End of SUMMER??? My word, your place is SO GREEN! Here in No Cal (especially THIS year with this unrelenting heat-even here in the foothills,) everything is brown and dry and lots of things are dead or dying. I have to harvest herbs in the spring/early summer at the latest. You have a beautiful garden! Thanks for the info.

That is a very different variety of Mullein than what I have. Mine has much thicker flower stalks, but much smaller flowers. I have to harvest my flowers with tweezers and there's no way I'm getting any of the base of the flower.😔

Mrs. Melissa can you please share what variety of Mullein you are growing Please. My common Mullein doesn't get flowers as large as yours Mam.

Got a question about leaf harvest on annual’s. With the basil I grow, as soon as it goes to blossom I prune it back to previous node to encourage more growth. Would this encourage more growth of other annuals for medicinal use and extend potential medicinal harvest?

Is your mullein from the wild, or is it a cultivar? The mullein that grows wild here in Michigan doesn’t bloom as profusely as yours, and the flowers smaller. Does the wild mullein in the Pacific Northwest look different? Perhaps a different variety? Or does it just look different because it has less competition from other plants? I gather mine from wild plants that grow in my hedgerows. I’m rather suspicious of cultivars, because sometimes the medicinal properties of those plants have been bred out of them in favor of more ornamental flowers, or such as in the case of food plants, the ability to withstand shipping. If they look like that just by being grown in a garden, I’m going to save seeds from my wild plants and plant them in my garden!
