Thank you for your positivity. I've bought half a dozen direct to consumer bikes and only once did I have any issues like what you are talking about. There are many sub-one thousand gravel bikes in the market today. It is important to read the reviews keeping in mind the importance of customer service beyond the sale. Good luck with your bike.
I got the X. I had scheduled my vacation time around enjoying the new bike. It came late, and it came broken; no biking vacation. I am sure the guys at Poseidon did not like dealing with me, but it’s a nice bike at a good price and the guys at Poseidon are fair and honest. If the Redwood is as good as the X , I am sure it is worth the money.
It's clear where Poseidon saves money is by not having the bike assembled as much as most bikes you get out of the box. Their bikes are likely packaged overseas and they just ship you the bike without ever opening the box. I ordered a Norton and it was way more disassembled than any other bike I have ever gotten for my RU-vid channel or otherwise. Thankfully I have a full shop in my basement and a lot of bike shop and industry experience. But I would not suggest someone who isn't a current or former bike mechanic assemble one of these. So you might save money ordering consumer direct, but you certainly will have to pay more to get the bike properly together and safely working, which is extremely important. Poseidon isn't on my list for consumer-direct bikes. You can have a much better experience using State or Canyon, to be honest. The Norton assembly and reviews are on my channel if you are interested in more info.
Thank you so much for sharing your insights! Maybe my next bike will be one of the brands you’ve suggested. Since this video, my garage has been transformed into a bike shop and I’ve learned a lot about working on bikes. I’m by no means an expert but I’ve come along way since I posted this video. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
Definitely size down if you're on the bubble. I bought a medium X a couple of years ago and wish I would've gotten a small. You can always raise your seat and stack. It only goes down so far though.
Whenever I get around to purchasing a gravel bike, a Poseidon Redwood is definitely on my list. For the money, it's a pretty good spec. From other comments and videos I have watched regarding the Redwood, the saddle is less than desirable. Plus, the mechanical brake calipers aren't the best, but are adequate.
I just got mine. seems like a good starter platform, i did already replace the saddle to a fizik argo x5 for the 160mm sizing. brakes aren’t the best but I enjoy aftermarket parts so this is gonna be fun.
This is awesome I’ve spent my whole life on mountain bikes as well and am now considering this to get into bikepacking it seems perfect I’ve been looking at the flatbar though
Glad I found this video and thanks for sharing it. They’re have a summer sale so I just ordered a Redwood for $699. I’m shorter with a short inseam, right around your size, and went with the XS but started worrying it might be too short from seat to cockpit. This video put me a little at ease with size selection.
Thanks for the video! I just ordered a Redwood after over a year of contemplating it. Looking forward to putting it through some real tests! Subscribed.
Thanks for your feedback. That’s sad to hear about the quality control issues. Hopefully they can get it sorted out. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I've owned my Redwood since late 2020. I always recommend having a pro at a bike shop perform the assembly and assist with any adjustments, It's well worth the cost. With that said, over the past few years I've had a great time learning how to perform maintenance on my own as well as dialing in the bike with upgrades. I'm currently rolling on a mullet setup with 27.5" rear and 29" front. Even though the bike can accommodate 2.6" wide tires, 2.3" seems to be the sweet spot. Of the tires I've used, so far Teravail Ehline, Light & Supple compound with a tubeless setup offers the best all around experience.
I bought the redwood about 2 years ago. Talked to the guy there, and he recommended a large for me. I am 5'10" with a 30" inseam and about 240 pounds. In retrospect, I wished I had gotten a medium. Other than that, it is a rowdy GB.
🎉CONGRATS🎉 on the new bike. I’ve had mine for two years now & love it. I’ve took it from Pittsburgh to DC on bikepacking trip & had not one issue. The only thing I change when I first got it is seat (WTB Volt) & pedals (Crank Brothers eggbeaters). LOVE the new 🖤 black on black. Wish I had that color.
How do you like your bike so far? Also, how do you like the WTB Volt saddle? I was thinking about buying one. I would also like to ride the whole GAP trail one of these days. I am originally from Somerset County PA, which part of the GAP goes through. I live in Connecticut now but whenever I go home for a visit, I ride the section between Ohiopyle and Confluence.
@@apollovizsla the bike is AWESOME. The seat is GREAT. I have it on my fat bike & MTB. As for the Redwood. I’ve change the bars to Richie Adventure Max V2, bar tape Wolftooth 2.5, tires Vittoria Mazcal, front chainring Wolftooth 38 tooth & upgraded the brake cables. Did all this after 2 season with the bike. The Mazcal tires roll really good on pavement when air up pretty good.
Thanks Kaitlyn. We’ve done a few trips and the bike has been fantastic. I shot video along the way when we rode the GAP trail, but I haven’t got around to posting the video yet. Thanks again for watching and commenting!
Fortunately the assembly of my Redwood went perfectly. No issues other than having to adjust the front brake pads, they were rubbing on one side of the disc. Easy fix. Be sure an watch the assembly video and it will go smoothly. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xcivWk1a7oE.html
I also purchased a Redwood recently. I love the bike but no matter what I did (and I have worked with bikes for a long time), I had to shim out the rear rotor. Sort of annoying to resort to shims. I don’t know what they (or I) did, but regardless of caliper frame adjustment, piston adjustment, cable adjustment, the inner pad always rubbed without shims.
@@MrSatchelpack I used the “TRP 1mm 6-bolt shim”. They come in 1mm and .5 mm. You can also use simple washers, just get ones with the right inner and outer diameter to fit nicely on the hub surface.
Great question. Sorry for the delay. My experience is it’s great for roads however I would suggest switching out the tires if you’re going to do a lot of road riding. The stock tires are quite aggressive and more suited for dirt and gravel.
