i got my bearded dragon a month ago! He’s so sweet and still very young (only 100grams)! He’s my 4th reptile. He had trouble eating for the first month but since a few days he finally started eating frequently!!!
Hell yeah we quickly realized when we added a bearded dragon to our family as an adult (re-home) that we should just try to grow our own superworm and dubia roach colonies. My dragon goes crazy for all insects, but especially superworms, and so anyway now we own a lot of superworms too.
I’ve been doing research for the past 4 years now and I still learn something new every time. But two years in I reduced a bearded dragon he had no lights at all he had stone substrate and he was just black, I went out got loads of stuff for him with in a few days all his colour came out, however I did re-home him because he wouldn’t let me handle him cause he had never been handled before. So I re-homed him to someone I knew and had lots of experience with bearded dragons. I’m still not ready to get one to keep yet though so I’m deffo still learning. So thank you for your vids
I love how I’m watching this even tho I’ve had my beardie for about 3 years and just bought another one. I also have a leopard gecko, African fat tail and a chameleon. I do a ton of research before I get them. Couldn’t imagine not caring enough to research them.
Im so happy I found your videos. The best info and most well presented I’ve found so far. I’m trying to learn more about bearded dragons. I got one and I’m terrified I’m going to do something wrong.
I’ve had my Beardie for about 5 months after owning other reptiles before and doing as much research as I could and it’s still come with challenges. I adore her and wouldn’t be without her now but I couldn’t agree more that they shouldn’t be sold as ideal beginner reptiles!
I recently took on an unwanted bearded dragon.... and it still confuses me how pet shops can keep selling them to small children. These pets are so complex. The fact he hasn't done a poo since I've homed him 2 weeks ago.. already something I didn't think I would need to stress and wait for lol
Working at a pet store i mainly tell people to do their own research because i only know so much, which is better than some others (i have some pet lizards) and i filly agree about the care guides, the place i work at doesnt have them but even if we did i would definately not recomend them. That being said a lot of people who work in pet stores want the best for the customers and they care about the pets, we arent always right but we (at least my coworkers and i) do care about the pets. Just wanted to say.
@TFUSION how does a few spelling mistakes matter? I just dont bother to proofread when most will understand what i am writing. How does that make me a child? Oh, plus im dyslexic, so maybe focus on other things?
We have beard dragon that wasn't taken care of she would hiss and bite but she doesn't bite but does not like to be held Or should bolt what should we do?
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to always go for bigger when it comes to enclosures! They loove the space. Mine is still young and she is in a 6x2x2. I plan to upgrade her in a few years to an 8x4x4 😊 Also breeding your own roaches may seem gross at first (I don't mind personally I quite like them) but it is so worth it in the long run. Great video!
@@hollywoodreiner851 Haha I sure hope so! She utilizes ALLL the space, it really makes you realize how much space they actually need. Thank you, have a great day as well ☀️
Finally an owner of a bearded dragons who don’t over feed them! I see these fat beardies all over and it makes me question if I’m somehow starving mine to death, even though I feed him :/ granted he’s also ancient
My boyfriends brother had a bearded dragon but he sadly passed away in November 2020. He was old and sick. He was a rescue. The people before the before my boyfriends brother kept him in a hamster cage yes I’m not joking a hamster cage. Awful I know. But my boyfriends brother did his research and snurdles the bearded dragon lived to be about 15 years old. His nickname was mr wink because he would trick you to think he was sleeping with one eye open. Lol. And ps I think metabolic bone disease is a part of why snurdles passed away other than his age. He has a uromastix lizard now. Named spiker.he’s cool lookin
bearded dragons are my favourite lizards ever!! 😍 if i ever got a reptile of any kind, i’d love to get one. thankfully-ish i can’t, because i’m scared and grossed out by any and every roach/worm/feeder insect.
Thinking about getting a new reptile but rather scared. Mainly because my cat just broke through the roof of my cresties terrarium and fucking killed him. Its been about 24 hours (wasnt home because it was CHRISTMAS) and I havent found the poor guy. We can assume the worst.
OMG OMG OKAY UPDATE: I FOUND THE LITTLE JERK 4 DAYS LATER IN MY GODDAMN LAUNDRY BAJAJJDDJSJSHDVSVSHS HES IN A SMALL TEMPORARY TERRARIUM RN AND DROPPED HIS TAIL BUT IS OTHERWISE THRIVING
Once you have the enclosure set up they aren't too bad to look after. Lighting is important for them however so definitely need to make sure you have that right. I've been feeding mine silk worms recently as he's 10 now so slowing down a bit and can struggle to catch the crickets
Dude your hilarious,I’m a first time beardy owner, and it’s easy, but after hearing your video, I’m like damn bro u make it sound like we’re raising children. Hella funny bro, but everything u said Is spot on😂
As someone who rescues dragons AFTER they’ve been given inadequate food, lighting, heat, and diet, THANK YOU for making their needs understood, and emphasizing they need SPECIALIZED care, which owners are RESPONSIBLE for when taking tjem home! 😀❤️
I don't even know why I'm here, my uncle has owned so many of these cuties in his lifetime. He might get me one for my bday in july, it's gonna be a leatherback because they aren't as spikey in my opinion
I'm a beginner, and bearded dragons is definitely a reptile I'm interested in. I've had a look at this video, and others + done tons of research. Could you give me some ideas of what to lookout for when handling them. Such as stress, sickness, injury, etc.
It’s easy to tell if they’re stressed while handling, they’ll usually darken their beard a bit, may attempt to run, take a swipe at ya or in more serious situations take a defensive stance and do a threat display. They use body language to communicate with each other and it’s fairly easy to learn what they are trying to say. Injury and illness are hard to watch for because they are prey animals and will hide it as best they can. So a good way to keep on top is to check their poop because it tells you a lot about their condition, and watch for any behavior changes. A yearly vet visit is also recommended. Weighing them consistently can also help because losing a lot of grams in a short amount of time means something is up. Also learning to do a very basic physical can help though for most keepers you don’t need to do that, it’s usually for rescues or chronically ill dragons. Injuries are fairly easy to spot if you handle daily or nearly daily. Also making sure to be supervising floor time can help prevent a lot of it and making sure there’s nothing harmful in the enclosure. So like no sharp sticks or stuff that can easily fall over or on-top of them.
Add rocks or branches so he can get closer to the bulb! But make sure you’re using a temp gun to measure the surface temperature so it doesn’t get too hot
Like Tyler said height might be an issue so using rocks and branches is a good tip. You said you have tried multiple bulbs does that mean different wattages, Spotlights or floodlights etc? It can be hard to find the issue since it will largely depend on placing and the size of the enclosure! I wish you luck.
I had this problem with my Chinese water dragons enclosure. What finally did it for me was to do a heat emitter bulb and a basking spot bulb in the same spot. Check temp regularly to make sure you don't get it to hot. Mine is still a baby and in a 3 foot tall enclosure, 100 watt heat emitter and 150 watt basking bulb works perfect for me. Jist check your temps regularly.
Such a helpful video to watch thank you so much. I think it’s a bit harder here in Australia to avoid buying from pet shops as we have to have a reptile license to own reptiles or should I say own "a" reptile cos beginners are only permitted to own one reptile. But I’d like to say that our local pet shop which is one of the only places on the coast that actually stock reptiles do look after their stock. Also on a random note, I live in the only state in Australia where Rabbits are illegal to own. You can’t even own a hamster or chinchilla in Australia either 😫 I’m living in the wrong country 🤦🏻♀️
Thank you for this video! I’m wanting to get one, and even though I know they are not the easiest to take care of, it’s the only reptile my mom will allow me to have in the house😅
The other day I was at petco and noticed one of the baby Dragons was star gazing. Meaning it probably had atadenovirus and if one had it probably was transmited to the others. All those baby dragons are doomed to anyone who buys them.
Can u do it about rabbits because I am getting a rabbit hopefully in a month and I did do over a year worth of research but I just want to make sure I’m ready soo ya
I’ve had so many hamsters and they are not breed nicely so they just get sick.. (I’ve done a lot of research about hamsters if ur going to get a hamster watch Victoria Rachel!) my hamster passed away last night and I’m thinking of getting a bearded dragon. I’ve always wanted a reptile!
I was even surprised that bearded dragons eat live insects! That was kind of a deal breaker...Thanks so much for this honest video, I totally agree after watching this, bd's need a complex regime of balanced diet, lighting and expensive vets ..So I guess they're only "easy" based on their demure, gentle behavior and versatility.
I want a Beardie and a leopard gecko and I know pretty much everything there is to know about leopard geckos, so now starts the research portion for beardies
I am 29 years old and a very responsible pet owner and go above and beyond minimum needs for all my pets because seeing them happy makes me happier than anything. I cannot imagine a child or even an ill-prepared adult taking care of a bearded dragon. I love mine, but she is high maintenance for sure. I’ve had to force medicine down her throat and even give her eye drops and it’s a war to do so!! 🤣
I havent watched this until now and my friend texted me asking for advice because they want to get a beardie! (I've had one in the past and im a zoology major) but it made me so happy to be able to give them the information that they need to take care of their beardie correctly! I also sent them this video.
Hey Tyler! I was wondering why my beardie moves out of her hot stop and goes onto a cool hide or sometimes in the hot hides ( she doesn’t do it all the time but occasionally she does)
She is thermoregulating! Just like we like to move from the sun to the shade when we get hot so do they. However if she does it a lot it could mean it's too hot there!
once my lights caused a fuse to blow while I was out, he was fine but I was screaming because I felt so bad. it was summer in australia so his temperatures didn't go down much
In that period of time there is no reason to ever stress in most places in Australia you wont need night heat let alone just a few hours because of a fuse thats for a central bearded dragon if you have an eastern then you have no issues with no night heat basically everywhere
@@turtleman190 yeah that's why I mentioned being in australia, he doesn't need much heat during the summer but if it's an extremely cold night I have a ceramic heat bulb as well. He's still alive and well though, living his best life
