenser swap? I will most likely order that oversized condenser and see how it works out for me. Please report back and let us know if you solved your issue. Please add a link to the condenser in your description. Thanks

Comprerssor isnt running enough ,i had the same problem so i hot wired the compressor so i could control it and it will freeze you out, try it temporarily but be sure you have enough refrigerant. i keep a thermometer in one of my vents, when it gets below 40 degrees i switch off the compressor. i know thats not the right way it should work but ive been doing this for 10 years ,you just have to regulate it yourself, on a hot day i can leave it on all the time if im just driving up to Lowes or Wal mart about 5 miles away

@@jbncnow I like this idea. do you cycle it yourself to avoid freezing up the evaporator? Or do you just allow it to stay engaged? I live in south Texas where it’s summer year round así perhaps there would be no need to cycle it off. Any tips on wiring it up? Thanks

I just got back into watching your channel regularly I love your road trips an the line of trucks you have but my boy you gotta stop using that crescent wrench I know you're using it just cause you don't want to have to switch out tools if you don't have a rolling tool kart get one it was painful watching you take off the AC lines with the crescent wrench but keep making killer videos bro

Real ac manufacturers size their equipment and things have to match. They need the right capacity condensor no matter what size car they make it for.

You would think you’d be able to use a factory condenser
@yeahbuddygarage
@yeahbuddygarage 4 месяца назад
You could but the factory drier is mounted on the firewall and the way the hard lines come off the factory condenser would make it a little tricky to mount the drier in the grille.

Old style tube and fin condensers do not dissipate nearly as much heat as newer parallel flow condensers. R134a runs at a higher pressure, requiring a more efficient condenser than a system using R12 refrigerant, and as a result tube and fin condensers do not work well with R134a. I didn't watch the whole video, but I did notice he had the can upside down while charging. Don't do that. You would be charging as a liquid, and as we all know, compressors do not compress liquids. You got lucky you didn't damage your compressor.
