In this video I install the 12 valve Cummins in my Squarebody Chevy. I also install the transmission, fuel system, brakes, and exhaust. My good friend Monty helped me out with the exhaust!! So stoked on how this truck is turning out.
There is a big plot twist coming soon for this build. Stay tuned for the next video that will be coming out hopefully within 3 weeks. A lot of work ahead
These dually trucks seem to continue to grow in popularity. I ran across a 89 V3500 4 door 4x4 dually flatbed with a tilt.Getting it squared away slowly but surely.
Found your channel not to long ago. Been catching up on all your vids. Great content. Its very much appreciated. I finally found a 12v to swap in to my 87 CUCV M1008. Can't wait to tear into it.
I got my cummins swap done about 3 months ago just to update you. 1989 R2500 suburban running a 1997 12 Valve with a 215 pump. Got 4k rpm governer springs with an AFC mod and fuel plate pushed back all the way. Got a set of Xotic head studs. Plan on upgrading the injectors soon. I'm currently running two computers lol cuz the automatic computer wasn't available for the truck at the moment it seemed they all disappeared when I needed one. I'm running a built 48RE transmission with a billet torque converter. Transmission was a tight fit and the 2wd auto tunnel does not have to be changed to run the automatic, but it does need beat up a little bit for clearance. The computer that runs the grid heater, tach, and alternator is from the 1997 donor truck, and the other computer is from a donor 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee to shift the transmission. When the computer comes available maybe someday I will have to change the governor pressure solenoid in the transmission because the resistance is different from 1996-1999 to 2000+. Other than that the truck drives great and I followed your videos for cutting the frame for the A/C compressor and harmonic balancer. I used a dodge manifold and crimped hoses to the Chevy manifold and running the chevy A/C condenser. Condenser was moved to in front of the raditaor support because I put the intercooler where the condenser used to be. Overall the truck drives amazing and I have far more power and efficiency over the 454 tbi and turbo 400 that was originally in the truck. Kind of miss the 454 honestly but the power and efficiency was far more worth it than the feeling of driving the 454.
Very nice project. Thank you for showing the details like trimming the cross member. Can you tell me how far below the cross member the oil pan sits I am thinking about a cummings swap in a half ton 2 wheel drive. I would plate the frame for strength. Thank you for any help you can be.
Just noticed you are making more content. I watched your video a year ago, giving a briefing on square body 12 valve swaps. The one with the two-tone blue and white c30. I'm considering the swap on my square 89 R3500 2wd shorty (cab and chassis) Trying to be patient and cut cost as much as possible by shopping smart.
Couple quick questions for you. I'm doing several Square body swaps & a few using the stock frames. Have you ever pushed the firewall back a few inches to gain room to run the mechanical fan ? I have 4 commonrails & wondering the best direction & fan/shroud to use? Chevy diesel or bbc radiator or Dodge? What intercooler do you like best & how's the best way to keep the factory AC without any issues? Do you notch the frame? The Freightliner bracket won't help me since I have a 2nd ac pump as a belt driven air compressor for air suspension. All mine are 4wd. Thanks Sam!
Awesome build and great content.. you really inspire me to do this swap on my 1980 k30 crew cab silverado camper special. Its the only squarebody i ever seen with a factory tachometer. Ive owned over 20 squarebody's in my life.and never seen a tach in the dash cluster before. Also what does a swap like this cost roughly? Thanks
I'm currently rebuilding my 12 valve and was thinking of throwing it into my 1979 GMC 1 ton dump truck. But I want to convert it to 4x4, so that's a whole other issue. Got a replacement cab for the one currently rusted beyond repair, so even more work there as well. Don't know how long it's going to take, but it keeps me busy.
A little bit at a time goes along way. Back in February I didn’t think this truck was ever going to get done and then all the sudden I was driving it in June
@@samstrucks Yeah, my biggest problem is I don't have a covered garage to work in. Only a walk-in shop which I can barely get the engine in and out of.
Sorry! I’m late! I tried to watch yesterday but didn’t have good internet! I was getting a little disappointed until the end, you came through with a Bad Ricky!!!!
Been thinking about putting a suburban body on my 1st gen cummins dually d350. I want to 4x4 swap it with 2nd gen or 3rd gen dodge front and rear dually axles.
I wanna get one in my 04 long bed tundra. it has 414k on it now and i wanna do the swap in a couple of years just not sure what to do for it. dunno if i gotta swap the transmission, get new driveline axles etc. wanna do a 4bt but no clue where to even start
I am going to start building my Chevy c3500 91 duelley ai had a 97 Freightliner ups truck 5.9 Cummins whis a Alison transmission I hope I don't have problems to build it
very good video sir, I want to swap a 5.9 6bt, for a 1973 Dodge D200 adventure, do you think it's worth it, and do I have to modify the brakes, suspension? Do you recommend me? greetings
In my opinion you will be totally fine swapping it straight in. Think about it, would you upgrade the brakes if you were pulling a trailer all the time? No. An extra 200 pounds of engine in the front isn’t enough in my opinion to have to completely redo the brakes
@@samstrucks Thank you for your response, and what transmission do you recommend, the g56, nv4500 or nv 5600, I subscribe to your channel, you have very good videos, congratulations
Hey man I am putting a 12v Cummins and a NV4500 transmission in my 1987 gmc Sierra classic R3500 and it is a auto right now I was wondering if I have to cut out the whole transmission tunnel and put a new one in or if I will clear it
We did our swap with a getrag 5 speed and our speedo cable turns the opposite direction. Can’t seem to find any thing to reverse the direction. What did you end up doing for yours? TIY
@Sam’s Trucks I'm just not a fan of heavy duty 2wd trucks. If I needed one I would buy a new one bc those would be a long range towing vehicle. I would have swapped a military or k30
