I main Juri. As a longtime Shoto player who's played many different SF games, I started with Ryu, but always felt like I wanted more agility. A few months into SF6, I finally tried Juri, and she clicked. I love her speed, flair, link combos and moves, and her Shoto elements really help make her a fun yet familiar choice.
New player to street fighter but coming from Tekken I absolutely love Zangief. Its hard mode for sure, but the bliss of reading an opponent is what I'm about.
I'm surprised y'all didn't say Rashid for the fun pick. He gets to throw projectiles, wall jump, double jump, and all sorts of fun stuff. His level 2 is mad fun I'll tell ya what
I think Rashid being DLC automatically disqualifies him as a fun/beginner pick. At least for the time being. Being told to buy dlc or an expensive controller as a total beginner is pretty deflating I imagine.
@@thesaltmerchant4564 The issue being that they shouldn't have to pay the extra $5.99 for a character to have fun when they already paid $60-$70 for the game, especially since there's fun to be had without Rashid
I love ryu man he’s so simple but that makes winning with him feel all the more satisfying. You know you didn’t have any exploits or shenanigans that carried you it was all your strength determination and will. Hard to close the gap with him but when you do the damage is unbelievable.
Blanka is a blast to play! He can cheese people that don't know how to deal with certain things, and he has room to play with more tools as you improve like SA2 and the Blanka-chan doll!
No love for my Jamie 😭. I've always loved fighting games but never learned how to really play. I've challenged myself to finally learn, and chose to main Jamie. I love his moves and style. It's been a hard grind getting to masters but I'm almost there !
@darkheat9946 yeah it's kinda lame. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i honestly believe if more people just really tried to get great at other characters, we'd see much more winning variety in comps.
I play Guile cause I don't want to learn what other characters can do. I'm gonna throw boom and flashkick and they can learn to deal with it. Dodging all JPs
Honestly, it would be dope to have this sort of a video for all fighting games, at least the major ones. I'm mostly an NRS player who's also been playing Street Fighter for quite some time, but Ill definitely be picking up Tekken when T8 comes out in a week and I've been wanting to finally learn some Guilty Gear. It would be really nice to have a video where people go over which characters are great for beginners, combo enthusiasts, great fundamentals etc. I'm sure there's plenty videos like these already on RU-vid but this format was very digestible
@@andrewbyers2587It depends though. You're saying a lot of people, but have no actual evidence to back it up. Secondly, I'd like to say that power does equal to more fun to an extent. Sure, there are exceptions, but let's not act like it's not fun to play top tier chars.
I’ve been playing SF6 since launch and I’ve primarily played Juri but I moved over to playing AKI. With Juri, I enjoyed having some strong buttons and some small but easy to link up combos. Now playing as AKI, I’ve managed to get some easy to link up combos, and now I have some options to setup and intimidate opponents. Honestly I’ve enjoyed playing AKI a lot more due to the flexibility in play style she has, I can play lame or I can mix you up and out smart you.
Yeah I agree. I think Juri's fun but ultimately has a few things about her that's a bit of a letdown when it comes to fun factor. It's mostly that her combos are kind of boring, and using her enhanced versions of her medium and heavy fuha moves add so much scaling it's rarely optimal. I've yet to see a juri combo in a tournament that made me want to play the character outside of maybe some high/love feng shui engine setups. All this is stuff that AKI has, while also not being a cr-mk drive rush character. I did go back to Chun/Kim/cammy because I just like how they play more, so I play less AKI these days, but she is a super fun character with lots of depth.
My mans, great thoughts on the game. Love hearin' the "just startin' out" talk. Dhalsim is legit that complicated and I'm glad JP's there as an intermediate setup character. lol. But for real, I'm all over Manon as a rookie because, frankly, her gameplan is fun with the in and out movement elements. Already at low level, I'm wishing those target combos were more guaranteed on the command throw conversions, but for light combos and space control, it's pretty cool. She appealed because I always enjoyed the hell out of Ivy in Soul Calibur. Until they bring in Ed, Marisa wasn't fitting my boxer fix and they don't have a Vega/Lord Raptor feeling character, so Manon is fitting the best and it's just fun for me. I've always enjoyed some Honda and Guile, but man do they feel harder to play even in Arcade mode than in older games!
I've been playing street fighter for many, many, many years. I absolutely LOVE Honda. I even play strictly Modern. I just straight-up play him like I would SF4 Balrog and I am having a blast! Diamond here I come !
Awesome! As somebody who is new to fighting games and let alone street fighter, I mean new competitively, I play them a lot casually with friends and stuff but, this will really help me out big time I think as I’ve had the game since launch but, there’s so many cool characters that I’m honestly not sure which one I really want to choose so, I will just choose a character that looks cool and go into ladders and single player modes and kind of find a character that way, as there’s no point in diving into the hours and hours it takes to get good at fighting games if there’s not a character I think is cool and fun.
I didn't know anything about the game, all I saw was how cool they made Ken look and that made me want to play it. Finally executing the run punch combos feels so satisfying.
Thanks for this, I actually am really enjoying Dee Jay with all of his energetic personality and flashy moves and it’s weird because I’ve never actually been interested in Dee Jay before when I’ve tried to get into other street fighter games casually with friends and this is the first I’m learning competitively but, there’s just something about him this time around with his animations and everything after going through some of his combo trials in modern mode which, I haven’t even finished yet and he’s already clicked and I am so ready to learn him even if he does require a bit more input and knowledge of the game that’s fine, I just think visually he looks so badass to not learn the game with.
When I do finally get sf6 on ps5 I'm probably gonna go with Kimberly to start. She looks awesome. And with her walkman and cans of spray paint, it's like art and music and those two things are big things to me so it feels like a perfect choice :)
I'm a beginner. Got the game this weekend and I really like Luke. He reminds me of my favorite KOF character, Terry Bogard. Playing classic as I'm super used it from my days playing old fighters such as SF3, CvS2, KOF 2003.
I've played SF my whole life and I mostly affiliated with all rounder shotos. And for me in SF6 I went with Luke for he was different type of shoto and I like his personality.
As a Gief player I appreciate combos but yea they don't wow me, I find it more impressive when people convert in rare situations like jabbing Cammy out of hooligan and hitting her with a Level 3 after and etc.
Kimberly I would say would be a good character to start it with. No dp inputs doesn’t have an invincible dp however all of her inputs are qcf or qcb and once you get better at the game her combos and mixup become very rewarding even tho she doesn’t do much damage
11:03 I usually brainwash myself when it comes to combos. I make myself do the same few over and over all day. I’m not the best but i definitely got good. You’re vids are very insightful👍
Im steady and relentless, so Ryu/Gief are my guys. When I want to play patient, I’ll dabble in Guile, and when I want to blitz the opposition, then Honda is the car of choice! Lol. Those four, and yes I was a kid when SF2 came out in the 90’s.
Picked juri first coz out of all the combo trials i had the easiest time with her. No need to do perfect flash knuckles and stuff like luke. But then costume 3 came out so had to switch for the sauce.
6:34 bro this shit was hilarious to me. The second i started getting better my friends stopped plying with me 🤣🤣🤣🤣. It aint my fault, but doing cool combos and learning the game is fun to me
Brand new to fighters, but played a bit (on kb) at launch and loved Marissa. Tried to come back to the game last night trying ken/zang, cos I got a leverless,,, but its like 5+minutes queue times for ranked in OCE? wtf happened?!
Big boy throw fix problem. Modern grapplers plow through huge chunks without needing much "combo" as a real answer for you. If you can't 360 mption just do Modern. Modern grapples are a problem.
@@liquidbiden I appreciate your response but are there any characters in the middle of the pack that can do decent damage with smaller combos and not heavy pressure characters?
Most characters aren't really that combo reliant but some have way more situational routes. i would play someone like luke or marissa who have buttons you can get to diomand while forgetting they exist.
Just picked up sf6 a couple months ago. Coming from smash and this is my first traditional fighting game, the combos were kinda intimidating, so I went with Gief. Figured I'd drop him once I got better. Now I'm a Diamond 2 and wouldn't have it any other way than SPDing fools into the ground
I know Brian doesn't want to say it because he doesn't want to be accused of bias. But JP is fun as fuck. He has objectively the most sauce in the game. Which, like he said, takes a lot of time to optimize all the situations. But it's so fun to work on. And you really feel yourself when you're snapping and converting off the weirdest hits.
At higher levels definitely, he's for the most part the sauce character. Whenever a character has setups that will trigger at some point without putting you in animation lock that character is guaranteed to have some crazy stuff. Kim has been a lot of fun for me for the same reason. Trying to find can setups that aren't necessarily about damage but getting good oki, doing drive damage, forcing some disgusting mix-up, is really really fun. She doesn't have the same sauce as JP for sure, but she makes up for it by doing 8 consecutive setups in a row, forcing you to think and adapt very quickly.
As an arena fighter, I’ve tried multiple times to find a main for SF6. This game is constantly on my mind. Luke & Marisa are easy, Jury & Lily are fun, JP DOES intrigue me, I’ve used AKI the most (I like the poison). I like everything about Manon and Honda seems like he’d be really good for me to master because my buddy John, who’s incredibly smart, has decided to main Ghile. Idk man, I’m so use to having similar controls and having a POOL of characters to use. I am struggling mentally over here 😂
@@M40A3Tibby love to hear this! bro I always tell ppl, especially newcomers, to play whoever they like & intrigues them the most. Regardless if they are easy or hard to play. B/c even if they’re challenging you’re gonna love the process of learning them & matches will be way more fun this way. Also even when you go on those rough losing streaks will be easier to endure when you’re playing characters you like the most. Otherwise the grind will be insufferable lol
@@versatilelord8893 thank you for your kind words! And yes, I completely agree that having a main that actually interest me is a huge help. I also don’t see any modern aki’s online so I’m not getting into too many mirror matches, which is nice because that’s something I’ve always hated about fighting games
Sf6 is the first fighting game I’ve ever REALLY put time into. Ive tried 4 and player Juri but sucked pretty bad, but now with modern controls on Juri I finally get to play well and have fun. Just hit plat last night and I’m pretty proud of that. Don’t be embarrassed by the control scheme if someone gives you shit. Play how you want to play. Fighting games need more people to get off cod and these other garbage ass titles.
Only thing i disagree with is scrolling through character select. I think people should at least watch the playstyle or watch the first character guide where it explains how they play. Based on looks I would have picked JP but i definitely wanted a rushdown character more than a zoner.
I started playing Honda because I didnt want to join the Ken army and Ryu wasnt doing it for me and lemme tell ya, even when you’re losing you’re laughing all the way to the bank. Such a funny goofy character lmao
As someone who is using Gief in 6 and never liking grapplers I don't fully agree with Brian in this instance. I'm having a lot of fun doing combos with Gief. It's fun hitting someone with an 18 hit combo and then watching the gears turn in my opponent afterwards.
I always pick my character based on their theme. I can deal with having bad matchups, or annoying movesets, whatever. I can't deal with having to listen to a shit song. Now, I know Brian would just put on his own music, but the themes in this game react to the state of the game. it's part of the experience.
I played fighting games my whole life, but just with friends nearby. So im not good, because the meta is spamming the strongest shit. Since strive I`ve been playing online and I think I improved a lot, but Im still shit tier. My next buy will be ST 6 and I will probably try to play Blanka, he is cool and the best brazillian representation.
Yes if you want to get bullies in the corner all the time because you have no defense and be drive impactable at will cause your zonning buttons are not cancelable, and have a special attack who's suppose to anti air but don't most of the time because it's too slow , and spend 3 bars of drive metter in à drive cancel combo to do the same damage of the simple poke of any other character then yes you can play Zangief 😂😂. But even there he is the best. ZANNNNNNNGGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF LOYAL FANS RISE !!!!!!!!!!
Honda is so repetitive is no fun for me. Shotos already bore me, Honda kills me from dullness. If you get fun only from winning right now, pick Honda. If get most of your fun from winning but can learn a bit first, pick a Shoto (but not Ryu). If you don't want any fun but only want to win later, pick JP. If you don't care too much about winning, but just want to get absurd fun all the time, pick Blanka.
I feel like no character in SF6 fits me at this time, I dabbled left and right and around. Played a decent Guile into plat IV, but herding sheep is tough so I burned out. Currently hoping Year 2 brings a breath of fresh air :/
got to love the Honda propaganda. when he is like bottom 3 in the usage stats. people will pick Honda even at low level and get bodied. can we just stop picking on Honda for the jokes? it gets old really
If you’re a new player just pick one of the 7 top tier characters, mash buttons and that’s it, game is garbage, same damn characters winning in tournaments, low tier characters struggle and you have to sweat to pull a win, Capcom don’t want to give some love to characters like Jamie, Kimberly, etc. Game has become so boring and trash watching the same characters winning in pro play🐒💩
I can't think of a faster way to quit playing than by going in with this "game is garbage" mindset. Why on earth would you ever keep wasting your time on something you think is trash?
I'm definitely one of those players that lean more on the side non combo focus gameplay, preferring to get big damage after opening up people and making reads. I just love the dopamine that I get from reading someone jumping with Gief's air spd.
Love how many styles there are. I'm the opposite; as a Juri main I love combos, and I get dopamine from that perfect backjump to punish a forward-advancing move with something like: j.HK > HP > DRC > 2HP > MP > 2MP > Go Ohatsu > Saihasho > Ankensatsu > 2MK > Go Ohatsu > Lv3
