Worst part is, there's not a damn thing anyone can do about it either. PSA holds the highest value on the market so it's either pay up or you won't get the highest market value for your collectibles. This has literally been turned into a scalper and scammer market being abused by greed.

History has shown the DM just doesn't hold up to Blue Eyes. So the margin for profit might be low. Me personally I'm burnt out on them milking the same old artworks over and over and over again. I love the older stuff but i feel like nostalgia can only be milked for so long before people get bored of it.

Huge Konami L ngl I also feel as though DM is much less iconic than Blue Eyes and the whole "platinum" style feels much less appropriate for DM. They should've used a different metal at least.

I'll be honest here, there is no universe in which I was paying the $1000 for the previous one, let alone $1300 for this one. I do think its very telling (and not in a good way) that one of the biggest "whales" in the scene is getting priced out of a premium product. If the premium product has too much of a "premium price" for one of the largest collectors in the scene, who the fuck is this for?

As a coin collector for over a decade the silver price isn’t very relevant to the price of a collectible like this, however, I do agree that $1K-$1.3K is too much markup. Something in the $400-$700 range would be more reasonable. You hit the nail on the head with the idea of them peeking at the secondary market and trying to grab the piece they normally don’t have access to. Great video, keep crushing! 🙌

It's insane what TCG konami is doing. Look at the stainless steel DMG, DM in the Ocg. Literally 150$. It definitely shows that tcg and Ocg are 2 separate companies with different understanding of the brand and the community.

1:31 you got the info slightly wrong. The units that went to South America directly from Konami were NA units. I bought one myself from the official South American website, and I managed to get one also from NA. Both were NA. So in theory it's 1000 for the Americas and 1000 for Europe, with some extras here and there

this product would be fine if they didnt scam you on the amount of actual metable silver you are getting OR if they just made it from actual platinum like its namesake IMO. Platinum is about $31 per gram, so 22 grams is around $682. They would still be making a profit at $1300 even taking into account manufacturing costs. Conceptually i like the Idea ALOT because instead of cardboard you now have precious metal in the form of your favorite Yugioh card that you can just melt and sell if shit hits the fan with the world for w/e reason. But again, the amount of silver you get is not even worth a $20 bill.

I have made the purchase solely on being a Magician enthusiast and I have to say, they're cutomer support is terrible. The charges were processed and they have yet to provide me with a working tracking number. It really cements in my head that konami as a hole are money grubbers and I will not be making any commodity purchases from them with this markup.

The question is why make this move now? Because I’m 100% sure konami is aware of the secondary market and it’s not some breaking news to them. In fact like you mentioned Yugioh has been on a decline in the recent years, so why didn’t konami capitalise on the secondary/collectors market back in 2020 and instead they wanna up charge now when it seems like all hype has been lost. Do u think it’s because the recent sets have been performing like utter trash and it’s agonising watching every single set drop below msrp after release, so they said fuck it we’ll squeeze out what we can before all this goes to shits? Honestly worried for the future of yugioh. I still think there’s much more to be explored with this ip, fr if they started making separate anime series for each popular archetype and not just an anime about playing cards, it could attract more audience since there’s so much lore and story behind many archetypes. But it doesn’t seem like konami wants to do anything else other than sell cards, nothing wrong but they’re also doing a shit job, just my 2 cents.

Totally agree, I would love short films on charmers archetype, or on the rescute team archetype, like pokemon did on their RU-vid channel. But it seems like Konami wants to do zero advertising. Just look at how worlds 2023 was and the vast difference in presentation between the two ips. I mean give me a break, pokemon had a whole ship called the ss Anne, what did we get lol? Not to mention Iga as well of Castlevania video game making fame! As much as I love Yu-Gi-Oh and other IPs under Konami, I really have no respect for the company itself. They're about as low and greedy POS companies out there as it gets. Which it sucks to hate a company that makes products that you love so much. It's a very jaded way to feel. I wish they'd do better because I don't think they need to be so greedy to still be a success and earn the love/respect of their supporters.

I am strictly a DM collector. I have most of the DM cards ever released in varying conditions. I'll admit when I first saw this product it peaked some semblance of interest from me. Just take 1400 out from my mutual funds, grab this, put it in my shrine at home and look at it for two years and potentially get some value in the end. But really there's no story to this, no real hype, no nostalgia, and certainly no real value. Even for an aficionado like me its pointless, folks.

I got back into ygo after the plat bewd was released and did kind of wish i would have been able to get the plat bewd once i found out about it. However, i have 0 hype for this card. The main reasons being that this is the second of its kind, so theres a lot less hype AND as far as how both BEWD and dark magician are iconic, its undeniable that BEWD is far more hype and iconic for the ygo brand. I wouldn't be surprised if this card breaks even, or even sells at a loss in the aftermarket tbh. Kind of like a 10k dragon vs magicians of bonds and unity type of deal.

I know the price is a rip-off and total bullshit. I hate the idea of supporting Konami on these greed runs. However, I missed the original release of the Platinum BEWD and I don't want to miss my chance again. So I actually already bought the Platinum Dark Magician. I also was able to secure the Platinum BEWD for around $1,900. I know I might never be able to afford or get the original LOB or SDK/SDY PSA10 of either of these cards, so figured this was probably the next best thing.

I got back into the game last year to buy some releases, and then I stopped because I realized overtime, there were too many re-releases of cards. Now I see this, and this game is just not worth it. They are milking this property all they can since they want to be the only company to make the most of the brand since they own it. They don't care about quality control, they only care about the profit and that's a shame.

As badly made the Platinum Blue-Eyes was, I sadly would like to have one. Being a Blue-Eyes collector and all. Still don’t think it was worth the original MSRP. And DEFINITELY not worth it for the Platinum Dark Magician. Using hype and nostalgia can only go so far. Exploiting it will damage you in the long run. It’s quite sad honestly.

I can only comment on my own experience. I was lucky enough to purchase a platinum blue eyes at retail. I immediately sold it when it arrived for $6k. At this time 2021 every yugituber was heavily against buying this card (Ruxin, house of champs, etc) saying it wouldnt sell, waste of money, etc. thankfully I didn’t listen to them and bought it. I sold to a rich collector in Asia. I definitely believe fans in the west simply do not understand how wealthy collectors in Asia are, $1k? $5k? These small amounts mean nothing to them, just because the average fan in the west can’t afford these cards/don’t see the value doesn’t mean Asian collectors think the same way. Asian collectors love tacky things like this, if you go to asia you’ll see gaudy gold plated luxury apartments and other decor like this. A platinum blue eyes is exactly the type of thing they like. Western fans simply don’t see the value in these products. I predict the platinum dm will set out just like blue eyes did.

I think blue eyes and dark magician are completely different tiers of collectibility number one, number two the first of its kind always does well as it brings in the most hype. Number 3, the government was handing out free money so it's easy to convince somebody to purchase this as an investment since pretty much every asset class was. The reason it sold out is not Asian buyers; the reason it sold out is because north Americans could buy it. If north Americans can't buy it in the first place, Asian buyers would have to proxy it, and they can do that if they wish, I just don't think they're going to put in that much effort for it. Lastly, I'm pretty sure the Asian you sold yours to for 6k wishes he could get 6k for it today so he can buy it for much cheaper. I think the collecting climate today is different, as is the economy (regardless of country), but I guess the only way to find out what will happen is to wait until the preorder date. I don't mind being wrong, it's just I would rather put the $1300 in a TCG product that is less risky, plus not support this terrible practice by Konami. Thanks for viewing the videos.

What are you talking about??? I remember watching videos from Rux and House of Champs as well. Ruxins ONLY concern was that Konami stated it was an “initial” release of 1000, and he was worried about them reprinting more. He even stated he thought it was cool and might pick one up😂. House of Champs had the exact same criticism and he went into detail about the poor release of the product and how easy Konami made it for bots to ruin presales. Neither one was “highly against” this product, nor stated that it was a waste of money. Ruxin was literally going to buy one😂 But hey, congrats on being a scalper… I guess.

Funny enough, they actually weren't sold out instantly. In fact I think even now like over a week later after release there is still stock available. Just goes to show you that a lot of peeps aren't so willing to make the buy. However, I'm sure given there is a limited amount, that eventually over the course of a few weeks or months, they will all eventually sell out. So I doubt Konami will have anything to worry about or learn any kind of lesson from this. Greed is king in this world!

Don't see the issue really, if someone can drop 1000 on this they can drop 1300, really not that much of a difference for high end collectors. Right now I'm seeing mostly vendors and flippers up in arms about it while regular collectors really don't seem to be bothered
