going on my cruise in March, and struggling with how I should purchase the internet pack, then found this video. really appreciate your good tips. thought I should go with 2 devices, but now decided 1 is enough. instantly save $120. thank you for making this great video, brother! god bless you!
🤣🤣🤣 Yeah it’s pretty pricey, it would be nice to have the basic internet included then if you wanted to have the capability to stream that could be an upgrade.
@@ryanandkala considering they have to mount a bunch of satellite antennas on the ship to provide any sort decent connection speed for the HUGE number of people on the ship, it is no wonder they don't offer it for free. Do you get internet to your house for free? If you have ever had to use an older satellite feed for internet at home, just ten or fifteen years ago pure dish internet was pathetically slow when you weren't even sharing it with anyone! And that was for a house that was sitting still. The fact that they can offer any kind of internet when more than fifty miles from land is actually pretty amazing.
@@ryanandkala Hey, in computer terms, I am clearly a dinosaur. I have owned, and used ( very little ) a 300 baud modem. First serious BBS use was on a 1200 Bit Per Second modem, which I then upgraded to 2400 and then ( Man, I was just SCREAMING, back in the day ) a specialty 5600 bps modem that was only good on our local BBS and a few others. After that on to 14.4 kbs , 28.8 and finally 56K modems. I remember subscribing to the first cable modems available in our rural area, and the company apologizing because they couldn't do better than 1Gbs. ( Back then Comcast had a hard time hitting 500kbs!) So, hitting those kinds of speeds while at sea is actually a pretty good achievement. But since we used to pay $20 a month for those speeds, $20 a day does seem kind of steep. Of course, I think gas was like $.75 a gallon back then, you gotta take THAT into consideration, too.
This was very helpful, thanks you! I learned about these issues after boarding my first cruise on NCL last year and I did not want to be caught out again!
Just cruised with Anthem of the Seas. The free RC mini-app was great for browsing ship activities, etc, and building/checking a nice personal RC activity calendar. The messaging aspect of it is a good idea that currently sucks because both people need to have the app up at the same time for it to work, so no background loading or signaling, as well as the free app Wi-Fi kicking you off often, sort of as they say here. We did also buy two full expensive Wi-Fi packages for our family of four and the switching off between users worked ok, though again the system knocks you out often too. Would be nice if they could construct a two tier pay system with a lower inexpensive level working for regular text messaging and text emails and then the higher Voom package for those who need or want to stream video.
Thank you so much for sharing!! I understand completely with the messaging aspect we had a similar experience. I’m hoping once they all get Starlink it’ll be a lot easier. I may be misunderstanding but they already do have a two tiered system, Surf and Surf + Stream package for exactly what you described however I think I’m missing something as you stated you bought the “Full” Wifi package. Thank you for watching!! 🍻😎☀️
@@ryanandkala You’re right and I misspoke. I didn’t consider the lower level because it wasn’t that much cheaper when it probably should be. Thanks for the video. Good information.
We could share, but we don't want to. We're not always together on the ship. We can text each other in a way without learning something new. Not to mention, one of us is notorious for not checking messages. When bad comes to worse, they get an internet call.
Hi there. If l purchase 2 devices under my name, does it mean that both me and my couple can go on internet simultaneously? I just found out it is much cheaper to subscribe 2 devices under 1 person than subscribing 1 device per person. So helpful, thank you.
Yes that's correct! It's way better to do the two devices under 1 person. You're given a login that will allow 2 devices to be connected at the same time. ☀️😎🍻
We used to be the same!! We wanted to disconnect 100% But then we got our dog and we like to see how she’s doing at daycare and stuff like that, plus now we have RU-vid and instagram comments to reply to haha!! 🤣
Very informative! Quick question…can you receive incoming phone calls while at sea? not video chat but an actual phone call. It’ll be my bday & would like to know who was thinking of me on my special day lol
That’s so exciting a birthday cruise!! This is a Great question! If you’re not on the Wifi you probably still could as they work with cellular towers but you would pay an insane amount of money not having your phone in airplane mode. Even if you don’t answer the call all the data and messages/emails you receive would cost you. If you’re on the Wifi you’d be able to receive Wifi calls so maybe you could update your status or something notifying people that’s the best method to contact you.
Hi, this is very helpful, thank you, i do have a question and hope you van help me. we are two persons on the trip, and we both need to be on internet at the same time, for work reasons, what package should i buy. (1 person 2 devoces) or the two persons 1 device each??? thanks for your help.
Good question!! You should buy one person and two devices because it ends up being cheaper than individually buying one device each! Hope this helped! 😊
Can you share internet packages with people on separate reservations? We are going on a cruise with some friends and we are hoping to share internet with them!
You’re welcome!! I don’t know all the ships off-hand but I don’t think Serenade has it just yet. It doesn’t mean the internet is useless but it could help with your decision depending on what you want to use it for, hope that helps! Thanks for watching!! 😎☀️🍻
@@ryanandkala So, I came across a FB post where someone suggested using a WiFi Extender/Repeater device to share Internet connection in the room. I can’t understand that device will connect to the ship WiFi and login. Just wondering if you or any of your viewers heard of it or tried it successfully? Thanks.
Ìf you are on Royal Carribean, you can get a 1 device package if you are willing to switch back and forth between your phone and computer. It's usually best price to buy before you set sail.
You’re correct! More and more ships are getting starlink, Check out the Royal Caribbean blog article in the description for more info! Thanks for watching!! 🍻😎☀️
Yep!! You can buy a 24 hour pass I think it’s like $20-25 dollars per day a not cheap. Although, some loyalty levels get discounts on wifi, and even free days of wifi, so check into it 😀
Hi, Im going to b a first time cruiser!! So are you saying under my name, I can purchase one device & my boyfriend can boot me off with the same log in? Or are you saying that under my name I should purchase two devices?
Hey! That's so exciting your first cruise! You can share 1 login, it will do exactly that, just boot you off if you login on another device. You only need the two devices if you would like to both use the wifi at the same time. 😎☀️🍻
Hello! Thanks for this informative video! I have a holiday cruise this year with RC and would like to activate 2 devices for the wifi package, but the process is confusing via the website. It can choose who out of my guests for the wifi?? If I choose only one person for the 2 devices, my family would have to log in to that guest name selected to utilize the wifi?
You'll have a login info so whoever you share that login information with can access your wifi. So 1 login will allow 2 devices to be connected at the same time. When purchasing the package the person who you assign the 2 devices will be the one who creates the login on the first day of the cruise. I hope that clears it up for you. ☀️🍻😎
@@abigails5841 Yes exactly, the Royal App actually has a free messaging feature on it. It's pretty spotty you physically have to check your messages and it won't give you notifications but it gets the job done when you want to leave a message
So if I'm going on cruise with my family of 4, and I purchase 1 internet package for 4 devices, will all 4 of us be able to use the wifi at the same time?
@@ryanandkala okay perfect !!! i will be going there at the end of this month for 5 days and the package price was 91$😬 i was going to use it for reels and watching youtube before bed, hope it will be worth it !!! obs: i appreciate your attention !! thanks 🙏
Is there a way to message with others on the ship without at WiFi package?? On our Disney cruise WhatsApp worked without a WiFi package. I am not sure if WhatsApp worked for calls on the ship
Royal Caribbean has a messaging feature within the Royal app that you can use for free. It's a bit weird sometimes you don't get the notifications. I would suggest manually loading the page to refresh to see if theres any messages as opposed to waiting for a notification. Hope that helps!
Excelente video, felicidades!! Gracias.
Thank you so much! ♥️ Yes if you have a package with 2 devices you can give the login to anyone, you're given a login and you can only have 2 active devices at a time but youre free to share it 😎🍻☀️
thanks so much for all the tips! just wondering, do you know if i were to purchase the voom + soda package - do i have to buy two packages (1 for me and 1 for my boyfriend?) we are staying in the same stateroom
If I’m understanding your question properly, you only both need to get a drink package when it’s the alcoholic one. For example on our last cruise I had the refreshment package and Kala didn’t have anything. So you should be able to just buy 1 Voom + Soda, then you could just share the voom device between the two of you! 🍻😎☀️
@@ryanandkala awesome!!!!!! that's sooo good to know! we also have a furry DAUGhter and want to keep in touch. i had only ever heard of having to get some sort of drink package when getting the booze one, so thanks so much for the clarification! going to binge watch all your cruise vlogs now.. just subscribed this morning! boarding freedom next friday! i'm so excited!
We love seeing all the snapchats and instagram stories of our dog from the daycare provider, we often feel guilty for being away but knowing she’s having fun all day makes it better haha 😂 I’m glad we could help thanks so much for following along and I hope you enjoy the videos!! 🍻😎☀️
@@ryanandkala It's our first royal cruise, and my boyfriend's first cruise ever! I have only ever been on the DCL Magic so this is going to be completely different. So glad to hear that you guys loved it! I'll let you know how we liked it
Hiii I am going to be doing the Caribbean cruise rhapsody for 7 days in December, I need the internet to do my school work, do you know if this cruise ship has good internet? Thank you so much!!
That's so exciting! The Rhapsody has Starlink so you shouldn't have any problems. It's not going to be super fast or anything but probably good enough for school work. 😎☀️🍻
@@ryanandkalathanks so much for letting me know, do you think it’s enough to take a test I check the itinerary and that day it will be a cruising day off the coast of Bonaire. I just need two hours, but I am so worried I will not be able to connect at all, I have all day anytime to do it that day. 😅
@@shirleygarcia2392You're welcome! if you're taking a test and can't be disconnected at all through the test, that's pretty risky. The internet cuts out all the time. I'd also say any video/zoom calls would be unreliable.
I’m going on a cruise in a week. I ordered the internet package. I have kids back home, so am I able to FaceTime and message through text messages or is it a certain app I have to use?
HI Ryan and Kala. I just watched your VOOM WIFI Package video. Much info thank you and I happen to be going on the exact same ship (an old one) that you were on ‘’The Explorer’’ on April 23. I run 4 ZOOM MEETINGS per week and I am doing the TRANSATLANTIC CRUISE. First of all, I can’t find where to purchase the package on the APP and after having watched your video, I am wondering whether this will work or how well, specially on Transatlantic. Please advise and thank you 🇨🇦
Hey!! You may have to go on the cruise planner online to pre-purchase, I think once you're on the ship you may be able to buy through the app. I don't anticipate you're going to be too happy with the speed you're getting on board unless they've installed Starlink on the ship. I did a brief search and couldn't find any information saying they have. Based on my experience I would be surprised if you were able to hold a zoom meeting on the Explorer sadly. You'll have to test and see where you get the best speed prior to your calls, I think it was best for me in the Solarium. Hope that helps and thanks for watching, have a wonderful cruise!! 🍻😎☀️🇨🇦❤
@@ryanandkala Thanks for your information. Another question is, do you know if I can buy one day only to try it out ? I don’t want to buy a package if it doesn’t work Thanks
Just booked Canada in October and it appears they only offer one plan now.........VOOM Surf & Stream for $17.99/day (pre-cruise purchase). Just checked the website and this plan was all that comes up now.
Oh wow Canada in October is absolutely stunning. The colors are just breathtaking! Ya we also noticed there’s only 1 option on our other cruise too! It’s always evolving it seems!
When you try to access the wifi, it'll prompt you to sign in or create an account. You just simply enter in some details and create your account, once that's done it'll recognize you purchased the wifi and you can sign in 😎🍻☀️
Can someone buy one internet package and other people can just use it? Or could someone also buy it for one person and say they have three devices and let the other two people use the login for the other devices?
As long as you have the login info anyone can use it, so whether you have 1 or 3 devices they will use your login to access the wifi you purchased!! Hope that answers your question ☀️🍻😎
The app effective 01-Jan-23 is free with instant messaging!! You can also use it just generally to find out what’s going on at that time. So to answer your question, yes you can!☀️🍻😎
I think you’ll be okay! I saw this blog post saying that the Odyssey has received the Starlink upgrade. If you scroll down someone has posted a speed test which should be enough for you to live stream. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching 😎🍻☀️. www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/boards/index.php?/topic/38558-starlink-is-live-on-odyssey-of-the-seas/
@@E1234 Yes I think you’re good! It looks like Freedom of the Seas was upgraded with Starlink. Here’s a reference and a little more detail for you www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2022/06/28/i-tried-elon-musks-starlink-internet-royal-caribbean-cruise-ship
We pulled up our current cruise and saw the same thing… so we checked the website and it seems they maybe phased out the wifi and replaced it with surf and stream only.
That’s a great question we haven’t tried that!! If anyone in the channel knows- can you send us some info? We can also try when we get on board explorer on Saturday!
Booked on Harmony and hopefully I can connect. Shit was $255 for my sister and I for an 8 day, and have a 14 day and 7 day booked and plan on keeping my internet access, just want to stream my RU-vid shows is all and whatervers with the $$$.
Ya the Wifi can really add up, in terms of connectivity you should be fine, Harmony of the Seas has Starlink. If you're trying to find avoid having to purchase it, maybe downloading shows ahead of time or just splitting one device with your sister could help. Thanks for watching!! 😎🍻☀️
You just use the app to create an account and when you enter your room number and last name, it'll know you have the package and prompt you to make a password!
It was so bad! I think it was the worst for us as well and we’ve done 8 Royal cruises. Hopefully they stay on track to get all the ships updated. Thanks for sharing and for watching!! 🍻😎☀️
Hm great question, my initial thinking is no but it would depend on your device. You need to use a browser in order to sign into the Wifi. If you're able to do that, I don't see why it wouldn't work. 🍻😎☀️
Oh 100% I believe it should be included, but I get it, it’s expensive to run the starlink and they need to make $ But it’s getting crazy how much cruising is costing these days.
