My mom had a small Timex. She lost it in the parking lot on our last day of the season. The next ski season, after we had skied all day and were packed up and ready to leave, my mom suggested we go look around where we were parked when she lost the watch. This was a gravel lot, at Vernon Valley Great Gorge Ski Resort in the winter and the infamous Action Park in the summer. (Just look up Action Park) We found the watch. Half buried in gravel, ice and water. And it was still working. My mom wrote the company with the story but never heard back.

I have been collecting watches since the 70s, during the early 80s I started taking my watches to a local shop run by a Swiss guy named Lucas. He was trained and built watches for a couple of the big Swiss brands Rolex being the one he started at as a young man and worked for them for like 20 years. He eventually immigrated to the US worked for a local clock maker and then opened his own repair shop. As time went by we became very good friends and he started teaching me how to do the basics and later some of the more complicated stuff. Every time I would bring in one of my new higher end watches for him to look at, he would make a face at me and point to his vintage Timex on his wrist and say to me "why do you waste so much money when all you need is this to tell time!" To this day every time I buy any watch over 100 bucks never mind a real expensive one, All I can see in my mind is his face and hear him in that accent telling me buy a dam Timex! LOL When he retired he went back to the old country but before he closed up for good he gave me a bunch of tools and an old Timex that I still have today and cherish. It still tells time like it was new. I wish I could say that for a lot of my high end watches that I spent 1000s on in servicing fees.

While there's nothing wrong with buying luxury watches...I think the moral of the story is that it's not always the price you pay that makes a watch priceless, it's the memories and sentimental value that you associate with it.

@@dietznutz1 a good watch is a difficult thing to define. Frankly, if it tells the time adequately and is reliable enough, it’s pretty hard to say that timepiece is not “good”. Is a Rolex or omega or longings any better watch than a $20 Casio or $40 Timex? If you’re only using it to tell the time, you could argue the quartz movements makes the affordable watches frankly better tools. Of course, there are reasons people pay for more expensive watches, but that is not to say that they need to in order to get a “good” watch. To be honest, if someone says their watch is flawless, then I’d say its a good watch no matter what the price.

Disagree!! Their watches are JUNK and Timex won't stand behind their product when it fails Even under their short one year warranty you still HAVE TO PAY A FEE to get it repaired by them. And...If your watch was a gift...and breaks you are in big trouble! No receipt....No warranty!! AND....after the one year you must pay $30 plus tax...plus shipping both ways to get even a $40 watch repaired.....even though there is manufacturing error that caused the problem. There are plenty of other watch companies out there who make a much better product and have much better customer service!

I got my first watch for my 10th birthday. It was a Timex. From then on, I never bought anything but Timex. When Casio came out with their super nerdy calculator watches, I thought they looked ridiculous. When the G-Shock line started coming out, I thought they looked like kid’s watches. Eventually, my dad gave me his Omega Speedmaster Professional that he bought new in 1967 before I was even a thought. That was my first taste of watches other than Timex, and my first taste of boutique watches. Still, I’ve had good experiences with Timex and have never been disappointed by any of their products that I’ve bought…well, the watches, I mean. Their watch bracelets can be pretty cheap, but the watches themselves have served me well.

There has been a lot of hype on the youtubes lately about vintage timex watches. I own a 1965 self wind timex and can attest to it being very pretty and totally awful at keeping time. The movement is junk. It might be durable but so is a cinder block. What do you call a nice looking watch with junk movement? A fashion watch. This is the 60s version of an MVMT. Timex also spent a great deal of money advertising its watches on TV and sponsoring events like the Ironman. Sound familiar?

Thanks for mentioning the lack of models for women. I like watches and I always wanted to have a "good" one. In general, the offer for women are the "girly" ones with Swarovski crystals, rose gold or silver and gold. I like elegant watches, but I'm on the "simple" side. I've been searching a lot for my "ideal" watch and I'm sure I want an automatic, but it needs to have a see-through backcase. Most of the automatic watches for women I've seen don't have that and if they have, they're way above my budget. I think I will buy an Orient. First, because I know of Orient since my childhood. Second, tradition. Third, I think they took over what Seiko left behind. Fourth, I want a classic look, but not "girly" look. You're quite the entertainer. I just discovered your videos.

You should check you’re Timex history. Timex has NOT been around for 167 years. The name Timex didn’t exist until the 1940’s. Timex’s parent company, Waterbury, has been around since 1854 but that’s not the same as Timex.

I love men’s watches. 40mm face! I love the big look on my wrist it makes my arm look smaller and more dainty and yet it’s cool! Like a girl driving a truck or a jeep. I just ordered my first Timex Waterbury Roman numeral leather strap quarts watch and an extra stainless steel chain link strap to switch out for different occasions! I can’t wait to receive it! I’ve loved my Casio baby g digital watch that I use for work (health care, need to read the minutes quickly). My Timex is for my nice outfits outside of work

I think you have it wrong on my arm sits a 1962 marlin 21 jewel timex , Rocky Marciano made a commercial about the watch he was long gone before 1969 I believe they were making commercials in the 50s early 60s

Timex pieces aren't for me. Too cheesy and chintzy for my liking. I do have respect for the Waterbury Clock Co. however, as there is actually some substance there.

I was born in 67 and when I was 5 yrs old my Grandad taught me to tell the time and he bought me my first ever watch. It was a Timex Sprite. It probably cost under £5 in 1972. Today, those watches are marketed as a vintage military watch and nice ones regularly fetch £100. As a boy I was fascinated with that watch and still had it laying around in a draw until my early 20s. I really don't know what happened to that watch but I so wish I'd looked after it and kept my first ever watch. Im 56 now and could easily buy another one and have considered it many times but it just wouldn't be mine. I cherish the memories of that little Timex which started my fascination with watches which endures today. As a teen I lived through the digital age and owned watches with alarms, dual time, chronographs etc then later in life moved onto the solar watches from Citizen and the Kinetics from Seiko and today im now back into mechanical movements, back where I started in 1972. Great video, it really triggered a lot of memories for me. Thank you.

I wish you wouldn't try and be a stand up comedian and not shout so loud. Please just tell the facts and get to the point faster. I like timex but you are too loud and very annoying.

I remember watching Timex spokesman, John Cameron Swayze saying "Timex, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin' " in the early '60s. They had a series of TV commercials where they would put a timex through different tests like shooting an arrow through a window with a Timex attaached.

My first watch was a Timex windup. I gift watches to high school and college grads. I have one remaining Ironman - new - beater watch and one remaining Skagen - new- dress watch. I have bought used Timex quartz and used Ironman units. When shtf, I have watches for a group setting to be used in conjunction with low end communication devices.

Just to make it clear. Norwegian haven’t got any «french/spanish» pronounciations normally. Joakim is like Jory. More like Yo a Kim. Just read it like «american». Same with Olsen. No Olsah, just Ol senn. I know this was poorly described, but no Spanish/french sounds 😊😊 Great vid 👍👍

Joakim Lehmkuhl -- Although you gave it a nice hispanic flair with "Wa-Keem", I suspect this Norwegian would have preferred something like "Yo-Kem" :-)

the classic design is very great though, sometimes i wonder why they dont make watches with better movements. some people will buy it if they keep the classic designs and good quality

My brother had a Timex redwing Waterbury Chronograph 45mm, about 5 years ago. It was a nice watch, but he sold it after 3-4 months, because he didn’t feel it it. My friend still has a expedition field watch, but the crown broke a few years ago. I still have a plan to buy a timex q, but I can’t find the gold plated black bezel model anywhere.

With title like "Watch This BEFORE You Buy A Timex!", I thought this is about things one needs to be aware of before one BUYS a Timex. Build quality, maintenance issues, any caveats much more important for watch ownership than company and product history. I hope more people stop using misleading titles like this, or at least notify others of it in the comment section.

My parents were watchmakers when Timex mechanical watches appeared in great numbers in the 70s it was absolutely junk. No jewelled movements stamped movements . Poorly manufactured

My first watch was a Timex when I started at the 'big school' in the 60s. Still remember my pride as I looked at it, and also the Ad campaign of the time with the famous Jingle ~ ' Ring the bells with Xmas Tidings, Ticker ticker Timex, Tra La La "

As an owner of multiple Times watches, they are NOT durable. Common failures are the Indiglo, day/date wheels and band pins. Their leather straps are amazingly good tho' !

It is easier to get Casios (very good watches) in my country, but I always have a thing for Timex. Timex is different and innovative, brings out the experimenter in me. Used to own an Intelligent quartz world time, big a*s command shock, and a snoopy marlin. 😍

I like how he jumped from 1970 to 1986 trying to show that Timex had some master plan to deal with the Quartz crisis. Thats where this post lost all credibility.

For me the best feature on a Timex watch is the Indiglo dial but the old slogan “Takes a licked and keeps on ticking” is just another advertising lie. I’ve purchased 4 Timex watches over the last decade but the only one still ticking is the one I purchased last year. I used to call Timex watches inexpensive but now I’ll admit that they are cheap. I love my Timex Expiration watch but once it inevitably dies another Timex death, I will not be repurchasing another Timex.
